Wouldn't it be great if Dancer had it's own unique weapon?
My suggestion would be dual battle fans.
They could be even faster than daggers, just slightly less attack power with other effects added onto them.

For some reason I'm imagining these code/skillwise as Daggers that are slashing instead of piercing as a hidden effect.

I would like to see hand to hand and staff boosted to B+. that would allow us to proc something that Thief can't. It would also play well into dancer theme. Would open up a lot of play style and opportunity without overpowering DNC.

I would enjoy some more h2h skill/weapon skills just to fit into the lore.
I like the concept of fans, but I imagine they would still be classified as daggers, can't see SE making a new weapon class this late in the game.

I kinda like the big glaive thing that Penelo has in the DS sequel for ffxii (the revenant wings one) fans would be nifty too, and failing both of those, I'd love to see a boost to our H2H skill...dancing in battle is more of a martial arts thing irl anyway.

I never could quite figure out why SE gave DNC hand-to-hand skill at such a low rank. Also.. the NPC dancers (Well at least the ones wearing the AF since DNC NPCs don't seem to know how to actually be a DNC 99% of the time) in the campaign areas use hand-to-hand but it's next to worthless for you to use it...
As for fans, it seems like it'd be a pretty interesting thing to have, but I don't see it happening for reasons already stated above, lol.

In FF Tactics, dancers used purses to bash enemies over the head. I for one would love to see Galka dancers with a purse!
Seriously tho, the fan is a great idea for a slashing dagger type.

Show me dancers that regularly use whips that you don't have to be 18 or older to watch. Only then will I be on board with this idea.
Also, PS2 limitations. :D

I would like fans as well, daggers that do slashing dmg. Our hth is way too low to be practical, but, skeletons laugh at our stabbing on every level.

because batons are for flamers? :P No, but seriously, they should boost our Hand-to-hand Skill to a usable level, add fans to the dagger section and batons to the staff section.

Thinking about it logically though, if they did this for DNC, they'd have to do it for all the other jobs. So it'd be a huge project.

I think even giving them kick attacks with a dagger would be amazing, it would seem more "Dancer" like or new dances to where you actually move unlike Fan Dance, Saber Dance, etc~ Wouldn't it be something to see a Dancer Axe kick like Shiva~ Even if it was finishing move active-

to be honest a whip will never ever happen ever. SE would have to do cloth effects to make a whip work which they will not do because this game lacks collision maps the whips would tare through the ground your character ie everything. and if they were to try with out using cloth effects they'd need to add a lot more skeletal weights to character models to make them function with fluidity which i don't foresee SE ever doing nor wanting to do.

Dancer's Mythic weapon seems kind of fan like. And it would be cool to have a unique class of weapon, it wouldn't be so bad to do, someone already meantioned scimitars for Blue Mage, and White Mage has hammers, Dragoons have lances. Can't think of anymore but they probably exist. It's not bad to add a weapon type to a job, just make the weapon and have only certain jobs equip the one of that type.
And I don't know why Jamesy but that sig makes me laugh so much.

I do believe it would be large project. Not just because of the who unique weapon thing, but because I would consider it a bit excessive to increase their abilities of hand to hand, allow the use of staves, on top of providing unique weapons of daggers and staves just for DNC. When PUP got their Hand to hand raised, it only raised the skill. No unique weapons were suddenly added for them. Same for BLU. BLU has always had its static sword skill so there was no huge change to them getting scimitars.
Don't get me wrong, I love DNC and would welcome this sort of variety to their weapon usage, but it would probably be too much to expect such a huge change for one job and then expect other jobs not to complain about it.

Making a new model of daggers, that look like fans would probably take maybe.... 5 minutes. Adding some new staves that look like batons....5 more minutes. Hand-to-Hand.... have you seen some of the wacky looking new h2h weapons monk has now?
Whips? I don't know, it might take a little more work, but seriously.... did you see all the stupid job specific animations they added just for fun without anybody asking for them? I don't think swinging a whip is any harder to program than making a ninja surf on top of a giant frog.

I don't even want the whips, I actually think Daniel is right about the hoops, but your seriously making it sound like its way more complicated than it is. Do you honestly think that they can't just program an animation? It wouldn't look any more broken than the animations they already have for weapons. If you don't want a new weapon, just say you don't.

Here's my thoughts; like em or not, up to yall. H2H on dnc, they either need to update and enhance, or remove entirely. Honestly IMO I don't really see where H2H fits with dnc in the first place. As far as the debate over whips go, if you think about it logically, that would actually fall more along the lines of Beastmaster. Fans would be awesome, I can even see one or two that would Augment Fan Dance (duh), or even better, allow a new weapon skill under the effects of Fan Dance while using a fan. Twin Hoops I could see happening, as dnc could use those fluidly, and wouldnt be much of a change to add such animations (just use a more continuous animation for dnc's existing JA animations, or shorter, one or the other.) Though, if they did this, may or may not require (hopefully require) a new set of weapon skills. Throwing IS the only attack skill that does not have a weapon skill set ANYWAY. Batons I could also see (sort of, reason following this comment), but if you go that indepth into it, other jobs complain, like bards wanting drums or something lol, i dunno. Also, to state my parenthesis comment on batons, the animations for weapon skills using batons just strikes me as wierd. The only fix for that would to be to add a weapon skill that fits baton style skills, since batons are considered different than traditional staves.
Just my thoughts, expand or bash as you wish.

Here's my take on the concept of combat fans for dancers, that I have thought would be very interesting and would dramatically change the job.
First and foremost, fans obviously can be dual wielded.
Second, when equipped with fans, a dancer no longer attacks. You heard me, the dancer doesn't attack.
Instead, Fan's have an extraordinarily high parry rate, and the dancer gains substantial amounts of TP on successful parries. At lower levels all the fans will have are traits like Waltz potency+, Emnitty+, tactical parry, etc etc.
But some of the higher tier, harder to obtain fans would have effects like Regain and countering.
Finally, counterattacks with fans would do substantial amounts of damage, as the fans have high damage for their "infinite" delay.
Eventually the concept of offhanding a fan as a form of psuedo combat shield becomes an option for a dancer, granting high tp gain and the ability to tank powerful enemies.
I don't think it would work well with post abyssea dancer, but back in the day it would've been a lot more viable. Nowadays dancer is less support and more DD, making these fans not as useful.
