I proposed this idea in another thread earlier this week (not "officially" though) and it received some positive feedback from other players, so now that we have been shown how to properly propose ideas to the Development Team, I will now "officially" make the proposal.

Do you happen to have a lot of seals clogging your inventory? Do you continuously complete quests to assist the poor citizens of Abyssea with their plight only to be rewarded with nothing? Or maybe the seals you want come from Notorious Monsters who are too difficult for your small group of adventurers to defeat? Seals that you don't need, yet you keep in the hopes that they can still somewhat be useful to your cause? FEAR NO MORE! I propose to you, citizens of Vana'diel......the "Seal Traders!"

The "Seal Traders" are citizens of Abyssea, who are available to assist adventurers from Vana'diel with their seal woes! They will accept unwanted seals from adventurers in exchange for one seal that the adventurer wants. In order to maintain some balance, the NPC will accept seals for Head, Legs, Feet and Hands at a 5:1 ratio, and a 7:1 ratio for Body. You must also trade seals to the NPC that correspond to the same gear slot for the seal that you want. I will provide a couple of examples on how this will work.

Example #1 - I am looking for Creed Seal: Legs seals. I am currently 7 out of 8 to complete the upgrade and need one more, and I've had horrible luck recently getting that last seal, whether it be from an NM, or through a quest! I currently have 2 Ferine Seal: Legs, 1 Caller's Seal: Legs, and 2 Cirque Seal: Legs that I do not need. The "Seal Trader" NPC will take those 5 seals and in return, give me one Creed Seal: Legs. I'm now able to complete my upgrade!

Example #2 - I require just one more Savant's Seal: Body to complete my Scholar
+1 Empyrean Body armor! But my linkshell has stopped killing the NM that drops it!! I have been valiantly fighting for the citizens of Abyssea by participating in Dominion Ops but have had no luck obtaining that final seal. However, over the course of a few days, I did receive 2 Ravager's Seal: Body, 1 Caller's Seal: Body, 1 Creed Seal: Body, 1 Ferine Seal: Body, 1 Navarch Seal: Body, and 1 Orison Seal: Body. I can trade those 7 seals to the "Seal Trader" NPC and in return, obtain the final Savant Seal: Body to complete my upgrade.

Any feedback from Development and other players is greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Devs!

Well, you kind of most the post annoying to read, but you made a good point and a good idea.
I'll give props to that.

I think that's a fair balance trading them in at 5:1. Would they have to be 5 of the same seal for 1 seal of choice? Or 5 of any seal to get 1 seal of choice?

your idea is good but there is a little problem :

a lot of morons, regardless if there is some people who really need a type of seal, will appear and will lot to each seal they can

and i dont really understand why the ratio for hand is 7.1 instead of 5.1, like other parts (except body) which also need 8 seals

I'd be happy with just being able to store them to some NPC.

I wouldn't mind storing the seals until I had them finished...but I suppose trading them could be useful also

^ this

Seals aren't so difficult to obtain that we really need a trade system, imo. I've completed a lot of +1's for jobs I don't have and don't particularly plan on leveling - but since we have the porter moogle system to store away the +1's, there's no reason not to complete them.

Ok I don't think people are using dev tags properly:

Please be sure to utilize the "dev tag" system when commenting on subjects from the "In Development" forum.

The last topic was "Corsair Phantom roll ability" So I when I click on a thread that has a dev tag I'm assuming it's a new topic posted in the "in development" section. Which this isn't...

@ Eadieni - 5 seals from any job, but they have to be for the same gear slot. 5 PUP leg seals for 1 MNK leg seal.

@ Futan - I'd also be happy with having an NPC available to store seals, as this would free up....oh.....about 42 spots in my Mog Sack.

@ Ackman - You're right. The hand seals should also be at the 5:1 ratio since 8 are required to upgrade to +1. My bad, and I'll edit the OP as such. And regarding the "Village Idiot" who will lot seals regardless.....I'd simply kick them, or at least run with LS members.

Seal trading with NPC does not work: this will make everyone to go heavily camp easy NMs for whatever-seals to trade. You will end up complaining again.

What we have now is acceptable except that the drop rate is definitely off. Given my example for Athams, by the time I only got 5 nin seals I already have 15+ mnk and thf, and 10+ for dnc. SE states there is nothing wrong with the drop rate then please make all seals drop evenly.

You all complaining because the seals you wanted is not dropping and that's because SE made it that way.

I agree, lately I've been seeing alot of people do this on freelot items not just for seals, but anything in general wether or not they intend too or can use it. It's not unreasonable to think people will start lotting everything after such an update is made.

Another big issue I see happening, is monopolization of NM's that are easily soloable. Using Siviards method, anyone that can solo a NM can just spam said NM until they get all the "junk" seals they want for anything they might need. Short term this would be just an annoyance, but what if everyone starts monopolizing a NM that drops a KI for another NM. After that point it starts to impede progress for anyone trying to do bigger NM's in Abyssea.

A more reasonable option would be to allow players to obtain seals by purchasing them with Dominion notes. I know many players have a stockpile of these notes and they are relatively easy to obtain, so adding a heafty pricetag for each seal would not be unreasonable.

However, I do see a use for Siviards idea. Instead of a seals exchange, the idea of exchanging trial items for others is a bit more reasonable. Let's be honest here, some of the trial items needed for certain Emp. weapons are extremely difficult to obtain Vs. others. At the same time, we occasionally obtain an item off of some of these monsters such as Oberons Lantern. Now suppose we could exchange these items with a 2 - 1 ratio.

The catch would be you could only exchange for the higher Tier NM items (Megaboss Teir and above) and exchange items for others of the same Tier. An example would be you could trade 2x Gavloid Shells for 1x Oberon's Lantern, but you can't exchange Gavloid Shells for Alfard's Fang, because they're on different Tiers.

I'm just throwing a random idea based off Siviards, but it allows all players to get their hands on Emp weapons at a reasonable pace. Since the trades could only be done for higher Tier NMs and for NMs of the same level Tier it prevents easy monopolization, because players have to build up to the NM and KI's are limited to one per person.
