View Full Version : PLEASE give us keys for caskets outside Abyssea!

This was mentioned about 4 months back one time regarding the addition of more caskets, but there was never any official reply. Please, giving us the option to key chests outside Abyssea would make the whole casket system way more appealing. It could also give us more reason to do GoV (use the tabs for keys, for instance).
Edit: Thanks for the input so far - added these further requests based on what had been mentioned.
Also, please consider implementing peeking inside of chests, maybe even using a disposable item purchased with tabs that costs a minimal amount to do so.
Lastly, THF should gain a reliable advantage to the system, also. Perhaps a 50% pop rate by using Thief Tools and if they fail they get a good hint?
Voice your opinions. Hopefully can get a solid consideration for this finally.

They'll likely tell you no for the same reason they said "no" to peeking inside Boxes.
Abyssea was given these things because its on a time limit, while outside We are not.
I like the idea, But i would not hold my breath. Personally i think they should throw THF a bone and allow them to Instantly open It with Thief's Tools.

I mean time limit to be inside Abyssea. Not on the boxes. Its their logic not mine.

Yeah, sorry I know what you meant, but it's another reason that they SHOULD let you peek and use keys. The chests still have the same time limit in abyssea but are much more of a pain in the butt. Should let you know you aren't wasting your time trying to open a box with a beastcoin in it.

Peeking and keys would only make the system more appealing to players. I wish S-E would understand this.

Can't help but wonder if the drop rates of the GOOD GoV drops are badly exaggerated because many, many of them probably end up vanishing into thin air because of BS hints that make the brown boxes a complete guess.

I'd rather see them sell KI with tabs that help open boxes/increase rewards, similar to abyssites inside of abyssea.

At least an option to destroy them (for all those frustrated with the opening) that give 10 Tabs.

hmmm... never noticed that THF's could get a free hint with tools (number is between x and y)... seems like a waste of a tool though. May as well have just not let them use tools at all if you aren't going to let them pick the lock.

I don't know, man. The ingredients in that seems suspect. I think everybody should know what's in that stuff.
Ingredients: ENRACHETED MACARENA PRODUCK (WHAT FLOWER, NISSAN, FURIOUS SOULFAT [IRAN], THEREMIN MONOCEROS [VITAMIN BEE 1], RIBSOFFLAVAFAV [VITAMIN BTOO], PHALLIC ASSID); CHESS SOURCE MINX (WAY, MIKEFAT, MIKE PROTEEN CONCENCENCENTRATE, BASALT, SODOM TRISAURATOPSHATE, CANTINS LASS THEN TO% OF SEETRICK ASSID, PROPHYLACTIC ASSID, SODOM FOESFATE, CONDOMINIUM FOESFATE, YELLOH FIFE, YELLOH SEECKS, INZYIMES, CHEESS COUTURE). CANTINS: WHAT, MIKE?
I know I wouldn't eat any of that stuff! Worst of all, I don't even know this "Mike" guy.

Honestly, I think the time limited nature of Abyssea is only part of the reason and more like just how they continue to evolve certain things, much like if you take a gander at the sky in Vanilla areas, versus zilart areas, versus CoP areas, versus ToAU areas, versus WoTG areas and finally Abyssea's sky, you'll notice as time goes on they change up designs and even add quirks and features not present to a similar aspect.
The keys would have to balance itself out in some way. Abyssea's Forbidden Keys are balanced given they only serve absolutely one purpose and can't even be used anywhere but abyssea. The whole Thief key set are also balanced, even if it's a bit excessive (mimics or the new lolitrollu coffers)..so yeah it would need to have a type of balance, which I think is the main stopping point for this compared to "no peeking for you!"

As interesting as it sounds to have keys for Treasure Caskets outside of Abyssea, it's very unlikely that SE would implement that into the game, as Karbuncle stated early we don't have any time restrictions/limits in areas with Treasure Caskets. Giving us a challenge I suppose to open these caskets.

It has nothing to do with being "hard" to figure out the codes. First, it's a huge time expenditure that takes away from any other actions. This is especially true in party scenarios, and it looks like S-E wants us to do more party activities outside Abyssea. Secondly, there are plenty of scenarios where you can't get any closer than a 1/2, 1/3, or even 1/4 chance of opening a chest if you get unlucky with the hints that are given. To me, picking a number between 1 and 4, because more reasonable hints weren't given, isn't what I'd consider fun. I'm sure plenty of people feel the same way. While I respect that they had originally intended to make these caskets a mini-game of sorts, it's not a very well thought out one and has turned into a chore more than anything else. Next time, try to be a little more useful with your contributions than sharing boneheaded comments like, "use your brain, it's not hard to figure out the code".

You should try using tools. You generally get "You were unable to discern anything" messages 9 out of 10 times. Definite waste of already underpowered tools.

That entire aspect of the job was a waste of development time.
If there were traits that naturally improved it over time to have higher than ~10% success rate it'd been nice, As is, was simply a half-hearted attempt to RP the job into some use. Think the only time Ive ever owned a Thief's Key/tools/etc was picking certain coffers for AF.
I think using a Thief's Tool/Key/etc on a Brown Casket should just have a chance to unlock it, not give a hint, the tools are expensive enough. throw THF a bone on something.
But really though, If they wanted to add Keys, the best way to do it would be from Tabs. It'd have to be relatively expensive to balance it though

Please god don't listed to the opening post. Use your brain, it's not hard to figure out the code. You have a hunch the first digit is even.
You have a hunch one of the two digits is a 2.
You have a hunch the first digit is a 2, 3 or 4.
You have a hunch the number is between 21 and 36.
Could be 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 42. 1 in 10 chance. Nope. Not hard at all.

I think she typoed her example, putting 36 instead of 46. But yeah, either way it would be a 1/9 or 1/10 in those cases.

Or at the very least, revise it so it doesn't give you redundant clues.
"You have a hunch one of the two digits is a 2."
"You have a hunch the first digit is even."
I've seen this more times than I care to remember.
Seriha
08-30-2011, 03:16 AM
Except that's not really redundant on its own since the number could be X2 with X being any even number from 2 to 8. The annoying ones are where you get "First number is odd. First number is 1, 2, or 3. Number is between 10-39. One of the numbers is 3." type affairs. In that case, you hope it's 13. Otherwise, good luck.

I think a better idea would be just making the guessing game for the brown chests the same as for the gold ones in Abyssea; you get a new hint every time you input a wrong number.

lol. Just had to buy a TI Inspire for my daughter. $135 for @#$@#$ calculator....for 8TH GRADE!!!!. Wouldn't let us get a Casio either, had to have everyone on the same @##$@#$ model to simplify teaching them how to use them. Probably could have skirted by with a TI-84 for less, probly not much difference with what they will be doing.
Made it all the way to ALG2 in high school with an el cheapo calculator and paper--so long as we had SIN, COS, TAN, etc...we were in the clear. Now they want the big boys in 8th grade...JEESH.

I wish the devs would try popping caskets for 2-3 days, then make their decision if the system's junk or not (aka not fun). I'd wager the guys making the yes/no decision on revamping probably haven't tried popping more than 5 caskets.
