View Full Version : 99 Too Soon?

While I don't believe there's been an official release date on when the real servers will receive the level 99 cap increase update (correct me if I'm wrong), it is certainly drawing near. I'm curious though, how many of you all are welcoming it so soon?
Personally, I feel like it's too soon. 95 increase was not that long ago, and I know there is the new Voidwatch tier to be added alongside it (and the eventual new 'content' like Dungeon Crawling), but to me it feels almost rushed upon us.
Perhaps I'm in denial since I'm not currently partaking in Voidwatch as it comes out (I plan and hope to begin in the near future if I can help it), but it is just my thought on it. Please, I am interested to know if anyone else agrees or disagrees?

They are rushing it, they want to get it out of the way. level 99 should have happened ages ago so they could then focus on job balance, new areas and so on. Everyone can fully level them up and skill up and have done with it for the real new endgame.

No such thing as too soon. Level 99 is not going to be the end of new stuff. In fact, as SE has said, the level cap update is only a small part of the job related updates planned.

The sooner we get to 99, the sooner we can get out of this Midgame phase and down to business. The introduction of 99 means the introduction of real, solid Endgame for the first time since the initial cap increase to 80. Abyssea, Walk of Echoes, and Voidwatch parts 1 and 2 were hopefully just things to keep us busy while they worked on 99 content (The Last Stand, etc), so I'm interested in seeing what they've come up with.

GG got it right.
I don't care about what number my level is at, it hasn't mattered since 80 came out. I just want endgame that draws my attention for more than a couple weeks. A reason to log in would be great.

once 99 comes out I can start working on epeening geartsets. doesnt really makes sense to get the absolute best gear for X situation in a mid level. Waiting especially to see if the perfect sky augments will stay top notch @99.

True, but I myself feel like the increase to 99 should wait until further along on the planned updates. But again it's just my own feeling, and I am pleased people are sharing how they feel on the matter! :)

In reality it would have been a whole lot better if they didn't wait several years to move the cap past 75 (and then they could have spaced things out more evenly and we probably wouldn't be having discussions like this).
Not soon enough originally level 99 was going to be last December.

Couldn't agree more. We were at 90 for way too long. The sooner we finish this awkward middle ground of leveling the better.

Yeah, that's pretty accurate. I've only been playing about a year now so, for me it feels like "aaaaaah too much at once" but I do realize for you vets it's an overdue paycheck, and it seems most who have responded are those who have been playing far longer than I. :p

The Sooner we hit 99 the sooner true endgame content can follow.
I'm happy with this.

Only problem is that their not balancing things out before moving up again. Increasing level caps cuts both ways, on one hand it allows you room to balance out the game, something that was over/under powered at 90/95 might not be at 99. On the other if its moved too fast then you end up stuck in a situation where content is made irrelevant too fast.

VW was generally irrelevant in the first place.
You could use sets that don't include any piece from VW and no one would be the wiser.

Basically rather we move slow or fast, Armor will be outdated with a Level cap increase.
In my eyes, the sooner we hit 99, The sooner/more than can focus on Balancing everything and fine-tuning, and less on getting to 99.
Also the sooner i have to stop worrying about gear becoming outdated. I know they'll release better armor in the future, But right now its pretty much "Yah, This dagger looks nice, but in 5 levels it'll be crap"... See: Triplus Dagger, Twilight Knife, Auric Dagger, so forth
I think it'll work out

Considering it took them around 7 years to move past the 75 cap (which they said they'd never do btw) I say it's about damn time. Considering how much the jobs became unbalanced after the level rose, I would have rather they capped the levels at 99 sooner, not because of content or endgame but simply because balance has become such an issue it's almost pointless to try balancing the jobs if everything becomes unbalanced again the next update.

I'm sorta disappoint in the way level cap increase was released to begin with. The level raise is to justify battle content but not all of us have interest in that sort of thing.

What is there to this game other than Levelling and Battle Content?

What is there to this game other than Levelling and Battle Content? It's a FF game so story. Other MMOs have an active PvP community and PvP oriented events.

I look forward to the level 99 cap coming soon. It will make things feel much more concrete than they are presently, without players or the development team having to consider how things will work when our imaginary bros and bro-ettes are X levels higher. Content and job adjustments can be made with level 99 and only level 99 characters in mind.
Whether they add super-special merits and content for level 99 the second we hit the level or three months later doesn't really matter to me. Given how the level cap progression has worked thus far, though, I do see why a relatively new player would be concerned. I guess all the stuff that happened while sitting at 75 for years gives a bro a different perspective about hitting 99 and then sitting there.
What is there to this game other than Levelling and Battle Content? Not surprising in the least that you'd ask this question.

I've completed all the storylines..

If you say so... You're delusional if you think it's anything else since the level rise. Unless you want to include tedious trials in there as well.
Also quite delusional if you think SE will do anything else other than add recycled content, or not so new/old content.
