I've always seen board after board of people who complain about XIV or that it is the future of the FF:MMORPG series but i have one major question...
Is there any point of playing FF:XI anymore????
I've seen the plans for XIV like expanding the game with new area's but i really want to know if we are EVER going to see a real expansion or is this game for those who've enjoyed every story line in the game going to be a pissing match for better gear once your done all of that.
Its just a simple question.
Is there a future for this game. YES OR NO??

As much as your signature shows how your attempt to troll fails, All i wanted to know is if we're going to get new story content and thats all, I loved the story for ACP and WotG was an awesome time travel story line i really want a new story, I don't play this game for gear alone, i play for the player base and the story. New area's would be nice but a new story to occupy my time would be better.

/sigh these forums need a lesson on what is a troll and what is not a troll.
This subject has been talked to death on the forums but I answer short and sweet.
As long as people play FFXI it has a future.

People were asking the same question 6 years ago. So I'd say yes.
It does to some kind of an extent. Thing is they chose to focus on everything else but "big" content for this year. And I'm sort of glad they did because it's stuff that they've been putting off for years because they were always so busy with the "big" stuff. It's not doing us any favors in Voidwatch, though.
My only hope is that the next add ons will not be related in any way whatsoever to WotG or the word Void. Shit was cool for the first three years. Now it's just getting repugnant and stale. I'm glad they are doing what they can and I know they can't just make us stand by for 2 years while they whip up some awesome expansion pack. But once VW is done it would be much appreciated for the voidwalkers and maws to go the way of the dinosaur and let present day Vana'diel as we know it return to it's former glory. She deserves better than only being useful for magian trials and ToAU content. Even if it means another copycat zone. For example, modern day Grauberg/Inlet/Fort could be released. It could be Abyssea minus the buffs, time limits, everything that makes Abyssea Abyssea. The thing for it would be 3 new end game zones where people can enter freely, and has timed/force/lottery NMs to target all over the place. It can be content for both the casual and hardcore player.
Now maybe the average casual player couldn't half ass their way through such content, but the point is content for both types of players can co exist in the same zone. And while I rather see new zones, this one idea here just makes sense. The zones didn't just vanish out of existence so they can be used for present day Vana'diel to some extent. I don't really care too much what zones they use and whether or not it's reskins. But if I have a choice, which I don't but if I had a choice, I would choose my idea over voidwatch. I want more content like sky/sea/abyssea and less of the event style stuff with 30min-1hr time limits.
I want to spend more time enjoying end game and less time WAITING to enjoy end game.

Im shaking my head so hard at Voidwatch that I almost wish they just continued churning out 3 Abyssea zones per patch till the game died off.
Perhaps then we'd get a storyline or something. Rebuilding Abyssea, interdimensional trade disputes, Abyssean brigands wanting to settle lands in Vana'diel by force, war between Abyssea and Vanadiel, Exdeath giving a long drawn out speech about the void, colonization of Abyssea by Vana'diel... something.
As it stands the Voidwatch cutscenes are about as intriguing as watching Cid's dislocated jaw. There is no story, there is no reason for shit coming out of a rift, the droprates are awful and we're certainly not playing Final Fantasy.
No matter how hard WOTG is slammed for having a lack of content, the story content was Final Fantasy tier. We might as well be playing Generic MMO XI right now.

Ask yourself if you enjoy playing, if you answered "yes" then it's worth playing still.

You can't get a straight answer to a question whose answer is subjective to player's personal opinions. You can only answer that question for yourself. Play it for yourself then decide if it's worth playing or not.

I figure that the part of the ffxi team that does the storyline got pinched for ffxiv, so don't expect any new story until that is sorted. Then give them 6 months to write new stuff for ffxi.
June 2013 maybe?
You heard it here first.
/sigh these forums need a lesson on what is a troll and what is not a troll.
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[3] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[4] The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted".

If there is a future, its a bit far away.
They're lengthening the time it takes for them to release 99 for way too long.
Since the cap was raised it's all been filler content for every new level cap. Until we're 99 for awhile and endgame starts to add up, I don't see this game as worth playing. We had a lot of content at 75 that was viable for its level for years that added onto itself.
Abyssea was pretty big, but the only endgame right now other than abyssea is VW/dynamis. Both have a lot of crappy drops, take a lot of work, and have low drop rates. It is too obviously filler content... I know the point of running monthly MMOs is to keep the player there each month, but this content is too drawn out and lazy for me to play for another month .
I loved this game for years and years, and I'd come back to it if at 99 there are multiple fun endgame events like there were at 75. Until then It's not worth jumping through the hoops to pay SE.

Thought it was funny that this got posted a day before the road map shows 99 coming very quickly now lol.

As far as a "future" goes, I've never really cared as much for the endless content; in fact there's so much now I don't even know what most people do in the game anymore. Synergy? Voidwatch? Magian trials? Abyssea? I'm still waiting for the entirety of Vana'Diel to open up blah story blah three nations blah conquest... I haven't even been to Sea or unlocked Atonement yet, but real life's gotten so busy and the game's become so saturated with things that I can hardly be bothered keeping up with it anymore.
Sorry, just feeling a little nostalgic. Had the pleasure of installing the game on my new old PS3, and watching that crystal spin while Vana'Diel March and the Chains of Promathea music played really got me going. I remember playing through an entire night nonestop playing my first job from Gustaberg through Konschtat and into Valkurm in one go, stuff like that and my marriage mean more to me than anything I could ever do in the game anymore. But if they ever did anything with the three nations again, as I'm going into the U.S. Air Force, having the chance to participate in a Bastokan Air Force would probably rank #2 in my favorite memories of Final Fantasy XI.

Been asked a million times before, they just ignore it or say no immediate plans for one. Seeing how much effort and staff they are putting into FFXIV though, not a chance in hell. They don't have enough staff, money or indeed intrest atm to do it.

glad to see this finally kick off. I wouldn't have minded them making 1 final mini-expansion for abyssea where you can visit the ruins of the old towns and even make those the new abyssea dynamis area's. Just have it that it was still too dangerous back before lvl 99 cap and put a real story in it this time.
I really do love this game, i got great friends, met my what was soon to be wife and now is wife in this game, enjoyed the odd event back in the day. This game hold a dear part of my heart but with all the story lines done and over with its seeming rather bland atm though T.T
give me more story T.T i need some amusment again lol -.-

I know its just one mission, and its the jeuno airforce, not bastokan, but seriously, work on that CoP =P. Airship fight was awesome back in the day, and its not a challenge anymore, but the cutscenes and battlefield accompanied with it make it well worthwhile.

I agree, it was the challenge from hell at times but you felt you accomplished something, the story line was fun...loved those 3 tarus, loved their ending story.
