View Full Version : Fixing Port Jeuno Congestion

I think SE has in the pipes already a fix that will allow players access to abyssea from the 3 main cities and linked Auction Houses to help remove the congestion in port jeuno but i really feel this will only remove a minimal amount of stress that this zone is seeing as it will still be the main zone to see shouts and as such the main zone to create pick up parties.
What I feel will certainly remove the stress from port Jeuno and will also make forming pick up groups so much faster is a server wide shout channel that can only be used once every 3 minutes and only after level 30 for the use of creating pick up parties. SE could make it as simple as just an ability that every job learns at level 30. If this is implemented along with linking the AHs and also adding abyssea teleport access in the 3 main cities i would be more then happy to spend my time sitting in Bastok, my home nation, rather then Jeuno or Whitegate. I feel this is something SE should really look into and at this point in the game i feel the players base and the game its self is ready for this change to take place in order to better the productivity of FFXI as a whole and in no way would hinder or break anything in existence at this current time.
So please SE, PS2 limitations permitting, consider this as an option for the better of FFXI as a whole.

Oh how I could see this being abused....even with the 3 minute thing.

Just like shout now is. wont be any different in abuse just be more limited b/c of the 3 min timer.

Except now you can zone into your Mog House or simply not idle in Port Jeuno to avoid 99% of stupid shouts. I don't even want to think about how badly that could be abused.

There is also a blacklist and filters and this certainly would not replace normal zone shouts. For you people who feel this would somehow ruin your peace have you thought about how much better it would make the game?

Oh, this is like what I posted...
It's not a fix to congestion per se. It's a huge help to everything requiring grouping up or trading.
I like this idea. Or perhaps just limit it to non-combative areas.

"Somehow ruin your peace" is the understatement of the century. Sorry, I'll pass on 24/7 access to the Whitegate-Lemming-News-Show.
A more practical solution to the issue would be the enhancement of the /sea system. This is, of course, assuming people actually bother to use specific Seacoms. There are already Mission, Quest, and Buy/Sell seacoms in the game. They're simply not widely utilized because the process of searching for people with these seacoms is fairly obtuse. If /sea was tweaked to allow for additional query tags like:
/sea all invite Mission
/sea all invite EXP
/sea region invite Quest
They may end up worth using, and would serve the same purpose as your server-wide shouts.
So filter it then. I don't see how it'll be abused any more than the shout channel in Port Jeuno.
I like the search idea too!
As long as it's filterable, this shouldn't be an issue - or provide Horst and Joachim 5 minute auto-MH warp aura <.<

I use my filters because nothing good ever comes from shouts. For the love of Altana, don't implement server-wide shouts, you are just begging the RMT to come back en mass.

I just wish seacoms were more widely used. ^^;
But I can understand why they aren't... When you search seacom types you can only see them by the area you're in. I wish they worked worldwide at times.

I think you certainly draw a point in no combative areas. i could see how this would encourage people to save a great deal of time and just sit in abyssea with that time and organize everything without ever leaving the zone. Maybe this would be a good thing as well as there would be one person with capped lights during most pick up groups if it become a trend to shout form abyssea. Certainly this should be filtered to some areas such as the moghouse and instanced BCNM-type battles and similar areas.

/sea all invite Mission
/sea all invite EXP
/sea region invite Quest
The issue with this is just simple if i listed everything that i was interested to do at any given time i would need a lot more then just the 3 lines given in any /seacom so instead i spend my time sitting in port jeuno waiting for a shout. This is creating in port jeuno the lag effect that we see today because its not just me doing this its the majority of everyone on any server even if they are afk. With server wide shouts and the merging of AHs and addiction of Abyssea NPCs in each city there would be more then one small area to stand and wait in and that is what will solve the problem of the stress in PJ.

Use the Looking for Party feature that's built into the game. Inputting comments that relate to what you're looking to do. Then flag up.
Have people lost the ability to /sea all 85-90 inv ?
(Sorry if someone else already pointed this out...)

As long as it's filterable, this shouldn't be an issue - or provide Horst and Joachim 5 minute auto-MH warp aura <.<No, Horst is only one of the two bad congestion spots. The other is the Mog House Entrance. Don't need EVEN MORE people afking by MH entrance.
If this new shout function extended to all of the zones in the current zone region (IE: All of Jeuno if you're in Jeuno, or All of Bastok if you're in Bastok) and had a limit on how many times you could use it it could be worthwhile. This would leave all the idiots shouting annoying crap to continue doin so in Port Jeuno whilst I could set my home point in Lower, Upper or Ru'Lude and see only the worthwhile shouts.
Sure, it would see abuse when it's first implemented - people will go "Ooh new feature, must use it" and shout random crap, but that would die out after a while.
The other option would be to just make 2 separate shout channels and reserve one just for pickup shouts. That way all the idiots can argue on the other channel and anyone who doesn't care can filter that channel and just use the 1st shout channel. If that makes sense.

The simpilest way to relive the congestion is to reinstate the bazaar tax since most of the people there are seller accounts.
I like the search idea over the shout idea. But, don't you still have to go to Port Jueno to talk to the NPC to get stones? If so, I see that as a reason that people will still congregate in Port. Port Jeuno just became the new Whitegate is all. I think it is funny to go to Whitegate now and only see maybe 30 people there. The sad part is, even with fewer people, Whitegate still seems to lag a bit. I guess it's just the area o.O

Whitegate still seems to lag a bit. What's lag? I keep hearing people talk about it.
What's lag? I keep hearing people talk about it.
It's when time stands still :D
I probably notice lag more than most because I dual box and have my second character /follow my main. It's annoying because she will stop on her screen because she thinks my main is standing still because of the lag. So I have to stop my main to wait for her to catch up. This is really only an issue in Whitegate because of going up and down stairs. There are also some curious spots in San d'Oria that I have noticed will stop her every time. Mainly around the exit from Southern San d'Oria to Northern San d'Oria. Both regions near that exit seem to have some stall spots.

I like the search idea. And I want to throw another idea idea because /seacom is... mmm, somewhat limited.
If I could open a window, input a zone area, and see the text of what is being shouted, who shouted it, and when it was shouted, I'd be all over it. It be just like browsing these forums for a thread that seems interesting to talk about. Once I find a shout that looks interesting, I'd click on it and it would show me the entire message, and up in the corner would be the options to talk to the shouter (Tell, Send Message, Invite). For new shout messages to be seen, it will probably work like "Wide Scan," where you would have to refresh the window to see new shouts. So instead of waiting in wherever is the hot spot for shouts are, I can be out in the field, waiting for my NM to pop, and in between respawn times, I'll check this new chat log window to see what's going on.

I don't know why they put the NPC in Port in the first place...as if the airships don't lag people enough
