OK I am a little confused. Here it states clearly that it is not possible to unlink POL IDS from SE accounts:

Q: Is it possible to unlink my PlayOnline account from my Square Enix account?
A: Once the PlayOnline ID is linked to the SQUARE ENIX account, the link cannot be reversed.

However that link leads to a page that gives you an error.
After looking a bit more into it, I came across this:

If you wish to unlink your PlayOnline ID from a Square Enix account, please click on "Additional Assistance" below to contact the SQUARE ENIX Support Center prior to starting the transfer process. It is possible for your account to be unlinked, which would allow for you to choose a new Square Enix account to transfer to.

If you have already completed the transfer process and wish to transfer to a different Square Enix account, the procedure may take several days to complete. Please click on "Additional Assistance" below to contact the SQUARE ENIX Support Center for additional details.

So which is it? Is there a way to unlink accounts, or is it impossible?

its possible but they don't want to make it easy because they don't want just anyone to do it

How about you contact the support center directly anyway? Faster than hoping a response from a Support Rep (community Rep doesn't handle that stuff).

The number to call if you're in the US is 1-858-790-7529. They're open weekdays 9-5 in Pacific time, I believe.

You can unlink them, but you have to call them and hope to get the right rep. I called once and was hung up on by an extremely angry rep who just kept repeating "No, you can't do that.." over me while I tried to reason with him.

I called back the next day, and got a rep who was like "sure, man, no problem.".

They apparently don't monitor calls at the SE support center.
