The idea is simple: take pledges and donations, and play FFXI for 24 hours straight, and become a real life hero!

As far as what exactly to do in game, and which cause to contribute to, that is to be determined.

My two cents as far as that goes is: getting 6-18 people together and start new characters specifically for this event, and take on the Rank missions, leveling up, and getting subjobs together along the way.

I would love to do this around the holiday season, when folks may have the time to plugin for a 24 hour stint, and it's timely in the spirit of giving.

Discuss!

There's actually something very similar to this already called extra life. Its a donation based 24 hour game-athon that takes place annually in october. www.extra-life.org (http://www.extra-life.org) Its just had its 4th anniversary last weekend and has raised over 1.1 million dollars.

I saw this! That was kind of what inspired the idea. I couldn't get a sense from their site of whether or not it would be feasible to do this with FFXI though. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get started organizing this, that would be great.

Perhaps even SE themselves could assist somehow either with organization or getting the word out.

I believe LBR and PFA have advertised it in the past, though I believe they didn't do it this year due to the various hosts having other time commitments (I'll be honest, it's tough telling an employer you need the day off to play video games)

BTW, I've loved your emails to PFA :)

Hehe thanks.
Yeah I totally agree it'd be tough to get off work for a lot of people, but that's also why I'm suggesting around the holiday season :)

Maybe I'll reach out to the PFA folks.
