This is extremely useful, and with a mobile app version in the works...
http://guildwork.com/games/ffxi/shouts
It just seems wrong to have to pay a 3rd party for this sort of product when it could be done, and most likely have more options with proper access to SE's servers.

Hmmm... this uses third party applications.

So does ffxiah.com, yet SE never shuts them down...

I wonder how they REALLY feel about windower?

Jealously is the word that comes to mind.

I still refuse to use 3rd party apps out of general fear of the banhammer. Well that & the game is easy enough to play without them.

I'm sure they arn't TOO happy about it. But they would rather people use it and keep playing than get rid of it and lose the majority of their PC playerbase.

do you use AH wiki or any other online guide outside of the 2004 official brady guide?

Heres your Wiki
http://www.amazon.com/Fantasy-Official-Strategy-Spring-Version/dp/0744003687/ref=pd_sim_b_3
and your maps
http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XI-Atlas-Kern/dp/0744004012/ref=pd_sim_b_1

use of anything else is 3rd party.

Either way this is a discussion on how I'd like SE to implement a chat engine link outside of game proper as these people have done, and not yet another thread derail into the pros/cons of 3rd party UI use.

Being able to glance down at my droid / tablet to see what shouts are in jeuno while farming in aby or from work would be hella cool. I guess with dual screen setup you could leave the webpage open on 2nd screen.

Well there's your problem.

It's not an iPhone/iPad

There's a different between using guildworks.com and ffxiah.com than a real 3rd party program. But really, the kind of popular widowers I see people using are safer and a far FAR cry from botting programs that actually plays the full game for them without them on at the pc. SE will never get around to doing something like. No company has I think.

Side note, ffxiah.com/shouts works like a charm on my ipod so I'm not complaining.

Honestly I think SE really doesn't care about the basic windower. All it's really doing is letting you see party+ally member's TP, alliance MP, distance between you and your target, enemy's HP %, and unlimited macro lines. Nothing game breaking there, most of that stuff should've been in vanilla ffxi anyway, and only wasn't because of bad initial programming concerning the PS2.

I only use Bradygames' strategy guide for FFXI. It's all I need to be the best war/pld in the game :).
