to players new and old, if you'd like to get the most out of your ffxi experience and plan to make a dedicated character to take endgame: then fantasyfirst may be a linkshell for you. if you enjoy traditional leveling with balanced parties as oppose to "book burning", join! if crafting interests you in anyway but seems daunting to start, join. if you take your time fishing, chocobo raising, furnishing your mog house, getting the best gear, leveling in style... join!

currently based in San d'Oria, began by a crafting elvaan, fantasyfirst is an attempt to gather players with style who enjoy dabbling in all that ffxi has to offer. although some members focus on leveling, my focus has been on crafting. i hope to take a craft to 100 and have sub crafts at 60 before i even begin leveling. i've taken the time to do this to reap the benefits while i level. some say crafting is dead, but i enjoy it a lot.

new players are encouraged to join. as i level my crafts, i can make more and more gear. which means free gear for new players who are in the throes of the lower levels. this can allow you to focus your gil spending on a lot of other things to do in ffxi. i enjoy supporting new players in this way and promise any member of fantasyfirst that we'll all share the spoils of our labor in-game!

loftier dreams await! once i've met people, we {Gather together.} and things feel right... i dream of having dedicated parties who can schedule notorious monster hunts, burning circle/orb runs, limit breaks, artifact/relic armor and then endgame activities. this is not for the faint of heart: fantasyfirst is for the player who wishes to take his or her time and have an enveloping, entertaining rise to the top!

Edit: As far as timezones, we are still in our infancy so its kind of sporadic. I've seen people on in the morning. I work overnight myself but I can play some at work and there are some people on during the daylight hours.

fantasyfirst is just beginning to grow. with around 15 members, it's still a bit quiet, but members are accomplishing things together.

current activities include: unlocking advanced jobs, raising chocobos, beginning crafting, learning how to make gil... haha! soon, with more members, we'll begin chains of promathia missions.

I am coming back from almost a decade of not playing, and decided to try out the 9.99 deal that includes everything with ffxi. So I am starting new, but i have a small bit of experience already, yet most stuff probably hasn't changed. I am wanting a linkshell that is not just focused on gear but content and everything there is. I recently started over as well after a little break after a five year run. I miss the days when people actually played and grouped and had fun doing it. Almost broke my heart to see two people in the dunes the other day without the sounds of aggro, death and spammed cure spells.
I always enjoyed helping new players with OP and Tele-Crystal runs, Rank Missions, Farming and just going on a joyful murder spree for the sake of doing something together. I made a thread in the general forums earlier about looking for a linkshell or group of people that like to play the more old fashioned, casual way instead of the Abyssea leeching, speed leveling that seems to be the norm now. I know it might be an acceptable way to level now, but it's just not for me. It's way more rewarding to do the leveling yourself, imo.

That said, I was hoping that maybe you guys were still active and recruiting? I'd love to have some like-minded friends to play the game with. I'm on Bismark right now, but I just made my character, so I can easily switch. The hardest part will be deciding on a new name, as mine is already taken...by me on an older account :p.

I've recently re-subbed myself and like the idea of actually grouping up and doing things, instead of "book burning", as it's put in the opening post. I started playing FFXI with the US PC launch and part of what really "hooked" me on the game was the idea of grouping up with others to hunt mobs, do quests, etc.

Over time, as SE made the game more solo/duo friendly I started to see that sorta slipping away and it became harder and harder to get any kind of group activity going. Everyone just wanted to do FoV stuff, etc. Then of course came the Astral Burn parties so people could PL up that way. Finally, there was Abyssea, which was the final nail in the coffin for me, for reasons that have certainly been well-discussed by now. I gave it a few tries, trying to keep an open mind, but it just didn't do it for me.

I moved to Phoenix on the promise of a new LS starting up that sought to do things the "old-fashioned way". No Astral burn parties. No power-leveling. Just good old group-based xp parties, questing parties, etc. You know, that whole Adventuring thing that so many loved FFXI for. The idea lasted for a bit, until some people in the LS got infected with the "Abyssea bug" and got a taste of leeching free xp in there. The infection spread, 'til the LS ultimately fell apart and disbanded.

After that, I had pretty much given up on XI entirely. It wasn't the game I played for those years and loved.

Lately I've been seeing murmurs of SE adding more content, or of people otherwise grouping up and doing content outside of Abyssea, doing quests and such. I decided to see if, maybe, I could find a group that was really sticking to this, on either Phoenix, or Asura. Since Pandemonium was my original "home" for all those years, my idea is to come back here. If I can find a good, solid LS to join and try to recapture at least some of what I used to enjoy about the game, then it would be worth the transfer fee. Easily. Otherwise, I may as well stay on Phoenix and try my luck there.

Anyway!

I like the sound of this LS, so I'll be looking for someone in-game :)
