Getting TP for casting damaging Spells. It's a pretty nice way for RDM to TP. With /DRK + Oneiros Robe, I can get 10% TP from Thunder IV with decent Store TP. It would be nice to do it without the /DRK so I could keep dual wield or TP with spells, away from the mob.

It's a trait that suits RDM, yet they never got it and the jobs that are actually supposed to switch staves (BLM and SCH) do.

This type of job trait works well for a BlueMage.

They'd need a new trait, Blue Magic isn't the occult. This would have no effect on them. If they got this it'd come in merit form.

I know one of my alternative ideas was RDM getting an enfeebling equivalent to OA. However, has pointed out with how mages are typically swapping weapons, those looking to get the most bang for the nuking buck will be swapping, and the same can apply to enfeebles for more potency or accuracy. This is one of those unfortunate cases where game mechanics don't favor hybrid play, but at the same time, SE could make it so a RDM wielding a sword or dagger would not be so magically behind a staff. I have no problem with the staff being better, but without a "Magic Affinity +5" sword or the like, it's no contest. However, I also don't want such a fix to be so heavily reliant on a single weapon. Instead, let the weapon's damage rating divided by 10 and floor (D57 would thus be 5) translate to a boost tied to either an always on trait or a JA like Composure.

Two things. First, I notice that my tense of the sentence is wrong. I meant to say "This type of job trait would work well for a BlueMage." This is My fault, because I did not proof read before posting.
Secondly I wanted to look up the properties on wiki before responding:
Grants TP Bonus when dealing elemental or Dark Magic.
Now, Reviewing thier Spell chart and witnessing My lsmates in action, namely for proc Nms, They have that area coverd. The potential of that job trait, if given, would open doors to do more damage. This is My stance. If someone disagrees that's fine. At this point, it's speculation since it has not been put into action. And under those circumstances I'll simply have to say "Ok" and leave it alone.

BLU/DRK gains no benefit from Occult Acumen from what I've been told, never tried it. I know what you mean though, was just trying to be smart.

I really wouldn't have a problem with BLU getting something like it too. The only reason I don't point it out on BLU is they already have Dual Wield and SSC abilities, so they don't have to sub anything to make themselves viable.
You can /SAM on BLU if you want more reliable TP gain and even more SSC. Where as when a RDM does it, it's just shooting yourself in the foot. Even if you have Death Blossom and an Excaliber, 5 minutes per Light SC is nothing to brag about since you would lose so much DPS for it.

I've always been against Staff use on RDM because you really shouldn't be playing RDM if you aren't going to put any emphasis on your Melee side. If you cared that much about nukes or heals, then you would be playing something else.
That being said, I hope there isn't any RDM that thinks it's ok to not have a MAB set for nukes. Otherwise you are just wasting mp.
I'm hoping we get an Elemental WS that actually makes use of all that MAB we can acquire. With the amount of MAB that RDM has gotten more recently, I would hope we get included in the upcoming emphasis on Elemental WSs. I want something that hits like a truck at 300% TP and SCs well. If I can follow up people's WSs with a SC and a magic burst, then I'm a happy RDM. Spontaneity would have a definite use for me.
The reason I would want OA in this case is so that RDMs could have a way to keep up with TPing even if they couldn't engage the mob directly. I can still do this by /DRK, but Sanguine Blade doesn't SC. So no MB and no MBB....

Red Mage used to be a powerful mage class in its own right, regardless of its melee aspect. Rather than being an awesome healer, or an awesome nuker, it was able to benefit from its ability to do both at the same time while also staying one of the most self-sufficient classes in the game. It was capable of both party support and individual action, and had one of the largest gear selections of any class in the game - all without touching a sword.
It's a downright travesty to look down on Magical Red Mage. The whole job may be useless now, but at least our Magic side was awesome for years. Good luck finding anything good to say about our Melee side.

Yeah, but that isn't the game we are playing anymore. SE blatantly outclassed us with every other mage in the game and made no secret about it. They took away the only 2 niches that people found RDM useful for and threw it's importance out the window. Granted, we can use Trial staffs just like everyone else, but we aren't going to do the same damage as everyone else and they aren't going to run out of MP like they used to. If you want to use a staff on a RDM, you have the option to do so, but i hope you are having fun.
I won't say a RDMs melee side was ever good, because I'm not here to discuss things that don't matter and won't change anything about the game. What I will say about RDM melee is and was awesome because it is and was fun. I pay for this game monthly because it is fun. I play RDM almost exclusively in the game, because it is what i find fun to play. I suggest things on the Forums because it is fun and hope they will take some of what I say seriously.
I really don't know where you came up with, "It's a downright travesty to look down on Magical Red Mage." from me saying, "I've always been against Staff use on RDM because you really shouldn't be playing RDM if you aren't going to put any emphasis on your Melee side." I didn't say everyone should be against staff use on RDM. I don't care if you want to play with a Staff, it's your decision to do so. My personal opinion is I don't want to because it isn't fun and I don't feel like I'm playing my entire job and I never have when I'm lugging around a staff.
My suggestion for OA is because I want to get more out of my favorite job. It is a more rewarding play style for me and lets me entertain the possibility of RDM actually being good as well as fun at some point. Until then, I'll just keep having fun.
