SE,

Will we see the results of the survey? I'm sure we are all curious to see the percent of each platform players use. Also if the PS2 population is too low will SE continue supporting the PS2 or will SE port the game over to PS3? Either way glad I play on PC.

Due to ps2 limitations we will be unable to post the data. We apologize.

it would be nice if could be upgraded from the ps2 to ps3, you know stick it on the psn store.
But I know that will probably never happen due to having to code engine for the ps3.

They might release it but don't expect it for a while, it was more for their information than ours.

That would be nice but we already got a good and new console for ffxi and thats the Xbox360...
I agree the PS2 limitations suck tho. And one day in the future, the Xbox360 will also limit ffxi but that days hasn't come yet so who knows?

Also, is it me or do most of ffxi community on the forums tend to like the PS3 better than the xbox360?

Not to create a console wars, but I find the PS3 a lot more limited than the xbox360 when it comes down to ffxi or other things in general. For example:

Xbox360 you can talk to your friends on headsets while playing ffxi. And you can costume soundtrack in ffxi on the xbox360 and it is user friendly. Considering the ffxi original soundtrack does get repetitive and boring for some if not most people. And having the option to talk and voice chat with your friends online with a game that doesn't support headsets voice chat, does help with stronger communications and bring friends ever so closer.

You can do that in the PC TOO but with technical stuff such as trying to make the game go to windower 1st, then turn on skype or vent or other third party voice programs to talk with friends on headsets voice chat. Also, I know you can make ur own costume soundtrack for in game zones too. And that is getting deeper to the technical side of things. But all in all, thats pretty neat.

On PS3 you cannot listen to costume soundtrack unless the game supports it. Majority don't support it.
So you are stuck to listening to game music or mute the game music and use outside source like an (Ipod) which sucks if you dont have any. Plus even if you do, it wont be the same feeling as if it was coming out of the same TV you hear SFX in game to give it an In game feeling to it.

On PS3 you cant talk to your friends on headsets voice chat unless the game supports it, ffxi doesnt support voice chat so that feature is out.

PC and Xbox360 seems to have those 2 features while PS3 seems to be lacking those features.

I understand there are some people prefer to type because I had a friend who was just like that till I got him to voice chat with me and now, we talk with each other and other friends on XBL voice chat almost every time we get on and enjoy the game with our friends!
(You tend to get to know people better through headsets than seeing them type /annon)

Majority of my xbox live friends if not, All of my xbox live friends play ffxi and whats good about the xbox is I can see their friend's List and find out if they know anyone who plays ffxi too so I can meet them in game and talk to them voice chat.

It is always nice to be able to see who your friends are friends with, using that feature to meet more friends who play a similar types of games as you do. It's a Clever networking strategy. But if you do not wish people to check your friends list, you can simply put it in Privet settings which is another good Option.

But on the PS3, you cannot do that at all. You can check your own friends list but you do not have the option to see who your friends associate with and what games they play. You are Limited in how you can Network with your friends and other features that can help you build a stronger relationship with your online friends with these PS3 limitations.

Which goes back to my point:
PC, and xbox360 seems to be pretty good systems for FFXI. PS2 was a good console for ffxi however, I don't see the NEED for upgrading the PS2 to PS3 when they already have a good console that does better like xbox360 as far as the options it provides you and for what it can do.

In the end tho, PC is always the best choice. But for those who prefer consoles, I don't see a reason not to get an xbox360 considering, Xbox360 Exclusives and PS3 Exclusive RULES and both consoles are worth having, "excluding the Limitations ps3 offers"

But maybe a PS3 upgrade is ok to have for those who don't even have an Xbox360 or PC?
Just maybe.

But IMO:
you gotta be INSANE not to have a simple PC tho. =)

It's most likely something they only did for their own information and they probably won't post the results. Of course, like everyone, I'd like to see them. =\

PS3's FFXI emulation is pretty terrible from what I've heard, anyway.

I wouldn't trust a PS3 to play PS2 games, if it were the backward-compatible models. I've heard of them having a ton of issues and I'm not gonna lose sweat over that.

On that note, back on topic, I kinda want to see results too.
Mostly want to see the sample size of the player base.

I have FFXI installed on my ps3 and I have alot less issues with it then I did when playing on ps2, the only thing that happens and it few and far between is my controller will sometimes de-sync but its a quick fix.
Oh and my ps3 is fully backwards capable not the piece of crap 80gb with emulation.

I have an CECHB-01 (20GB model, no WIFI, no Memory card slots) which I *tried* to play FFXI with.

While it was EXACTLY the same thing as playing on the PS2 I could not bear the ugly and broken sound emulation (CPU and GPU isn't emulated as it has them in) caused by poor sound chipset emulation.

There's still a few advantages on playing it on the PS3:

1- You can use any hard drive on the PS3 so you won't be out of the game if the hard drive fails.
2- You can use it on 1080p (it's pseudo 1080p as you will have the old graphics "upsampled" to 1080p. This helps making the PS2-ish FFXI graphics slightly less ugly on LCD TVs.

I was/am suspicious if this survey is a prelude to the end of PS2 support. Not only does the PS2 provide many limitations to what the programmers can do, it also creates extra costs and requires more time to program/debug by having it as a third supported platform. I started on PS2. But, my console is pretty much shot. I have XBox, but I got tired of the glitches. So, I now play exclusively on the PC.

If they do release the data, I hope it also includes a break down by region.

That would be nice. But honestly, they probably consider this subject in particular "too polemical" to discuss it openly.
So I feel that it's highly unlikely they will release anything.

If they do, I see it happening quietly and swiftly, merged on the yearly playerbase census.

Oh and while I don't agree with your sig, I love the drawing in it !

For me it seems like SE knows better how to deal with PS3 hardware than xbox 360 hardware. While they're considering a port to the PS Vita (mmorpg on a handheld wut), it seems like it opens a door to porting the game to the PS3. I have never owned an xbox 360, but all of my friends that have played the game on it prefers to play it on the PC instead. The most common complaint is that the client crashes in certain places.

You know, the PS Vita for ffxi would be revolutionary. I mean an MMORPG game in a Hand held system? Sounds Epic!
lol Gotta get me one of those.

Yeah, PC is the best choice in any MMORPG in my opinion.
But I prefer to play on xbox360 than a Computer.

I'm not a PC kinda guy, I use mac and I don't plan to install any games for it since I use my mac for Work/School.
I'm not a tech guy so I only know the basics, thats about it.

I mentioned it would be nice if there upgrade it from ps2 to ps3 because then there would be keeping to there ideals of creating a mmorpg that's cross region and platform.

As for been crap, that's only if there just used a ps2 version of there code to play on the ps3 rather than recode it all for the ps3.

I also play this on the pc, its is better, but would be nice to have this on the ps3 as well.

As for ps2 emulation on the ps3, not had a problem with it at all.
But mine is a hybrid hardware/software emulation on my ps3.

SE should be giving us the results of the survey. They made us take the time out to take the survey, they should only do the same in return and give us the results.

That's like asking them how TH really works, will never know and they may only release the info in the annual like a few others have said but its unlikely, will have to wait and see.
