As a somewhat new player I have been frustrated that people don't seem to party that much anymore past 30 outside of Abyssea. I admit I have gone to Abyssea to leech a couple of times, but haven't really enjoyed it because I was mostly just bored. When I began playing the game I did pick RDM as my main job because I liked the idea of fighting the monsters while helping others in my party. (though I noticed that some parties don't expect RDMs to Melee, which is also unfortunate)
However I am lucky in that one of my friends has been playing this game for a very long time, any questions I had (and still have) I usually asked him and consulted the wiki. One day I became really frustrated by the Abyssea leeching and just asked him about the old camping spots before Abyssea. And he showed me this link:

http://campsitarus.blogspot.com/

It basically lists all the best camping spots by job level up till 75. I figured I would share it in case there is another Newbie out there who also wants to branch out of Abyssea. Now if only people will party outside Abyssea ^^

Sadly, exp party outside abby is somewhat rare now. Your best bet is to trio with a few friends and spam the pages of FoV, it will go very quickly and you will stay 5-7 lvls on each areas before moving on the new FoV areas. Xp is slower but should be a whole lot faster than before, at least you can play at your own pace and it will never be boring. There are still people wanting to party normally, but it's easier if you just do trio.

It is somewhat annoying. I'll only join a party if I'm doing something and if I'm useful. Leeching/keywhoring doesn't appeal to me either, the only time I've levelled in Aby was to take Scholar from 50 to 70, but that was because my friend was that desperate for another healer and none were LFP.

However, I'm on Asura and I know a few folk who enjoy non-Aby stuff and like to get involved with non-Aby related activities and exp parties. I run my own parties outside of Aby and generally try to avoid Valkurm Dunes and Qufim Island because it seems they're the only non-Aby parties going around. Once I've got my Scholar skilled up and have beaten Schultz, I'll be running more Whitegate parties and also some assaults. For lower level stuff, I've foolishly not levelled my subjobs and have taken BLU as a placeholder (which doesn't really work), so I'll have parties from Dunes all the way up to Western Altepa Desert too.

I suppose it's just a case of building up friends and organising things to do with them. I've found in FFXI if you want something done, then you need to be the person to organise it. Though I don't know what other servers are like for people who are LFP and of course, it can be a pain sometimes getting a team together, but have some faith. ;)

It seems Asura is the place to be.

I think it's all a case of finding the right people more than anything. If somebody in your party rants about keywhoring and leeching, you could probably be making friends with a guy who's interested in non-Aby areas. :) If you get yourself a good party, it's also worth exchanging pearls or befriending. The other guy might be a member of a great LS or you might be able to add some more great people to your own.

Saefinn, in general, if you are "leeching" with mages jobs, there are PLENTY of things you can do. After you hit lvl 50-55, which should be pretty fast, you are no longer leeching, you can heal, A LOT, and with temporary items and the right atmas, you are not going to run out of mp. A lvl 50 whms are not a leecher at abby, so is rdm, sch, and to some extend, blm and smn if they can spam cure. Bard and Corsair are useful starting at lvl 60s. Even as dancer at lvl 60s, if you have the regain atmas, you can easily help cure (or pull). As for melee jobs, you can help pull, yes it is very doable with ninja sub and if you can work it so that someone will voke your mob immediately, granted you cannot pull 3 mobs at the same time, but constantly bringing 1 mob to the party is better than nothing. A lot of melees tend to stand around idle and do nothing until a mob is brought to the camp.

Basically, if you are doing something for the alliance you are not leeching :)

Hey Nzinga, I have a small LS in Asura. Most of us are running in regular parties and most refuse to leach. Look me up IG..Skymccloud of the Clanmccloud LS

hmm i think i'm going to start paying attention to the people who complain about abyssea leeching, and then invite them into trios myself. such a great idea! (can't wait to finish leveling dnc sub)

oh! But I am in Siren! Thank you though :)
It is good to know that there are others who are looking for solutions and not just complaining ^^;
