Hello everyone,

It's me Hvinire, the Community Manager behind the scenes. I wanted to pop in to talk a little about our XI/XI/XI promotions.

As you may have read on PlayOnline.com we're running a sale on FINAL FANTASY XI Ultimate Collection Abyssea Edition (http://store.na.square-enix.com/store/sqenixus/en_US/pd/productID.241238700), 50% off for one week. For any of you who still haven't picked up this full collection of FINAL FANTASY XI content, you can get your copy off our Square Enix Online Store (http://store.na.square-enix.com/store/sqenixus/en_US/pd/productID.241238700) for only $9.99. Plus you'll also receive 111 Members Points, more the double the value of any other game purchase!

After 9 years of service, adding the Abyssea battle add-ons, and raising the level cap, the game has seen a lot of changes. Enough changes that we saw this a perfect time to launch our new FINAL FANTASY XI 14-Day Free Trial (http://www.finalfantasyxi.com/freetrial/)! So if you still have some friends who haven't seen the plains of La Theine during a summoner's spring, or stepped into the Duchy of Jeuno to wrangle their first chocobo--here's a great opportunity to invite them along your adventures in Vana'diel.

You also might have noticed that our friends in Japan held a concert today. The show is called Vanacon, during which 14 tracks from the FINAL FANTASY XI soundtrack were played by full orchestra or in one instance solo'd by acclaimed piano virtuoso Kumi Tanioka (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=eRhBsXLITWE#t=15s), whom you might remember from Fan Festivals past.

We invited ZAM Editor Elmer to attend these majestic performances. After the concert, Elmer had this to say about his experience:

As a musical tribute to the history of Final Fantasy XI, Vanacon proves once again why this MMO deserves to be a numbered title. The beautiful orchestrations were familiar and close to my heart, yet vibrant and new in their arrangements. City themes, field tracks and epic boss battles echoed through the hall in all their symphonic glory as in-game video played back classic adventures from expansions past.

The encore was a stirring rendition of the classic Final Fantasy theme, which seemed to invite all fans to step forth into a new decade of adventure. It was a captivating performance, and it would be heartbreaking if they did not share it with more fans around the world.

Please check out Elmer's full concert report here (http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/story.html?story=28250).

Since first announcing this concert and hearing Elmer's appreciation for it, we've considered perhaps that NA players would also like the opportunity to attend a similar event here at home. We've heard a few of you speak up and ask that, yes we hold a concert here, but how do the rest of you feel? We'd love to hear your feedback about whether or not a FINAL FANTASY XI orchestrated concert is something you'd be interested in attending.

Please give your thoughts in this thread, I'll be sure that we take all your feedback into account and report back on such a possibility.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great XI/XI/XI!

After attending a very memorable Distant Worlds concert in London last week I would almost fly to the States for a FFXI concert :)

I'd totally attend an orchestral FFXI concert, and knw quite a few people who would as well. Like Kyte said though, east coast, please.

In regards to having a concert in the USA, there needs to be more than one way for your fans to get to experience the event. Not to be Captain Obvious, but the United States is significantly larger than Japan. Merely having one concert is going to shut out a massive portion of fans who may only have the means to purchase tickets, but then can't pay for travel expenses. If there could possibly be a concert for most of the major markets, it will give more fans a bigger chance to experience the concert. While I can only speak for myself, I would gladly pay a higher ticket price if it meant the extra cost would allow for the orchestra to travel and give fans the opportunity to participate.

If such a thing is not possible, get a film and/or audio crew to the concert and have them record the performance. Having access to a hard copy of the properly recorded video/audio of the concert would be the next best thing. Having to settle for audience member Handy-Cam footage on YouTube is downright depressing.

So when you but it, how are the reg codes distributed? Do you just get an email containing them? Do you have to start the download client to get them? Dose this still include the code for the hat?

Concert in the US? OMG {Yes, please.} Chicago would be most easily accessible for me, but I'd be willing to travel for this. Wouldn't be the first time I've traveled to attend a Final Fantasy concert.

how much effort would it take for a tour? seems like we'd need two dates/cities.. maybe even three. (east/mid/west) since it's a concert, not a convention.

east coast!

Fusionx

Obviously I'm going to be a bit biased, but I think Chicago would be a great location for a concert event. It's been the site for numerous concert premiers in the past (Dear Friends, Distant Worlds, Play!) But I agree in that there needs to be at least two runs, east and west coast probably, with possibly a third in the middle somewhere?

Also- I think I speak for everyone when I say Iwould absolutely love to see a CD with these orchestrated tracks on them.

On a side note... you could totally have a concert as part of some type of bigger event... fanfest /cough

FFXI Concert all the way but it would be a great idea to try and have the concert but it is just going to be a pain for people to have to play all the way out to California for a Weekend to see just one single concert.

If there was a way to make it local somewhere like West be in California, Central can be somewhere like Chicago or (if possible) somewhere closer to Texas. :P As for East I say New York or Florida.

Does this version include the Destrier Beret?
Can I buy this version, ignore all the registration codes except the Destrier Beret one, and register it for my currently active character on my currently active EU account?

You will get the codes right after you submit your payment information, they will be there for you to see. The Destrier Beret is included in this I can confirm this because I just purchased it.

Good to know you don't give two shits about europeans.

