View Full Version : Bidding farewell

Today, I bade farewell to a long-time friend. The first and only MMO I have ever played and for over 5 years has become a world of selfishness, greed, constant complaining and one -upmanship and I can no longer bring myself to be a part of it.
I have loved every last moment, at least until the last year or so. I choose to remember all the wonderful moments of discovery, the delight and joy over the negative. Bastok Mines, Shadow Lord, Bahamut, The Tavnazian Safehold and Prishe, CoP, AN, ToAU 44, Kirin, Dark Lord, Einherjar all among my favorite memories and all worth every second of time spent.
I value and continue the many friendships made, am sorry if I made some people mad but we always got over ourselves. :)
My view point is always and always will be that these games are meant to be enjoyed for fun and relaxation, they are not real life jobs that you can put on your resume. Live the journey, live it well and when it’s time to leave, be done and move on. One day, you will regale your grand-kids with tales of derring-do sitting in your armchairs.
Thank you SE. From my perspective, you have done a wonderful job with this very unique MMO. You have made me mad a couple of times, but still good job.
Good luck to everyone with the new update. I am just wondering who will be first to 95 all jobs all servers.......:)

Abyssea turned out a lot more douchebags than the old hnm end game, every two bit gimp now can get good gear and empyrean weapons and they all think there hot stuff.
Bring back world spawns i say :D.

The only reason world spawns kept out gimps, is because you could only get things like E body once every 3 days on each server.
It isn't, wasn't, and never will be an attestation of skill

This is sadly the case now, the vast majority of players were considered casual back in the day...the remaining small portion that did serious endgame was filled almost entirely with aholes (as provoen by the disgusting HNM community). Now they made endgame more accessable almost anything with a pulse can get the best gear, so the ahole ratio has become rather epic (almost to wow standards), usually people that think having +2 and an emp is something impressive.
As for OP, although I agree with you to a point it's really hard to find anything even slightly on par with XI. I tried a lot of MMO's and nothing came close, so as much as it pains me to agree with what some are saying...you probably will be back before too long. When you really do quit a game you know your done, you won't make any goodbye posts and will lose total intrest in anything to do with the game, including forums etc.

So much this. I really don't know when these good old days were. I must have missed them. There were always bad, selfish, rude, leeching, etc. players.
Back in the HNM days I saw people ONLY log-in to lot on HNM drops. I saw leaders and other members treat their own fellow LS members like absolute crap. Linkshells despised each other, and the attacks would often get very personal. There were people who were carried by the rest of the LS simply because they were friends with the leaders. There were always cliques or individuals that never helped anyone but themselves.
What Abyssea did wasn't make people into selfish, greedy jerks, it just made people who were already selfish, greedy jerks not need the rest of us anymore. It didn't turn out more gimps, it's just with the lowman nature of the content the people who thought they were hot stuff don't have as many people to hide behind anymore. The problem isn't with Abyssea, it's with the people.

good for them! I'm happy for all the two bit gimp who think they are hot stuff. If ya can't be hot stuff in a game why bother?
Anyway to the OP good luck with you next adventure may life be everything you want it to be.

/sigh..... I used to be a real nice guy, helping old ladies across the street, and saving kittens from trees. But ever since I got abyssea, its been a non stop train of drugs, booze, women and crime.

How much did you even play? I've never seen you around on Sylph. Also, give me your gear and money, that way it'll be harder to start playing again.

I for one enjoy the way it is now, took 5 years to get a white box on my duelist chap, just as long to get a good refresh body. I personally got tired of playing a game where the main thing that determined whether or not you got gear was dumb luck.

Ah yes. Back when blacks and womens had no rights, the world was on the cusp of mass genocide of a different flavor than jew, fear of being blown up by an atom bomb gripped your every day life and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was just a young man in the senate.
those were the days I tell ya

Yeah. Effort did not equal rewards before Abyssea. Now it does. That is what I really like about this game now.

If you're bidding farewell to a game, then you should just do it. No one else cares if you quit or not. Posting here sends the message that you're coming back, in fact probably later today- Who the heck quits the day before an update?
People who quit and announce it on a forum always come back. The only people who really truly quit don't make announcements about it.

A large number of people that get geared in the best endgame gear instantly think they are better players than everyone else and turn into asshats (not all but it seems to taint a lot of people in that way). Thats the only bad thing about anyone being able to get to the top tier when it used to be a very select few, the top tier asshats of old FFXI used to stick to themsleves and hate on the small endgame community as it existed (hnm camps, opposing shells etc)...now it's spread all around to everyone in all areas of the game.
So it's changed from a small group of endgamers hating, mocking and despising each other which was mostly unknown to normal players to a large portion of the entire game being that way.

They were always asshats. They just kept it undercover because they still needed things from people.

Unfortunate to see you go. Your posts were helpful for the part I saw them at least, and not having them will be a loss. Not that we know each other much, perhaps a shame, but that's what I thought.
If one day you do return, I will be one of those to bid thee welcome back. And if thou do not (and even you do), then I wish you all the best of luck with your future endeavours, whatever they might be! :]
Good luck!

Too bad nobody without a big megashell or sitting on a few hundred million gil is going to see a lvl 95 let alone a lvl 99 emp lol.
Yes, I love this. Welcome back Tanaka I missed you.

In a year, maybe less, 95 emps will be a total joke. The only reason people are charging so much now is because they're new and retards will pay ridiculous prices to say "FIRST GAIS!!1!".
They're trade able and can drop 1-12 to each member of an alliance. You can also spam the event virtually endlessly.
Also, the reason there seemed to be less douchebags back in the days of giant HNMLS was because you had to have skill. Not skill in pralying the game so much as skill in personal interaction, which is what I miss most about the old days. You had to have some level of respect and charisma to get things done in a timely manner, whereas today you can go out and be a total piece of shit to anyone and everyone and get everything you want.
Hurray for VW however. Challenging, fun fights that require people to work together. It's what this game has been missing for a while now.

My view point is always and always will be that these games are meant to be enjoyed for fun and relaxation, they are not real life jobs that you can put on your resume.
But you announce your departure from a video game to the internet like you're resigning from the presidency?
It always strikes me as funny when someone does one of these farewells. I have over a hundred video games I have either finished or no longer have a desire to play and yet never once have decided the world needs to be informed I am no longer playing SOCOM 3.
Katamari Damacy... I have enjoyed playing you these past years but alas I must quit you. Your quirky songs and odd dialogue have entranced me but alas, the constant greedy obsession to collect everything has become a major distraction and I must relent to the pressures of the real world. My memories of you will always remain fond ones and I am sure I will one day tell my grandkids how I started a katamari from a mere tiny thumbtack and grew it into a giant ball of shyscrapers. /cry
