View Full Version : Miser's Roll Testing

I must admit that when I first saw the announcement about the new rolls for COR, I was a little bit disappointed and thought both would be completely worthless. As time has passed, however, I've started thinking about the possibilities that both rolls posess, particularly miser's roll. As such, I decided to run some tests to see how powerful it could be.

Testing method:
COR95/SAM47, East Sarutabaruta. I used a combination of tactician's roll and meditate to build TP above 100, then gave myself miser's roll. I would engage a mob, then attempt a melee WS from out of range. My total TP after the failed WS is what I recorded as being the amount of TP "saved".

Results:
I: 3TP
II: 5TP
III: 7TP
IV: 9TP
V: 20TP
VI: 11TP
VII: 2TP
VIII: 13TP
IX: 15TP
X: 17TP
XI: 25TP

Bust!:
This is where I had an anomaly in my testing. I forced bust on miser's roll while I had over 100 TP and no source of regain. I then used wildfire (armageddon85), with an expected TP return of 14.8*1.15=17, but my TP return was 19. As such, the only assumption I can make is that busted miser's roll is currently glitched and gives you Save TP+2.

Conclusions:
Miser's roll is useful in any situation where WSs are vastly more important than melee or ranged attack damage. If you find yourself solo COR in abyssea just spamming wildfires, double jackpot on miser and tactician will enable you to spam wildfire like you would not believe. It's also useful in any situation where the COR is in the "WS proc party" for VW or aby.

Please feel free to run some tests of your own to confirm or deny my findings. I'm particularly interested in whether anyone can find something wrong with the way I tested the bust. I had no store TP or conserve TP gear equipped, my only store TP was the +15 from /sam.

What "Save TP" does:
This is an edit as I realize some people may have no idea what miser's roll really does (it has only been used in some really crappy atmas up until now). Let's say you have armageddon and the only WS you ever use is wildfire. Armageddon's TP return after each WS is 14.8. Now let's say you roll a jackpot(XI) miser's roll, which according to my table is 25TP, and then you use a wildfire. Instead of receiving the normal 14.8TP, you will instead receive 39.8TP. Save TP procs if you are out of range when you WS, it procs if your WS misses, and it procs 100% of the time. So with miser's roll on, everytime you WS, you will receive bonus TP in the amount I have listed in my table above.

Looks really cool :) Thanks for testing this out. For clarification, this TP was saved after every WS without fail? Or was it a % chance?

Yes, everytime. I posted some clarification on how "Save TP" works on my OP.

The Miser's Roll values were tested and have been on wiki since the day of the update.........

Edit: Sorry, I was mistaken. The information was only on BG Wiki, which isn't very widely used. My bad.

It should be, though! Honestly, I find myself bothering with Wikia/GE less and less now that we're getting so much more new content which is being tested primarily on BG =/. Byrth is an hero among men.

Did you add the bullet delay when you calculate your TP return after WS? Because if I remember correctly(haven't play XI and this job for a while so not 100% sure), a delay 480 gun gives 15~16 TP per shot without /SAM, and delay 582 gun gives 16~17 TP. So if you /SAM, wouldn't you get higher TP return than 17? And it certainly doesn't give 14.8 TP return after WS, it's too low, even lower than a delay 480 gun.