You seem so hard done by.. lol... Try having to pay 4yrs of subscriptions in euros coz SE doesnt support AUD even though its a globally recognised currency :P

Anyway, on topic, I live in Sydney, Australia, and I have friends who play and live in New Zealand.. we get even less of a chance of getting a concert than in UK/EU region :P

TBH I was amazed that distant worlds came to the Sydney Opera House (Nobuo Uematsu himself sat a mere 4 rows back from me!! :D and man was the opera house the best venue to have the concert at!) but they didnt go to NZ so my friend had to fly over from Christchurch and stay with me to see it.

I also think the reason for them asking about "USA concert" is because they themselves are based in USA

Will there ever be an album released for Vanacon?

That's the album they SHOULD have released, not this silly "31 tracks straight from the game that sound exactly the same" nonsense.

I've just barely scratched the surface with FFXI, but I'd definitely go if it came to NYC.

well since chances of coming to brazil are prattically 0 to none i guess i would travel to US to watch some no doubt (its cheaper than to japan at least and i can understand english better than japanese), while on the concert topic, altough i dont know for sure if an FFXI concert would have a huge reception here (probably not lol) but i belive Distant Worlds would indeed have a huge feedback, you know if they have ever considered coming around here? i mean well we have VGL concert here now for about 5 years and they where pretty much all sold out ( and ALOT of ppl go crazy onde they start some FF medley even tough they never once play anything xi related wich made me sad) so i guess that maybe a good bet. anyway yes for an US concert no doubt, also europe too deserves something the community is really big outside japan they should have something for then.

I for one would love to see a concert. I missed Distant Worlds by a landslide due to travel expenses. But if it's anywhere near the east coast i'd try my absolute best to make it to this one.

That's great, but why is this only being announced and picked up by sources catering to people who already play the game?

I'm just saying a little effort in actually advertising and marketing FFXI couldn't hurt, is all.

Yes, please! Dear Friends and Distant Worlds were both fantastic; an FFXI-exclusive concert would be icing on the cake.

I also really hope the Japanese performance was recorded... I'd love to have a CD of the XI/XI/XI concert to listen to!

Need to stop giving out in-game items exclusive to people attending to things like this.

Of course, it wont happen, but what I am saying is, it should be everyone, or no one when it comes to in-game items. Heck, even the 'Spinet' seems to be dwindling on being able to be obtained by a lot of players, even though it was promised to many of them.

It's fine to have real-life events all around, but keep in-game items available to everyone, please.
I know, it's useless to ask for that, but here I am, rock you like a FFXI.

I think it's fine to give out aesthetic items to people who attend irl events.

Now if they are giving out Mythics, that's a different story.

I'd very much enjoy the chance to attend a FINAL FANTASY XI concert presentation.

I'm also partial to it being held on the east coast. Charlotte NC has a great music venue to host it at. :D

I'd love to go to one of these concerts - The only thing is I don't live anywhere near any of the major cities it would probably be held in.

Bring it to Boston, MA or Portland ME, then I could go...

Haha, would be interesting to see what would happen if they did give such things, or even a little less drastic, in some regions. Might be so interesting that I'd be fine with just seeing it ha.

But yeah, I'm a collector and like to be able to get even the useless trinkets. I mean it's fine, really, I know those who are able to get them appreciate it (well one can only hope), but I will remain more and less annoyed about it but not mad or furious even as I might have seemed. =/

Edit:

A good example:

Hello again, I will bring a sad news to our fellow European players. As of now, no release of the OST is planned in the UK or any other EU countries that isn't France / Luxembourg and Belgium. OST arrived today in France and hopefully will be ready to be shipped in the next few days.

Regarding the code for FF XI, I am still in the process of confirming if codes from other regions can work on European FF XI accounts.

Once again, I would like to thank everyone for their patience and I completely understand how frustrating it may be not to be able to get the OST delivered in all EU countries.

I'd be partial to Washington, D.C. (but biased because D.C. and Richmond are the closest major cities to me). However, I would highly consider traveling to New York City or Philadelphia for an event.

I think it's an excellent idea, since there is an apparent lack of any other type of FFXI fan gathering since fan fest. There are a lot of FFXI players out there who would enjoy this type of thing, and would love getting together, not only to share the music, but to spend some RL time together talking about some of the best times and experiences shared in Vana'diel. And a gathering of this type would give us a chance to step away from behind the screen just for a bit and interact with other players, from various other locations and isn't that what part of the game is, to travel to (ahem) distant worlds and share new, exciting experiences?
As far as location goes, I myself would also like to see something on the East coast, not only because that is where I am located, but if you take into account the previous XI Fan Fests, they have always been on the west coast. I know that this isn't a request for a full fledged fan gathering, but a concert, but we would really like to see something on the other side of the country, just to make it fair.
One of the best days in my entire life is when I traveled to Chicago to attend a distant worlds concert to meet a friend, whom I met in FFXI 6 years ago who lives very far away from me. It is a time that I will never forget, we had so much fun! We cheered when we heard ~Bombing Mission ..laughed when they played ~Swing de Chocobo and looked at one another with a tear in our eye sadly when ~Memoro de la Stono/Distant Worlds was performed, knowing that we would have to say goodbye to one another here in our real lives, but would see each other again in Vana'diel.
Please take all of this into consideration, because we are in fact more than just characters on a screen. Though simple images flashing on a screen, and the pulsing drumbeat of the music that is played, we manage to slip away from our everyday lives to become something that we wish we would truly be. The result is new friendships formed across miles, mountains and oceans, all tied together with the love of one thing. Final Fantasy XI.
