In some cases, if the macro pallets are partially written (corrupted, notably from no disk space) or missing from the USERS\<uniqueid> folder, the game can segfault.

Renaming/moving the specific user folder fixes the problem, but determining which folder it is is not always trivial.

Some better exception handling could be here.

-----

If the game is terminated under certain conditions (notably no disk space) the folder and it's contents;

C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\default

Can be lost. This will cause the windows installer to attempt to correct the problem on startup, but invariably fail as the targets are missing.

While the windows installer service is taking the correct action by trying to restore the files, POL viewer should not be modifying the folder structure during normal operations.

----

Also, the ffximain.dll binary tries to access a file repeatedly pre-character login during normal oeprations. I lost track of the name, but it's something like info02.dat. It seems very fond of this file, and very confused that it doesn't exist, and thus spends quite a few CPU cycles searching it's heart out.

If you believe there is an ongoing issue with FINAL FANTASY XI, we’d like to help fix it. The best way to do that is by submitting this as a bug in our In-Game Bugs (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/forums/80-In-Game-Bugs) section of this forum. We’re glad you’re bringing this to our attention and look forward to any thoughts you may have in the future.
