View Full Version : Scroll Prices, alternate methods of obtaining

As we all know, at one point the economy was terrible due to the work of gilsellers at causing massive inflation. This has been solved for some time now, but several items seem to have forgotten to deflate in price.
I speak here of two specific scrolls that come primarily from BCNM40s: Phalanx, and Utsusemi: Ni. Although the problem also applies to some other items. This is a huge problem for people that are leveling their first job through this range, and in fact is kind of bizarre that they still persist at the high point of their price range.
Here's what I think, these items should continue to stay in the BCNM 40 drop table as they are, however, there should be alternate methods to obtain them.
A great way to do this would be to implement a Magian Trial that works similar to job emote/neck piece trial. Gather up several R/Ex items in return for either outright learning the spell, or for a R/Ex version of the scroll. People who have money get to continue buying things because it's easier for them, and people who don't can now quest for the scrolls that were previously beyond reach.
I agree with you at some point because once everyone was a n00b doesn't have a lot of gil, but BC scrolls are always higher than the others and it has nothing to do with RMT (assuming they don't do BC); and I don't understand what keep you from doing any of the BC you've mentioned above, Phalanx and Utsu2 BC only need 3 blms and the drop rate is fair.
Besides, farming is never easier and most people are too lazy to farm; therefore AH price on raw material is considerably high.
If SE are to do ra/ex scroll, people will come back complaining everyone is camping those trial NM/mobs.
They're not inflated because of RMT. They're inflated because of level increase and subjob shifts towards rdm and nin. Lots of people who didn't have /rdm before are leveling it now, and same with /nin.

If you're a RDM, then either grab a couple of level 40 DRGs and do Royal Jelly, or grab a couple of level 40 NINs and/or BLUs and do Under Observation. Both BCNMs are super-easy as long as you have decent gear (not even top-notch expensive stuff) and intelligence. Read up on strategies on the Wiki and you'll see.
They're also going up because a lot of people simply don't have a need to do BCNMs anymore because of the other methods to get gil that Abyssea brings, and beastmen seals don't drop in Abyssea so they aren't as prevalent as they used to be. The price is deceptively high for how easy to obtain those scrolls actually are. Demand got higher than supply so the prices skyrocketed. Don't think that just because something is sold on the AH, you have to buy it.

The systems fine as it is and everyone has their own fair chance in bcnms. You dont have to pay for any item in this game with gil, you just have to not be lazy and work for it. If you make everything as easy as the /emote quest then what will be the point of playing the game for a challenge.
Phalanx also increased in AH price because it was added to PLD recently. It was dirt cheap to buy from other players before that.

As we all know, at one point the economy was terrible due to the work of gilsellers at causing massive inflation.Actualy the economy was better during the inflation. The average player could make a "living wage" in the game at the time. Now it's a struggle to stay over 100k w/o hemeraging cruor into gil or being a bastard LS that sells 100% drops for 1-10m.
I have been leveling 2 new characters since the experience point boost. I'm taking up RDM and PLD. Last week, I dual boxed along with a friend and we did 9 runs on the RJ. I got Ice Spikes, Refresh and Utsusemi:Ni. I still need Erase and 2 Phalanx :( I thought in 9 runs I would get more than just 3 of the scrolls I need. Now this probably wouldn't be a big deal, but you also have to realize that each character went through 120 beastman seals to do 9 runs. Now I need to go out and get more beastmen seals so I can do some more runs. New people are not going to have an endless supply of beastman seals either. On a side note, has anyone noticed a drop in the rate of obtaining beastmen seals lately? It just seems I don't get as many as I used to.
So to the OP, I agree, it would be nice to have some other way of obtaining these scrolls.

Not really. I used to make around 500k-1m per day (~150k-200k/hr average) without ever trying to make gil, or even using cruor. Chest drops alone give tons of gil in abyssea. Honestly, it was harder to spend it than to make it.

Everything was inflated, but scrolls were around 500K-1mil during the worst of it. At that time beehive chips were selling at ~16k/stack and silk thread was around 50K. Now the scrolls are still in the inflated price range, but beehive chips are selling at ~4k/stack and thread at 7k/stack.
For a 750k item, that's 187.5 stacks of beehive chips or 107 stacks of silk thread.
Obviously these aren't the best farmables, but they're available to everyone no matter what character level, so I'm using them as a baseline.
To the person who commented "as easy as the jobemote quest" I didn't say to make them easy, just so that a level appropriate character has a way to obtain a scroll that isn't quite as crazy as it is now.
Ever since I started this game 7-8 years ago BC/Quest scrolls are always higher than the others simply because it takes work (level, battles, luck) to obtain.

I don't see the complaint. With most end-game gear dropping from mobs in abyssea, and weapons are done through trials/drops as well, this would tell me there are less items being bought on the AH/Bazzars and now there is more gil in the average adventurers pockets. Since the opening of abyssea, I know have over 10-12 mil in my pocket whereas before I was buying crap left and right and could barely keep a few hundred thousand gil in my pocket.
I love how Rog put it:
"Honestly, it was harder to spend it than to make it."

What you said is "Endgame people make tons of money, therefore it's okay to screw newbies."

How much money do newbies really need? Crystals alone can probably cover most of their costs anymore.
