Everyone rather compete for mobs in [A] than teaming up. I didn't know I was playing WoW.

Had some JP players show this off in Misa, day before yesterday over the rabbit that drops WAR and WHM, I only wanted WHM for a friend and tanking in full EVA, him and his BLM/WHM friend died almost every time. While me and my WHM friend (with me tanking in TP gear) did pretty well off, the WHM didn't even really need to heal more than once or twice a battle and actually melee'd just for giggles.
I continued to offer to Team Up but they wouldn't say a word to me, I ended up just popping over them until they left.

It's easy for the unwashed masses to team up when they're woefully outmatched by their competition.
When the real competition no longer gives a crap about Abyssea, the unwashed masses suddenly become total dicks to one another, because they actually stand a chance.
The solution? Hopelessness. Grind people so far into the dust that their only option is to team up with others if they want even a remote chance of popping an NM, and suddenly they'll want to team up again.

I love it when you goto a pre-empy nm and even though it wouldn't hurt them to team up some people won't its not a huge majority of people but some won't.

We are the playerbase.
If you think that the way people treat each other has changed in any significant manner, you're either idealizing the past, or haven't played long enough to know different.
There have always been jerks, elitists, noobs, confused people who think they are on xbox live or WoW, and confused people who think MMOs are a form of free psychiatric help. There will always be those kinds of people.
Go forth and dare to be different! Offer to team up. Do something else if the jerk coefficient gets too high at a NM. Toss people cures and offer to help when someone is struggling. It may seem like a wasted effort at times, but it's not.
Anecdote:
My friend, back in the day, wanted a joytoy for his rdm. There was a JP duo camping it against with us. They claimed it when Charby popp'd. At around 50%, charby ate them. My sister raised them, we claimed and offered to team up. We lotted on the sword and the JPs won -- and stayed while charby popp'd again.
Even today, whenever I'm soloing a lower lv job, I've gotten cures, cheers, and buffs from random people walking by. The good outweighs the bad. If you don't like how some people are playing the game -- make an effort to be different.
We are the playerbase, not some amorphous, outside creature that we can't influence.

I just hate it when someone goes to go solo Audumbla, or some other NM with high health, and they sit there wasting everyone's time and refuse to let a party that can actually trigger procs help them.

Hello, you must have just restarted. This has been a pretty common thing once people figured out how abyssea works. Some would just rather wait until you finish your pops, others will team up if you are farming seals sometimes cause it can make things go faster. A lot of people though would just rather not deal with competing with people over seals so they don't team up. It all depends on what you are doing. There is a lot of people who farm ki NM that won't team up with people who want seals from those same NM because it just slows them down.

Lol, thanks for all of the responses. I just am getting back from a 6ish month break. But I was more referencing other mages doing the same staff trial preferring to compete over mobs, instead of teaming up to multiply their kill count. I know that people are always camping against each other, because there's usually only a chance for one of a loot to drop. It just confused me, why someone would camp against someone, when it would only be beneficial for both people to team-up.
Believe me, i've sent /t's and /sh's to the people/general-area about it.

Depends on what the mobs are that you're talking about... I can think of any number of reasons why I wouldn't want to team up with some random person in Abyssea...
- Trust is a large issue. I don't need a random person taking my Key Items from chests, lotting my drops, making NM fights harder than they need to be by playing like an idiot.
- I don't plan on killing those specific mobs for long, and don't want to be bothered with being followed around the zone.
- My lights are capped, and I don't want you getting kill shots.
- I'm just messing around, and don't want to feel obligated to pay attention or keep pace with anyone else.
- I'm leveling combat skills, and don't want anyone killing the mobs faster.
...those are some common ones.

Sometimes people get all pissy when I'm farming upgrades solo while they have a full pt... but I am honestly after all 4 possible drops because I have too many jobs leveled now that need gear that isn't horribly outdated pre75 junk. Sure I miss out on procs, but I still end up getting the stuff I want faster than in a PT most of the time.

Are you just meeting people doing stuff and asking to team up? If you want to do something, it's best if you join up before people get started with stuff. Except in events like WoE where everyone gets rewards, people generally want no more people than they need to accomplish a task. This doesn't mean that something is wrong with the playerbase.
In abyssea specifically, some monsters are simply in too high demand and some kind of adjustment is necessary to reduce head-butting.

Well that doesn't make any sense. Sorry I don't have an answer for this one.

If you are talking about farming seals solo I am going to have to disagree with its faster solo. Even if I needed all four seals from that NM I would set up a party for each one I needed because you get them way faster with procs. +2? Yeah it's probably faster to farm +2 solo.

It was faster for me to farm seals in a group even if I need all 4. It's one of the perks of having, like, friends and all.

That's how the game used to be. "What happened to the player base" should have been asked when people were campaigning for the end of HNM/competitive end-game.

The playerbase needs a common foe to unite against, for it's clear that they are utter douchenozzles by nature if left to their own devices.
I volunteer Krabnucle for this position. Down with Krabnucle!

I can get behind this.
Krabnucle is to blame for the limited number of new spells and abilities thus far at 99, and Krabnucle hasn't bathed recently enough!
He is an evil to be sought out and destroyed! Or...at least rinsed a bit.

(psst: it's because they were suddenly able to be greedy and get away with it)
Everyone knows the only real nice guys are the ones who are still nice after they have power.

Yeah there's nothing better than popping a mob 4 times in a row then having to pop, farm item, pop , farm item..
