View Full Version : Barrier Tusk is not a phalanx.

Can it pleaaaaaaaase not be considered a Phalanx spell?
It isn't a phalanx spell, it's -15% DT, its great that it stacks with the 50% you can reach with gear/atma/shell/whatever, but when it takes over the slot that Phalanx II -30+ damage takes, it isn't so great anymore.
Or turn it into a self-phalanx that is as potent as phalanx at top blue magic skill level.... that would mean it would make sense to put it in the Phalanx buff spot.

If you're fighting something that does 200 damage or more after PDT/MDT/DT spells/gear you would take less damage using barrier tusk. To me its a fair trade off as I wouldn't be casting it on mobs that don't do large amounts of damage anyways.

The effect of Barrier Tusk and this effect being considered a Phalanx effect is fine. The only problems with the spell are its long casting time and short duration; these two factors make it hardly worth casting on even harder hitting monsters.

It kind of is, it's just a percentage instead of a set points of damage.

I rather have 30 damage off a hit that last 7 mins and 30 seconds from a sch then to waste 3 points and keep casting this every mintue.
yeah this spell could use a touch up -.- 15% down is not stellar when you use small numbers when there is a buff like it with a static number.
not saying it has to outdo sch or rdm phalax but it is not even really in the same leauge. You have to take a final damage of 300+ a hit to make this spell good and that is not really reasonable.

I'd rather have this than have the same exact effect that I can already get from another source. As long as they fix the duration and casting time there is nothing wrong with Barrier Tusk.
If you aren't getting hit for enough damage for the spell to be worthwhile, then you aren't fighting or tanking anything that's worthwhile.

As of now, i don't bother setting it. Would like to see a fix.

its worthless because Barrier tusk adds to what is already present. Meaning you have to have -elemental damage gear or physical damage gear on in order for barrier tusk to add anything. You notice this by checking your stats when you don't have it on, and then when you do. It literally adds nothing, while Phallanx actually adds to the player. Worthless spell, I don't use it unless I'm hardly paying attention, I'm in an event, and want to make it look like I"m doing something outside of proc'n spells. SE.... you f*cked up good this change of updates, a Heavy Strike that isn't worth a damn, and a phalanx-like spell that has to have gear with the defensive effects in order to even do anything. Thanks for making it look like your doing something when in truth your sitting on your hands and have never played BLU /slowclap.

First off a good BLU should already have a PDT and MDT set on hand. Second, what are you talking about? You still get the damage reduction even if you have 0 DT.
-Damage taken is not a visible stat. Phalanx is not a visible stat. You can see neither yet both provide a bonus to your defensive ability. You're either a hardcore troll or are really bad at the game.

Pro knocks this out of the park, but to add to it... first off, iirc, Barrier Tusk is automatically a -15% DT, but it's taken after all other reductions. So at 0% PDT/MDT, you're at 15% DT from Barrier Tusk. At 50% PDT or MDT, you're down to -7.5% DT. (50% damage x 15% damage reduction.) It's not that doesn't add to the player, but that the return isn't visible and gets cut down somewhat. It still works regardless of you bringing gear or not, though again as Prothescar says, a good BLU should be carrying a PDT and MDT set for when it's needed. Most of the items for either set aren't hard to find; Twilight Torque, Dark Rings, and Hexerei Cape can go for both types for inventory-saving (though Cheviot/Umbra is better for PDT on back).
