View Full Version : Dark/Samurai vs Dark/Warrior?

Let me just say that I have come into the habit of bringing my own personal WHM mule with macros designed to heal me (and other players in the party if I feel like assisting them) so HEALING IS NOT AN ISSUE. Just wanted to point that out because that was the #1 reason I would never sub WAR in the past because it would often end up with me eating dirt.. a lot.... lol...
I would also like to say that I am a fan of Scythe, and do not have any intentions of getting the BandWagon Greatsword. I know its powerful, but I like my Woeborn/Twilight. Trying to bring some respect back to Guillotine. And hopefully some DRKs might appreciate that :p
Back to what Im trying to talk about though! /Samurai vs /Warrior
Store TP+15, Meditate, Hasso
*VS*
Double Attack +10%, Berserk, Aggressor
My notion is that with Last Resort fixed (and insanely broken at the same time) The Idea of having an Attack Bonus up 100% of the time and occasionally overlapping for what will probably be 999 Attack As well as Double Attack+10% to help with Guillotine WS is a VERY interesting Idea... Also, JA Haste caps at +25% so Last Resort caps that by default, making hasso useless 75% of the time. I think subbing WAR would parse very high. The only variables beeing a possible loss of Hit-Build, which I believe we can comfortably get around that with gear/food.. And Meditate.
I wanted to see what the other DRKs thought about this idea.
Guess you might say its WS Frequency vs Raw Muscle
Thank you for your time

I always sub war for events, never had any problems, damage has been great but I have no parse. Meditate is a very small loss as a sub the 60% tp is nice but not exactly game breaking, although it can lead into self scing which is greater damage. I have always been a GS DRK I used to go to einherjar DRK/SAM and Naglering and really pwn parses. Sam sub still has some great defense as a sub with seigan/third eye which can really be a life saver, but like you I always have plenty of healing and I have had better damage /war than /sam and thats just my personal preference. Att is really easy to cap either way you go so 999 attack isn't gonna be all that much of a deal breaker but I love the always active 10% double attack more than the 25% hasso/seigan/thirdeye combo (I use seigan/third eye seldom anyways). Anyways thats my opinion, now let the trollfest begin.
6 hit /sam caladbolg or 5 hit scythe will beat anything /war has to offer and then some. Mathheads who have nothing else to do but do up math to support what they say have gone over this with a fine tooth comb and the evidence is overwhelming.
/mnk is probably the second best sub for drk if you can maintain constant hate and tank (inside abyssea only) due to gnarled horn and the nature of counterstance.
/thf gets some props (with caladbolg only) you can pull some very high numbers.
but neither of these will put out more raw damage than /sam and xhit builds.
I don't mean to sound like a dick about it either, just the facts.

^ what Dart said
Zanshin,Sekk,Med,xhit and hasso when LR is down are all huge advantages.

/SAM is superior for the free Store TP alone. The remaining tools aren't as useful as they once were, but still... free Store TP.

The only tool that lost value is Hasso and its still a huge increase in DoT when LR is down. It can still provide the +5 STR and +10 acc the entire duration, neither of which are a bad thing for DRK.
Sekk is an excellent JA, esp in Abyssea where over TPing is quite common with DRKs 25+ TA with atmas. Zanshin allows a melee to break the 95% acc cap and obviously helps on the more EVA mobs. Meditate makes self SCing easy.

/SAM > /WAR
Prolly situational uses for /WAR but /SAM is far better.

I enjoy using /WAR over /SAM inside Abyssea. I usually use Apoc/VV/Plaguebringer for Atma, and I always do well. Outside of Abyssea, I still use /SAM just 'cause I can't proc so many additional attacks without the Atma. Probably gonna get flamed for posting this, but it's just my two cents.

Think of it this way: would a WAR ever sub DRK? not really. If you can cap attack easy on whatever you're fighting (no, 999 attack is just a UI limitation), adding Berserk wouldn't really do much for /WAR and would just suffer diminishing returns in the process. In layman's terms, the more you add, the less results you'll get out of it. And unless you can force more double attacks, it's not really worth it.
Generally in this case, yes, Store TP and meditate will help pull ahead.
