So, I've been levelling BLU lately and been wondering if my magic skill affects the chance of learning a spell. So far, I've been diligently keeping my spell list up to date, learning spells before I can use them if possible. But sometimes I wonder if I should level first, only getting my important spells, and get the rest later with a higher blue magic skill.

I am already aware that I need to be within 30 of where I'd be capped for the level of the spell in order to have a chance, but I do not know if boosting it further helps. Any info would be appreciated.

As far as I'm aware you just need enough skill to be within the learning range, and then any more skill does not really matter. The only thing which increases the chance of learning is AF hands. At least that was always my take on it.

Nobody really knows either way given what a hassle it would be to properly test. Anecdotally, I go out every update and farm spells prior to leveling and I still have a great learn rate with AF hands.

That and learning spells can be completely /random at times. Even with af1 hands/af1 body (if needed)and caped skills. you might learn a spell with same gear as other ppl in pt and it takes them 3-4 more trys makes it seem lotto lol i know couple years ago it took me like 2 weeks worth of 1-2hr trips to get Sophric or w/e in carp landing and had a friend get it first try

I've always kept my Blue Magic skill capped prior to going to learn a new spell and have had very little trouble learning most spells. I'd say on average, I've learned most within the first 3 kills. There have been maybe 6 spells that took a while, but mostly because the mobs wouldn't use the skill I was trying to learn. My sister has recently started Blue Mage, and doesn't keep up with her skill and has a horrible time learning new spells.

I was always under the impression that CHR helped the chance of learning spells... was this disproved? I saw this info back when BLU first came out and I started to level it, but never really kept up-to-date with the testing/info.

Christ I remember that rumour back in the day when ToAU just came out. But I never heard any shred of proof, nor it ever really coming up again after the first few months of BLU :P

Chr affects blu spells the same way it affects enmity for provoke.

lol people that suggest CHR to learn BLU spells need to be beaten with a Slipper, repetitively.

The only enmity I've seen it affect is the enmity of the Pld forums every time someone brings it up.
