View Full Version : What I like Atomos to do...

I have read through alot of the threads and havent seen this mentioned. If someone has already mentioned this I apologize.
If possible I like Atomos to be a summon that casts 1 selectable spell and dissappear like Odin/Alexander, but NOT be a 2 hour ability.
Atomos would get 1 spell per level, each spell would be a zone name. When summoner selected that spell the party would be instantly teleported to that zone. Use the already existing Atomos gates/warp crystals etc as "landing zone". Add new "landing zones" where necessary.
The warps should correspond with level attained to level of zone. So a level 4 Summoner could port themselves to Windhurst, Bastok, Sandoria.
I think this would be nice utility to Summoner without repeating any skills the other avatars dont already have.

Umm.... We already have a clear assumption of what Atomos may be utilized for and SE already has their sites on making Atomos an astral flow only summon. Personally, I dislike Atomos and would rather not have it but... anyway.
There's no reason for SMN to have there own warp. There's already an over abundance of ways to warp around that anything else will be redundant.
Need to get to a town?
Airships, Voidwatch T1 warp, synergy earrings (can be for pretty much every city, including Nashmau). Similarly in the past, Voidwdatch T1 warp to move between the three nations.
Abyssea NPCs in every nation can warp you to the maws. And again with past, along with already existing spells with WHM and BLM, teleport earrings, retrace scrolls, nation warp staves can easily take you to the past and then use campaign warp to get to your designated area.

Atomos has only ever used 2 abilities, Soul Vacuum, and Soul Infusion. With the mention that he would be a 2-hour only avatar, I thought his abilities would work in the following way:
When casting Atomos you would target either yourself or a party/alliance member. Atomos would appear and use Soul Vacuum on all surrounding enemies. He would then use Soul Infusion on the target of the spell.

Some how I missed SE ever saying that Atomos was going to be a 2 hr only, but I have seen a lot of people speculate it. Was there a convention or interview that they mentioned this? I agree I rather not even have Atomos if its just redunant abilities.
Also while you are correct there is an excessive amount of fast transportation methods. All of them require that the individual has already been there. Right now one of the more annoying things I have encountered is creating\joining a group to find out someone in the group does not have that fast transportation. Resulting in the entire party/alliance sitting and waiting 30-45 minutes for the individual to get there. Long ago this never seemed like a problem, but now it seems to happen every time.
I pretty much just threw this thread together in (the unlikely event) that either people would agree or someone would come up with a better idea for the avatar and an SE designer might actually run with it.

Hey all! Got a bit of information from the development team about the new avatars that are incoming in a future version update.
While we don't have too many specifics to share because things are still in the planning stages, the current plan is to make Cait Sith an avatar similar to the likes of Carbuncle, where you can go into battle with Cait Sith at your side. Atomos on the other hand would be similar to Odin and Alexander in that he is used solely for his 2 hour ability.

Assuming SE manages to make another of their bloopers, I would assume Atomos will drain your party members stats and give to you. Making you a super SMN, that nobody will let melee, and make all the other melee angry that you ruined their damage.

So.... you'd like your suggestion to be taken into consideration because of what's been bolded as the premise?
=\ Holding back comments I'd rather say, when ease of exploration kupo power is active, you can teleport between the three nations, Mhaura and Selbina without ever actually traveling to them prior.
There isn't much to be expected from atomos unless his ability is godly on par with fighting him in WotG mission. Like I've stated before, We could do without. Atomos is ugly anyway.

Well I like to believe the paragraph as the whole to be taken into consideration, and not just the bolded line.
The problem for myself lately hasn't been getting the newly initiated Abyssea Warriors, Black & Blues to the zones around Muhara or Selbina. Its getting them to Xacabard. Escorting through Raugmount path is getting old. I use Xacabard because its the one problem most people have probably encountered at least once.
While I can understand "The new generation has it to easy already", I don't see it any more drastic of a change than the simplification from Magian Trials or Abyssea had on attaining gear. I guess it could always be limited by making it a 2hr. 99 Zones maybe extreme also, but at least to places that currently have no fast travel.
It still fits into the lore, since I think 99.9% of the time the Atomos ability players see most is him eating them and spitting them out between current time, past time and abyssea.

no atmos will draw all the mobs in zone to you and make them aggro you!

If Atomos can control time, maybe it will be an avatar we use all the time by allowing us to warp time so we get shortened rage and ward timers at some (hopefully) reasonable MP cost/trade off.
SE had openly mused about this idea before have they not?
I'd take that Atomos over any fancy damage or situational group buff mechanic. But I fear we'll get a version of the Corsair's 2hour ability with Atomos where all JA timers are reset and there's a high chance of resetting 2 hour timers at the cost of the summoner's entire MP pool. And it will be another group buff thing that SE still think we should focus more on.
