View Full Version : Wyvern Staggering in Voidwatch

I've tried everything. I've swapped around Drachen/Wyrm Armet. I've tried wearing all "enhances effect of wyvern's breath" gear (Armets, Torque, Glassblower's belt.) I've tried using mutiple weapon skills (polearm/sword/staff). I've tried NOT wearing any Wyvern breath armor. Hell, I've even tried dismissing and recalling my Azure. And I still can't ever get her to use the breaths that our periapt is saying will stagger the fiend. A prime example;

Today, not even 15mins before I wrote this post, my linkshell and I were fighting Cherufe in Batallia Downs. Two of the stagger hints, right off the bat, were wyvern earth/wind breath attacks. Ok. Cool. So, trying to proc it, I run up and use Smiting breath. Azure uses Frost Breath. Figured I'd have to do it a few times, but no. Every time, constantly swapping gear around and using Deep Breathing when I could, and all my Azure used that entire fight was Frost Breath (with the exception of one Lightning Breath which I have no idea how because it never did it again afterwards.)

Please, for the love of god, split Smiting Breath into multiple commands like Maneuvers in which we can force the correct breath, or just remove the breath staggers of Wyverns entirely... Please...

(Example of split)
Dismiss
Steady Wing
Flame Breath
Frost Breath
Gust Breath
Earth Breath
Lightning Breath
Hydro Breath
Restoring Breath

Have all attacking breaths share the same recast timer, like Maneuvers. Can keep the 1min recast timer or even extend it if you must to keep the game fair.)

Cannot +1 this enough. It's maddening trying to get anything other than say, Gust Breath on Qilin, even when working in tandem with BRD / BLM / NIN to try to lower the appropriate elemental resistance.

Yeah, I just did Goji and Earth/Ice wyvern breath attacks come up. Tried skillchaning in hopes that Azure's AI would kick in and attempt to magic burst... Nope. Gust Breath spam all the way.

Only way to force breath you want is to weaken the mob's resistence against the element of the breath you want.

Need Gust Breath? Cast:
Wind Threnody+Quake II+Doton:San+Hit once with EnstoneII.

The above all stack and should give the mob -100ish vs Wind Resistance, enough for the wyvern to exploit that and use Gust Breath UNLESS the mob already has such a high wind resistance that the -resistence still doesn't lower it enough to be lower than other elements(neutral). So if all of it's resistances were say +200 and wind was 350, the -resistance might not be enough to lower it compared to other mobs. But that case would only occur if it was a Wind Based mob I imagine. Making Smiting Breath into a 'Command Category' like Phantom Rolls/Waltzes/Flourishes/Quickdraw/Steps, in that when selected, another drop down menu appears of all elemental breaths would be great. I feel like this would be appropriate for a level 90 Dragoon to do, to be able to CHOOSE which level 1 breath the Wyvern uses, instead of it being Random like it was from 1-89.

Realistically I can imagine SE making 6 orbs called "Gust Orb, Hydro Orb" etc that when equipped, force a certain breath only, instead of doing it the way we want them to with a split command list cuz they love giving us more -inventory.

If you macro out the "wyvern uses breaths more efficiently" or what ever it is have you got more chance to stagger following a random breath? Still wouldn't be perfect though and /SAM would certainly be more popular!

Except as the wyvern gains higher levels, it uses its breath more efficiently automatically. It's either an invisible tiered trait or it gets the AF helm effect at a certain unspecified level.
