View Full Version : WAR on Kantana and Great Katana

So, i'll say it if it hasn't all ready been mention. How about some access to these weapons? I'm not saying take anything away from nin and sam by doing this. But some limit access to these and weapon skill's wouldn't be anything ground breaking. Both sam's and Nin's have had access to sword skills. I don't see why a war can't pick up either of these weapons and atleast have a "C" rating as well.

Forgive me if this has already been address, but I didn't see anything and I figured it wouldn't hurt to start another thread here. War's pretty sparse compare to most other threads.

simply because it would give war all red procs (not that they wont be able to get em by 99 with gear and merit)

Don't you think WAR has enough already? You can also get a Great Katana from a seasonal event, so that only leaves Katana. Just because SAM/NIN have access to Sword doesn't mean WAR should be entitled to everything.

Intil the day this game die's "No job will ever have enough" My thoughts aren't on proc's so much as having another option to skill weapons before getting into a new dd job. If keeping jobs unique in the form of procing is an issue? Trust me SE will see it stays that way. All i'm suggesting is access and "C" skills and a few of the common ws.

So let me get this right; You want WAR to additionally have native Great Katana & Katana skill so the day you ever decide to level either of them you already have an advantage by having capped skills to a point? With that logic then it should be spread across board of all jobs.

Skilling up weapons is such hard work these days, might as well give WAR access to Elemental Magic and the like so you could toss a nuke here and there for when you want to level BLM, or any magic casting job.

I say if it's a Melee weapon at all, WAR should have native combat skill with it, period. It looks sooOO right when I whip out my Wooden Katana (http://ffxi.gamerescape.com/wiki/Wooden_Katana) and start whacking stuff on WAR. I wouldn't mind having access to some of the higher damaging GKs and Katanas out there just for the fun of it. I know most will have a hard time believing that wielding other weapons on WAR beyond GA and Axe could equate to "fun", but I'm crazy like that I suppose.

The hard truth that no one wants to deal with is that WARs would most likely be better than SAMs and NINs at wielding Great Katanas and Katanas. I never really understood why WAR was denied access to GK and Katana when we have access to everything else. The fact that we have access to a Polearm has no diminishing effect on DRGs being every bit a DRG. Why not a GK or Katana? SAMs would still be kings of them with their access to top tier WS's, and the same goes for NINs. I say unlock our access.

Ok lets fix all the jobs so they can use all weapons. Then limit the weapon skill they can do with them. Remember pup used to have better h2h skills, then they nerfed it and made all the other weapons better. Nothing wrong with war getting what they want just nerf the skills they can do with it. Soon put a stop to all this nonsense.

War has always been the gateway job to other DD types, and a perfered sub for getting extra damage. Skilling up on war before you move on too drk or drg or any other job war has native skills too is a advantage too the job.

I assure you there's nothing gain if you don't put it out there and at least suggest it. Which is what these forums are for. War has the follow
B+ in Great sword and Scythe
B in Staff and sword
B- in Pole arm, Club and Dagger
D in H2H, Archery, Marksmanship and Throwing
It doesn't break any of these jobs that have a A+ skill in them. If allowing war access to a "C" skill rating in Katana and G.Katana breaks sam and nin in theirs?! I don't know what to say. The absolute worst thing I can see coming out of a thing like this is having a real nice Katana or G. Katana with war/nin/sam on it driving the value sky high due to demand.

War's don't have a lot to bicker about these days, so if you feel you need to pick this apart go for it. Or give context to why it's such a bad idea. Just don't yell bad idea. If you support it, do the same. Thanx Kingfury for chiming in. I appreciate your input.

I can appreciate that this is a forum and suggestions are what it's for, but it just doesn't seem necessary to give the job that already has the most native combat skills the rest of them.

I'm not prepared to bicker over it, I already have my opinion on what SE's answer would be.

I am always up for something different. Polearm was a nice suprise on war when bird camps was popular, but I don't see how Katana or Great Katana can offer any benefits. However, If this option is open to us in the future, it will be interesting to see what We can do.

What's the point of this? Just to proc easier? I don't mind that really but other than procs there is no point.

Giving NIN Scythe and GS is probably more beneficial anyway, as WAR can't solo for shit

Give them a competent WHM and they can duo most anything.

Crunching the numbers.. looks like it can be done with WAR/NIN @ lv.99:

For GK you'll need extra 36 skill to reach "Tachi: Koki" so...
- Merits [+16 max.]
- Bushinomimi [+5]
- Kengo Hachimaki (or Fazheluo Helm) [+5 or +6]
- Moepapa Annulet [+5]
- Justice Torque [+7]
- Any event GK (e.g. Lotus katana, Shinai, etc)

For Katana you'll need extra 25 skill to reach "Blade:Ei", so...
- Merits [+16 max]
- Kanja Hachimaki [+5]
- Tjukurrpa Ring [+5]
- Hope Torque [+7] (not needed if capped merits)
- Trainee Burin
