View Full Version : One thing that SMN is missing
I love the SMN job, however it seems like it is missing something. Whips, the weapon of choose for summoner. My all time favorite summoner, Rydia, was pretty handy with a whip. Is there room in the FFXI world for whips?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there isn't any room for whips in FFXI, SE says it would be too much work.
Unfortunately due to the fact that it would take approximately the same amount of manpower to create these new weapon classes as it would to create a full expansion pack, the development team determined it is pretty difficult to do this. Apologies

Well then, The obvious Solution is to create a new Expansion and add Whips to it as well.
And give us an A-! Make it 2-handed, and Summoner Specific. A SMN Specific Set of weapons? Imagine the possibilities.

A 2-handed whip? That doesn't make any sense to me at all.

Considering SE's stance on this, I have my doubts it will ever happen. Easier would be to make a Whip a sub type of throwing weapons that act much like returning weapons, and have an animation on the mob that is whip-like.
Summoners will have to get Throwing (or alternatively, a new skill, but this is unnecessary) as a native skill of course, but it wouldn't be too much further from there to add two dozen whips that do a decent amount of damage.
This would also help deal with balance issues that come from having to balance around perp cost staves, as it would just be a class of throwing weapon in a way.

Neither is Dual Wielding Whips :P!
Think of it more like h2h ... except you can use a grip.
Edit: For the record on the whip idea, i was being semi-sarcastic. I don't think SE will give us whips :X

Whips are nice, but they were really not used for high-end damage, so they would roughly have the same stats of a Staff without the mage enhancements of Staves.
And most jobs would be able to wield them too.

a little clever tweaking of the animation used could make mini-whips (flails really) a possibility as a distinct "Club" weapon subclass lol, not unlike say hammers.
After all, SE does seem to be taking the route of spiffy animation on weapons pretty far these days..
It would have to have distinct features on it tho.. kinda like how hexaguns have low delay for guns..
truth be told if whips have anything innately useful in them itd make more sense if they benefit BST more.

Whips would be awesome I mean even Lucy (the summoner) in Fairy Tail now has a whip!
Although the chances of us ever getting them or even any new weapon classes being added i would say is below 1%.

Unfortunately they already said no to whips I believe. Sad :(
