View Full Version : Suggested Changes to Auto-Translate Dictionary

Because I have nothing better to do than compose these little missives...

Since we're bumping against the limits of the dictionaries, I've been thinking of terms that can be removed safely.

First and foremost, I don't see the need to have separate entries for most Wings of the Goddess areas. We can type "[S]" just fine and, I presume, it will still be understood universally.

Similarly, I'd replace all the separate entries for Dynamis areas with a single auto-translate term for "Dynamis" that can be used with an area name. "Abyssea" can be added on its own for similar reasons. Even one for "Residential Area" could produce a net gain of 3 open slots (and I already note there's no entry for "Al Zahbi Residential Area").

We might also be able to get away with doing away with the entries for the individual stating points (we can just combine the name of the area with "Runic Portal," like what is usually done with Nyzul Isle's staging point), but discerning between the Azouph and Dvucca staging points might get confusing.

Also, it would help to keep an eye out for "temporary" items that really aren't. I've had "Scroll of treasure" and "Carrier pigeon letter" on me for years after completing their respective quests.

The actual phrase book entries are a trickier matter, but do we really need separate entries for "Boss," "Mega Boss" and "Last Boss?" Especially when we also have things like "Notorious Monster" and "Final?"

Individual blue magic spells might be better treated as items in the auto-translate system, having to be added to a user's dictionary manually. This is similar to what bards have to do already, having to choose between combining generic terms like "Fire" "Threnody" or using the name of the "Fire Threnody" scroll item. Some of the confusion might be mitigated by adding in generic terms for monster families like "Beast" and "Demon."

I'm sure I'll add more silly ideas as they come to me.

P.S. the /translate command and other ways to get items and key items into a player's auto-complete dictionary could be more streamlined. Having to hit spacebar-tab-"items"-esc-esc to manually refresh the dictionaries is clumsy.

Don't have to go to items. Spacebar > tab > tab > esc > esc works as well. Though your point still remains, figured I'd give ya a pointer to help some, even if it's in the tiniest way.

Thought of another: a single term for "Cloister."

And thanks, Fiarlia.

There is a whole lot of redundancy and never used words/terms/phrases in there that could easily be pruned out. If they want I'm sure they can.

They should also divide it up, instead of loading so much into memory at once anyway *looks at key items bug* >.>

I just want all WS to be in the dictionary.

As I observe the use of the auto-translate function on the Valefor server it's mostly US/EU players using auto-translate. Since most of them are actually able to speak understandable english it might be kinda wasted. Ignoring wishes from outside JP in favor of JP wishes has been SE's policy for years so don't expect any additions soon.
