I would love to see our 2hr Familiar get a good overhaul. As it stands now the only time i use it is when im bored and wanna charm a VT and make it slaughter low lvl mobs or NM's. At lvl 90 i cant think of anything thats VT and charmable. Alot of 2hrs have had improvements over the years but BST's remains the same. Now that BST's dont really charm anymore its almost useless.

It would be cool if Familiar called out an actual Familiar. Similar to how DRG's have their own dragons, SMN's have Odin and Alexander, i would like to choose a familiar to call to my side and fight with me for 30 minutes, without using a jug or item. This would give us a chance to have those special uncharmable mobs as pets. Possibly like the NPC quest where we could choose what kind of mob it is such as Roc, Dhalmel, Ram. Or maybe make it more like Phantom Roll where we use Familiar and 1 of 10 possible mobs is summoned, just like a jug pet.

It is a 2hr ability so it would be nice to be able to use it in a situation where, rather than waste a jug pet, you can use Familiar if your running through a zone and get agro, or if your fighting an nm and have already thrown a stack of sheep at it and suddenly realize your out of pets. I think something like this would make us feel more like Beast MASTERS and not just Beast managers.

I absolutely love this idea, especially the phantom roll part. While I would adore having my own specialized chosen pet, the variation would be neat too. I'd definitely be using this every chance I get, haha!

I think you went the wrong way with this.
Instead, concider it this way; Leave what Familiar dose already then,
1.) Allow it to increase the duration of the jug pets it has been used apon, not just the duration of charmed pets.
2.) Stat increases larger then the pittence they are now.(i.e. HP.)
3.) (This one specifically is the one I hope for.)All mobs and jug pets have thier respective jobs themselves. When a BST usues his 2HR on their pet, the pet should also use it's respective 2HR.
4.) (Would be nice, but don't expect it.) When a BST uses their 2HR, have an effect on the pet similar to WHM's Benediction.

i agree that our 2 hour needs a good spring cleaning. I mean i personally only use my 2 hour now for a like tiny pet hp boost in the most dire of situations. And i havent used it for about a month now. Thats how worthless it is right now.

Personally i would like to see it do

1. everything it does now
plus
2. Bigger stat boosts to all stats and combat stats across the board (i.e. STP, haste, atk, str, ect ect)
3. Reset "ready/sic" charges to 3/3
4. Give the pet 300% tp.

But i also like the idea of having it cause ur pet to do its respective 2 hour. (i.e. Lucky lulush would mighty strikes, Lifedrinker lars would blood weapon, ect ect)

They could do away with our 2 hr, and most BST wouldn't notice. Change it to reset JA's (besides the 2 hr itself), and allow us to call out up to three jug pets at once, while removing the Ready command. Also, all three must share Reward, so my current Zeta set up would be split from 1566 to 522 per pet, regardless of how much damage each may have taken individually. This I think would keep the pets from being overpowered.
Also, as previously stated in other threads, allow our damn pets to zone with us, and let us Charm something in abyssea. Take it easy.~

I actually use my 2hr everytime I enter abyssea or am about to do a long event. I'm not sure on all the pet durations before I use familiar but I don't recall ever losing my pet before I get kick our of abyssea or leave on my own when I do it.

I do alot of soloing in abyssea so why not have a pumped up dipper or NN or whatever pet I use instead of the ones I have now. If my pet is already awesome using the 2hr just makes it that much more awesome, instead of waiting for trouble to pop 2hr and hope pet survives long enough for recast reward timers.

It would be nice to have 3 pets out at once but then I'd still be happy even if they don't change it. I would second the fact that I want our damn pets to zone with us. We are the only ones that pay for pets and it's use that has to lose them when we zone. Hell even npc's zone with you so don't tell me it's because we use items to call our pets.

I'm pretty sure all the new jug pets (76+) are all two hour durations, and Familiar just increases max time held to 30 mins on charm-able mobs, so doesn't really do anything for the duration on jug pets, but since it's mostly useless anyhow, no real reason not to use it. lol

Allowing your pets to do 2hours sounds like a good idea. But what about an additional timer and ability for that? 2hour cooldown pet ability or something like that. Shared timer for all pets, of course, so you can't just dismiss a pet and use another 2hour instantly.

Yeah seriously, I used to have a ton of fun soloing lv 90ish stuff as RDM75/BST37 back in the day, like certain Sky NM's, Hakutaku, WotG box NM's to name a few... I miss that kind of stuff, now it's Call Beast or no Beast.

I completely support this idea, as I never really use Charm or Familiar anymore.

Some new modifications to the Beastmaster ability "Familiar" are needed, indeed.
Perhaps allow monsters within Abyssea to be Charmable even?

I like the ideas that have been submitted to alter Familiar. Perhaps an alternate idea could be that Familiar creates a actual Familiar of the current Monster or Notorious Monster you are fighting? Would be interesting to see a MiniFafnir when used on Fafnir or Nidhogg, etc. or a MiniAdamantoise when used on Adamantoise or Aspidochelone, etc.. Well, you get the idea...

I do hope that Familiar gets some form of adjustment to make it worth using again.

you have to remember a lot of these "bsts" now a days have no clue what charm is or how to charm. I actually had bsts tell me that bsts no longer charm in the game. the minute they can use jugs they do that

then again I watched and most of these "bsts" go to Abyssea to level their bst

about 5-6 years ago I got bst to 75. when I returned a few months ago after 20 months break i leveled 75-90 outside of Abyssea solo so i could learn the new skills.

I really like the idea of your skills you posted and the tweaks. You didn't go the wrong way with charmed pets it's just most of theses bst now a days have issues with charming and probably would be confused with a 2hr that benefited a charmed pet lol

But good idea i really liked it

+50% Max HP.
+10% Haste.
+10-20% Attack.
+10-20% Defense.
100 TP Bonus on Sic and Ready commands
Pet foods have double their effect on Familiar'd pet.
And 300% TP when ability is first used.


That is a 2 hour.

A lot of great ideas. Familiar definately needs to get an upgrade. I was thinking that maybe it should be made to allow another pet to be summoned at the same time. It would be like that Yaguo NM or Mithra in campaign. When executing BST JA's it would just apply to both pets performing same actions i.e. Sic/Ready. With Snarl just have it split the enmity between the 2 pets etc. 3 pets seems kind of broken, but I think 2 would be fine.

Hey! I just broke 51 (for the first time ever) on bst, and I did it outside of Abyssea - I've actually never been to Abyssea except to unlock maws and start stones collecting. I see a lot of beasts out when I am exping, we are one of the few jobs that people actually seem to level on the outside.

On topic: Familiar is still awesome on the outside. Although of course I wouldn't be against my favourite job getting a buffed... but familiar is still better than azure lore (lol). I think that familiar only really sucks in abyssea and once you hit 90 - for someone like me, it is still the cats pajamas. I think having really difficult to charm mobs in abyssea would do enough to make familiar better.
