This time, it's a request for the game management team:

I'd like to offer myself as test subject to aid debug the NPC freeze issue as it seems that the development team is unable to replicate the bug on their testing environment.

The said bug has been pestering the game players who use the PlayStation 2 platform for more than six months now.

Because I am quite far from the server (Brazil) the issue manifests itself almost every single time I try to use certain types of NPCs:

Quest NPCs that offer weekly rewards such as for example:

Rondipur - Escort For Hire (San d'Oria)
Dehn Harzhapan - Escort For Hire (Windurst)
Trilok - Escort For Hire (Bastok)

The freeze occurs during the attempt of receiving the quest or the reward afterwards.
In this particular case, I noticed that any players nearby appear on the screen but their legs will not move while they walk.

They simply move while the game shows the usual animation for standing up still. (as if the player were not moving)

Rouva (Spice Gals) at Southern San d'Oria also causes the game to freeze (and Spice Gals is also a weekly quest.)

Any chocobo rental dealer in towns that offer the "A Chocobo Ridding Game" weekly quest will also cause the player to freeze if the system attempts to offer the quest, just before printing the offer text.

Outpost teleport NPCs such as:

Jeanvirgaud - San d'Oria
Rottata - Windurst
Conrad - Bastok

The problem with the Outpost teleport NPCs seem to be somewhat related to the "Thrift Transit" kupower and the freeze occurs right before the text regarding the free teleport is printed.

It's extremely odd (and suspicious) that this BUG is related to these weekly events, meaning that by logic they're probably connected to the exact same problem.

While frozen any event that causes a network disconnection (pulling ethernet cable, logging in from another terminal, disconnecting cable router from modem, etc) causes the PS2 main CPU to crash (video animations stall/freeze) but the sub CPU continues to work as the music keeps playing as usual.

Now, to wrap it up... It *seems* like a fix was attempted because *sometimes* if you wait long enough the thing just "unfreezes" randomly as if the server notices you're stuck and it sends a "/slap" to your PS2 and things go fine once again.

But I don't think it's fair to be forced to wait 30 minutes for a *chance* of getting unstuck.

Thanks for your attention.

Now, for sake of bureaucracy a proper bug report on the suggested format:

Details:
NPC freeze at weekly quest NPCs. The game freezes in a state where only text input is available to the player. Game commands and UI buttons are unavailable while frozen.

Steps:

1. Talk to afflicted NPCs (list is above, on the 1st part of this post)
2. Observe as the game is stuck.
3. Pull ethernet cable or start PC version and log to the same account.
4. Watch as the PlayStation2 system crashes completely, requiring a full power cycle.

Since they moved the op warp guy in north sandy it's worked fine for me. The whitegate warp guy in south sandy still freezes me on a regular basis though unfortunately. Maybe he could get a relocation as well soon?

Unfortunately, it will do no good posting here or anywhere else. None of the threads regarding these issues or any other have been addressed in this segment of the Forum. Contacting SE will just get you an e-mail that says "We have no solution at this time."

What I have found at the NPC's that are the most troublesome is that if someone else uses them, it generally clears the freeze so that you can use them. :)

I can dream of a better world, huh ?

And not necessarily a world with ponies in it ... ;) If FFXI worked properly it would be enough... -_-;

AT LEAST they're trying...

Yes we can, unfortunately, not in this case. :)
