View Full Version : Why must we zone for quests?

Currently at 47 attempts at Refresh Stearc Subligar on the Brygid the Stylist Strikes Back quest. And this would be 100,000x less annoying if I didn't have to walk back and forth constantly wasting time over and over.

But really, it isn't just this quest either i've never understood why other quests require you to zone to get the next part.

Maybe a dev can respond to this?

You answered your own question...

You answered your own question...Yup, this is SE's way of keep you on the game. Like VWNM drops. The longer something takes, the more you'll have to pay them to accomplish it.
Also, that sub is a waste of time.

They should just make this quest give you the refresh subligar on the first try right. Seriously, this quest takes only 2 minutes to complete, and rewards an overpowered item. 2min quest for an auto refresh subligar... It took me hundred of times but at 2 min per quest its not a lot of hours... maybe 6 hours. This quest is perfect as is.

I was always of the impression that zoning was the game's method of "saving" your progress that wasn't a priority (experience points, gil). Of course this was likely built into the code as a means of time sink.

This can be evidenced by macros not saving upon disconnect. This has happened to me a few times in the past. I was leveling in a zone and suddenly realized I needed to rewrite a macro (new gear, misfiring, etc). After rewriting it and later R0'ing out (or was it a full crash? I can't recall), the macros that I had altered had reverted back to its pre-disconnect form, but had saved when I zoned later on.

In some (but not nearly all) cases, the zoning is specifically because you're told to leave and come back later. In other cases, it seems like there's no particular reason for it, and since many quests don't require it, it's probably not a technical reason.

1. You're assuming something right off the bat.
2. Yeah, 6 hours zoning back and forth is totally fun and should be apart of every MMO out there.

What part of what Monchat said is an assumption?

The 2 minutes to complete the quest? Maybe you're just not as efficient as you thought you were at doing the quest.

Refresh +1 in legs is over powered? Up until this quest no item gave refresh in the leg slot. If you don't think that's overpowered then explain why people want/ed RDM Relic Hat so badly.

How about the part that it took 6 hours being a small amount of time to get a refresh subligar? Pointing back to the RDM relic hat, I spent 3 years with 2 different LSs before ever seeing that hat drop (this was before the changes to dynamis). So 6 hours seems like a joke especially when you factor in its 6 hours solo. It could take you 100 hours and would still be fast/cheap in my eyes.

Who says it is supposed to be fun? It is a time sink which is the bread and butter of subscription based games. If you can get everything you want without taking hours, months, and/or years to get it then what's the point of still playing?

47 attempts... took me 200+... My friend got hers 1/1.

Edit: And LOL. Sterc Subligar with Refresh +1 isn't overpowered at all.

I guess you live in Japan in which the delay is less and cutscenes load faster.

It's been over eight hours worth of trying and I still haven't got it so..

And as you can see the game is a lot different than back when you were trying to get that hat. Just because you had to go through something doesn't mean I should be thankful I don't.

Somewhere I thought playing games = fun I guess not anymore.
I have a question for you. If you're only playing the game for equips, what's the point of still playing?

The bolded part was sarcasm...

I guess you live in Japan in which the delay is less and cutscenes load faster.
Your ISP's speed, computer, and your modem/router's quality are all a factor not just distance from the main servers, on top of that knowing how many times to press enter before another key help speed up the process.

Random luck is random, look at Soranika's post referencing a friend going 1/1.

And as you can see the game is a lot different than back when you were trying to get that hat. Just because you had to go through something doesn't mean I should be thankful I don't.

Who said I cared about RDM Hat back then?I don't care now that I have it because I don't go RDM to things. The point was it was extremely wanted, and not for the enfeebling skill since RDM could land enfeebles on hard mobs without the hat. And the time involved was accepted, even by current means some have spent 2+ months of daily runs in Xarc looking for that hat where as my friend and I have gone about 20 times and gotten 3. Random luck is random after all.

I have a question for you. If you're only playing the game for equips, what's the point of still playing?

A few reasons:
- Gear, weapons, armor etc. Whatever I need to do other things better.
- The random luck involved when killing a NM or finishing a quest, its a nice little rush waiting to see a drop I want.
- My friends who are in the game still.
- Solo challenges I give myself.
- Finding different ways to clear the same old content.

What I don't play the game for:
- Repeating quests after the first time.
- Repeating missions after the first time.
- Killing NMs over and over again in the same setup after the first time.

That said I'm not naive enough to ignore the fact these repetitions are there to keep me and others playing until more new content is added.

These exist in every game because if they weren't there in any form games would just be a movie.

Autorefresh is overpowered.

what the fuck am I reading.

So you think this quest is hard;
1. enter A-altepa
2. take visitant status.
3. warp to #8 and talk twice to a NPC.
4. exit A-altepa.

You do not have to fight anyting, you do nothave to gather ingredients or whatever. You do not have to have a party to complete it. You just need to talk to a NPC. Its hard!!

It took me 6 hours, some people will take 1 some will take 10. It doesnt matter, its fast, and once it's done, it's done. In comparison the refresh hairpin from Konschtadt takes much longer to get, while the refresh club is , like, 15minutes, and the refresh earring is... 3 weeks of cutscenes with lots of JP midnights?
