Pretty much out of ideas on this one so I thought I'd try here.

I've been unable to log-in on my main character for a while now. Happened when I was warping from Port Jeuno to the maw in Buburimu Peninsula. Got to the 'downloading data' screen and it just timed out.

I'm now unable to log in to my main at all. I can log in to mule characters fine, but not my main. Have done a check file and a complete re-install as recommended by GMs I called and still have the same problem. Weird thing is that other people can log me on, and I had someone zone my character to Windurst and the issue still remains.

So short of formatting my hard drive or something else excessive I'm out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Same has happend to both my character ~ I contacted a GM via a mule and they told me it was my ISP that was causing the problem , If you're with BT then apparently it's on their end :/

I got told though that customer service is closed until monday so basically unless i can get it to work I'm buggered until then ..... C'mon SE sort it >_<

Don't see how it can be my ISP if I can still log on mule characters fine. Oh well, guess I wait.

After reading your email we believe the following suggestions are related to your issue.

If you are experiencing or seeing any of the following at any point, we do have a few suggestions.
Connecting to/staying connected to the PlayOnline Viewer, FINAL FANTASY XI or Tetra Master, click on your character handle and crash/black screen or get stuck at downloading data screen, click on the character select button crash/black screen or get stuck at downloading data screen, randomly getting kicked out of game, or seeing the lag meter go red, seeing more chop/lag/disconnects around crowed areas, having trouble accessing only a specific zone/zones, having trouble logging in only a specific character/characters, getting any of these errors; 3113, 3100, 4001, 1160,

Suggestions we have
===================
1 a. Check to make sure you have properly configured or turned off any of the following:
Firewall software, Antivirus Software, Parental-Controls, pop-up blocker software, Routers, Proxy Servers, NAT Servers, Internet Connection Sharing services.

1 b. If you are using any kind of software/hardware Internet Sharing service/device the following ports need INCOMING access to your PC. TCP 25, 80, 110, 443 and 50000 - 65535, UDP 53, and 50000 - 65535, also check to make sure that the ports mentioned are not blocked by your ISP for INCOMING access. Proper configuration of any of the above items mentioned should be done by following the instructions in the software /hardware manual or calling the manufacturer's technical support.

2. We recommend turning off any background programs, this should be done using msconfig startup tab:
How-To: Turn off background programs using msconfig.
(Win 98/ME) - Open the start menu and select run, type msconfig and press ok. Select the startup tab and
uncheck everything except for SYSTRAY and scan registry.
(Win 2K/XP) - Open the start menu and select run, type msconfig and press ok. Select the startup tab and choose Disable All.

3. If you are receiving the error FFXI - 3113 - Protocol Timeout Error, ensure that Client for Microsoft Networks is installed in your Windows network properties. If it is installed, you may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

4. If you have had a software firewall program called Zone Alarm by Zone Labs installed on your computer at any point in time - even if it is uninstalled now, you need to reinstall it, turn it on, configure it to allow PlayOnline to access the internet, and leave it active.

Please take note of the following FAQs
======================================
* Proxy servers, and satellite connections do not work correctly with FINAL FANTASY XI.

* You may need to set up a web browser for your PC if you are having trouble accessing PlayOnline.com.
For more information, please refer to the appropriate vendor's instruction manual.

* Your router may require that you use a PC to configure your network settings.
For more information about how to configure your network settings, please refer to the instruction manual that came with your router or contact the manufacturer directly.

* If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) specifies a DNS server, you need to make sure to configure your settings to allow packets to pass through UDP Port 53 as well.
For more information, please refer to the instruction manual for your router or the information provided by your ISP.

I posted in the other thread on this page but posting again in this one. I haven't been able to log my main char in for about 6 hours now. I was teleporting from Port Windurst to Yhoat, and got stuck on the Downloading black screen, eventually timing out to Error 3001. I have no trouble logging in my 2nd account, nor any of the mules on my main account. Every time I try to log my main back in, I get the same issue - Downloading (black screen) then timing out with the 3001 error. I find it hard to believe that it's my ISP when I can log in other characters just fine. Very annoying to say the least. I have never had any disconnect/R0 issues until the past week in all the years I've been playing. I can only assume my server (Ragnarok) is too crowded and the server can't handle it. But it's better to blame my ISP?

Also, I was part of a massive disconnect around 6pm EST as well. I suppose that the massive number of players that were complaining about it in Port Jeuno all had ISP issues as well, right?

/sigh

Lukikii try to repair your game, maybe it's a corrupted files in Yhoat, try (if you can) to log another char and get it there and see if you're getting same error message.

Thanks for responding Cdryik.

I did a check files and nothing came up to repair. Not sure if that's how I repair it or not. I also tried to log in Luki from my laptop (not my main pc) and I'm still stuck in the black "Downloading data" screen.

I took my 2nd account character and logged her in on my main PC. I was able to teleport into the zone without any issues. I can't take any of Lukikii's mules there because they are too low.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

ITs not a corrupted file, its SEs way of finding more time to figure out their own Mistake. its annoying.

Also just an FYI, SE Rep, at 6:00pm est yesterday the entire server shut down, booting everyone. Now try and tell me that was our ISPs. :)

I too am having this problem. I can tell you rightnow that this is in NO way a problem caused by my modem, ISP settings, router, phone lines, or any other excuse that Square Enix wants to try and pin on me. How do I know? I've had all the same equipment for the past 3+ years. Three years ago was when I got my PC. You'd think that then, when I was setting it up, I'd have problems then. I never did. This is plainly and simply Square Enix's problem. Blaming the consumer for your faults and problems is not the best way to go when dealing with customers that are telling you of a problem caused by your shoddy workmanship. It's called bad customer service. People are getting fed up too. I can tell by how many server merges which FFXI is going through. Has Square Enix learned nothing of the whole FF14 fiasco? We all know how that's going. SE didn't listen to it's customers then. Maybe it's time SE got down off their pedestal and saw that just because people like your products, don't mean they'll put up with your shoddy service forever. 2011 and 2012 are introducing newer MMORPGs. Square needs to take heed of it's customer base before they lose another 50% (or more) to better, newer MMOs. However, seeing as how FF14 still has no AH, I really doubt that will happen.
