Hello this just my 2 cents. I started this game way back in 2004 on ps2 i preordered the hard drive and everything else was so happy when it finaly came. As the yrs rolled by then i kinda changed from playing on ps2 to PC and even tryed on PS3 and Xbox 360. I myself realy dont wonna see the game end on the ps2 die but if he had too I think SE should remake the game in HD for the ps3. If you take something away then you should give something back. I'm pretty sure you can get a bigger hdd for the ps2 if room is the issue but realy there isnt alot of stuff that use's the ps2 hdd. I myself still do have alot of room on my ps2's hdd. The game takes 12 gigs i belive the hdd is 40 i have my Socom U.S Navy Seals maps on it and then Resident Evil outbreak which isnt online anymore. And i still have about 10gigs left. Thats alot of room for updates and what not. I dont know... i think it would realy cool the see an update on the ps3 for this game xbox got dont see why ps3 cant get one I'd buy it :3

I was surprised to see the PS3 itself listed in the recent survey, but I still don't see there being much chance for a native PS3 client. Too much time has passed and there's too little potential money in it for a real return of investment.
I could see it being a download-only offering for back-compat PS3 models, but it's been years since they made those (and all the remaining ones have the YLOD).
Even if we weren't talking about a 9 year old relic of a game, we need to remember that 95% of their MMO development budget is going towards That Other Game.

The hard drive capacity isn't the issue. The biggest problem is the PS2's tiny, impossible-to-increase RAM. It only has 32MB of it. >_> Even the 360 has 512MB.

And dropping the PS2 won't change the fact that all other versions are ports of the original PS2 version and will need to be rewritten from scratch regardless to do most of the things you want it to do.

That is a Lie. You have No Idea how the code is written. SE has all ready blamed a bunch of different game limitations on PS2 memory and storage issues. I don't think anybody is expecting a new battle system, High Definition 3-d graphics and THX surround. Most people just want basic functionality like a better auto-translate library, more storage, new skins and possibly (Ghasp!) a bandwidth increase from 56k. Quit spreading FUD.
I doubt they will make it for PS3 though because there is little chance for return on investment.

I myself realy dont wonna see the game end on the ps2 die but if he had too I think SE should remake the game in HD for the ps3.They made FFXIV instead of doing this.
They considered a rerelease (would not be in "HD") for the PS3 but sony wouldn't allow it without an HD upgrade and SE doesn't want to devote the resources that would be necessary to achieve that.
They ARE apparently porting the game to the Vita, however.

That is a Lie. You have No Idea how the code is written.
Proving that would require decompiling the code, which is totally against the license agreement/ToS/etc. Just like Windower.
But even discounting that, there's Occam's Razor. The PS2 code was written nearly a year before the PC version, and even at launch it was cheaper and easier to port the PS2 version than to write a dedicated PC client from scratch.
Everything else being a port of the PS2 version also explains a lot of idiosyncrasies, like the separate RGB corrections in other versions as well as the many graphical glitches (e.g. airship jumping to the dock at the last second rather than docking smoothly) that do not occur in the PS2 version.
Insisting that the PC and Xbox clients were built from the ground up is like claiming the bailing wire, duck tape and Bondo are stock features. Technically possible, but... no.

I said that you don't know how the code is written. Which you don't. Also, I don't think "decompiling" means what you think it does.

I never said they were built from the ground up. The code is not the limitation in may cases. All of the things I listed as desired improvements are Limited by the PS2 Hardware, not the PS2 code.
And dropping the PS2 won't change the fact that all other versions are ports of the original PS2 version and will need to be rewritten from scratch regardless to do most of the things you want it to do.So let's all just pack our bags and go home!

Just because the clients are ports, doesn't mean they'd be incapable of using more than 32MB of RAM... lol. >_>
I mean, shoot, the most recent updates GAVE US upgrades to graphics that can't work on the PS2. Direct, irrefutable proof that it's the hardware, not the software.

It would be really easy and cheap to bring FFXI out for the ps3 and for it to look hugely better than the PS2 version.
It would sell really well too, current pc players woudl like a console version to relax with or dual box, old players would probably be tempted back etc.

It would be really easy and cheap to bring FFXI out for the ps3 Actually, no, it would not be cheap or easy.
-Sony requires PS3 remakes of previous system games to get an HD make over, so pay art dept. to upgrade all the textures in the entire game
-the PS3 has a totally different archetcture from the PS2, so pay the programmers to port the not very portable engine over to the ps3.
The reason they are able to consider the vita is is less dissimilar from PS2 archecture and doesn't necessitate the HD makeover.
Again, there was a reason they chose to build a new game rather than upgrade the one they already had (though when they started they did not think FFXI would stay strong for so long)
current pc players woudl like a console version to relax withNo, they wouldn't. You can just connect your PC to a TV and use a gamepad. Sit on couch, grab a beer. Bam, instant console experience.

Based on how SE never lived up to it's original FFXIV publicity about PS3 access, i`m not holding my breath this survey will bring anything good to PS3 users of this game.
