View Full Version : Level cap increase\Update: Is it ever going to actually happen?

Honestly .... it's the 20th of August, the month they claim will have the update, they toss teasers our way telling us what will come, but still no info on WHEN the update actually is going to occur. I for one would like a little more than a 12-24 hour notice.

When the info comes more steadily like it is now, it's usually an indication of the update being near.
Specially when we get definite/semi-definite job updates.
I predict within two weeks.

No. All these update notes we are getting is just BS and we will be level 90 forever.

2 weeks will be September .... unless they plan on giving us a literal last minute update and have it on Aug 31 (and coincide with payment)

It will be in 3 years.
Seriously, give me a break. We dont usually get a date until a week before at best. Knowing when isn't oging to make it come faster either. They said the timing will be announced soon, so probably after the weekend is over. Take a deep breath. Relax. Inhale, exhale. Keep your pants on whilst doing so.

Don't worry it will come. It's not the first time SE has done an update very late in the month and it wont be the last. But they will :D!

It will be next month for sure. I doubt they will add it this month A) Because they were already behind schedule with the Earthquake/Tsunami, B) because we are fast approaching a highly suspect Billing Cycle.
Why are you worrying anyway, you'll be 95 all jobs in a week or less after release and back in here clamoring for the next update and complaining about this one. Relax, unwind yourself, it's a game not a job.

I am hoping the update relieves some abyssea congestion. I get about 30 minutes a day during the week to play and we all know that isn't enough to do anything really. On the off-chance I do get an hour+ I have to contend with competitors for ??? and NMs so half the time I don't get anything done there either.

I think a more important question than "when is it going to happen" is "what is going to happen?"
There's some cool new job abilities spells here and there, but not enough to make me anxious about when this is going down,as there are many unanswered questions, like where we're going to level, on what, and in what way?
The last three expansions gave us 3 new--if recycled-- zones each in which to level. They had new mobs, and the latter two had new methods for leveling, namely Bastion and Dominion Ops. Will 91-95 have some new system as well? Or will we see the monsters in Abyssea and traditional areas redistributed?
Probably sometime in September because thats when they were giving out those chocobo staffs or whatever they were for transferring your account to a SE account.

Most updates lose their appeal shortly after you log-in and see there is still nothing much different to do than before, as such they will wait till after everyone that has yet to change over to the new payment system will be locked out.
If they release it before everyone will see how crap the update is and they will lose their only hook this month against the disgruntled players.

Talk about a debbie downer. Hopefully there's at least enough new content to keep us interested for a few weeks, as there usually is if they pop out some new awesome gear.
Well they talk like they will announce it this time around... they generally do announce large updates well in advance by like 1 or 2 weeks. I think that last minor update or one before it was kind of like, "lalalalala, what a nice Friday this is. Such nice weath-" SE ANNOUNCEMENT: Update on Monday!
If they are already releasing infos, I say Sept 5 or 12. Either would be a really good bet. Worst case 19th. And they don't always update on Mondays so could be later in the week on those dates. Either way it's under a month away. And it could be the most important update they will ever do. It could convince a lot of would be quitters into staying, if it's good enough. So, it'd be in their best interest to do it at the end of August or the start of Sept and move any unfinished stuff to the next minor update... assuming what's ready is hot enough to do some convincing.

I'm leaning toward September 5th, especially with the job updates out now. Those are usually among the last of teasers. As is, we're still lacking more info on hinted Merit and WS adjustments. I can't recall if they've specifically posted on Voidwatch progression beyond the Mantis picture, either. Maybe finer details on WoE tweaks if that's this update, as well.

Update will be after next payment. They don't want anyone to test it and decide "I won't pay next month". They rather want all the "I won't use these new services, I'll take a break" people who sit there to think "Maybe I should pay and test this level cap out".

Being that last of the normal billing cycle, making the update in september will force a large number of people to convert just to try it out.

Because you asked when the level cap will take place, they had to revamp the entire update and redo what they had planned, so it won't actually take place until December. Way to go, you ruined it for everyone!

Oh dear my bad but,
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/4937-The-FINAL-FANTASY-XI-roadmap-for-the-twelve-month-period-commencing-April-2011
This announcement came close enough to the Earthquake/Tsunami ( March) that I am sure it had an effect on the timing of releases. It's relevant. Let's not forget too that there was some conjecture that the level cap increases were scheduled to be implemented prior to March even, but that the failure of FF14 last year put an end to that. That must have put a huge spanner and a couple of wrenches in the works for SE.
My money is still on a September release. That will ensure that all the people holding out for payment option changes will be forced into paying up to get those updates. After all, people were suckered into buying the Abyssea expansions at $9.99 a pop. If they do a "middle of next week" update it would be surprising. It would not be on Monday Aug 29, too close to the next billing cycle.
It still remains that no matter when it is, everyone who can still play will be level 95 all jobs in a week or less ( assuming no daily Emergency maintenances) and back here complaining about all that is wrong with it then in a few weeks begging for the next Update.
So, just chill and do some of those non - Abyssea things you thought weren't worthwhile doing or go play something else for a bit. In a few years, you won't even remember playing this game, enjoy it for what it is.

I'm of the camp they should've sat on and revised the roadmap prior to its release if the events in March were indeed a factor. In general, delays can happen, as most anyone with some coding experience can attest to when it comes to bug squishing and general quality assurance. In the event there's something big not mentioned on the map that could also be contributing to delays, like an expansion, we'd also certainly like to know. Thinking on what's been added since April, though, and subsequent downtimes for emergency maints and such, it's not quite adding up for me.

I don't doubt that it'll be after the next billing cycle. Not because they are some evil company out to get your money, but rather a dying animal backed into a corner...
SE is huge and has tons of assets besides FFXI and FFXIV, but FFXIV really took it out of them.

the timing of the update will have absolutely nothing to do with the billing cycle. Especially after reactivating, people will begin to have varying billing dates. If you came back in the last month, your billing date may already be different.

Think I brought this up in the past too but if memory serves me correctly the power crisis and subsequent shutdown of servers and businesses took place after the roadmap was released. Remember how we got that free month? Not sure what everyone is trying to suggest, that the dev. team has been lazy or something? That it's a big conspiracy? More to the point, who gives a toss really.

No, what Leon is saying is that the effects of the tsunami wasn't known when they released that road map. They are still having power shortages in Japan, abet in a smaller effect now.
Yeah, they released it afterwards, but think about it, do you think they planned everything in that road map in a week after they released that road map when we started playing again?

My thing is that I'm not really satisfied with the game for the most part, and I don't know whether or not I'm going to want to stick with it if there isn't something interesting or cool for one of my jobs in the update...
Notes are fine, but I'd like to know everything that happens in the update so I can make my decision -- if its not until September after they said it was August, that's fine, but I'd like to know that's what's going to happen.
And typically, we do have a decent idea of the time frame of the updates a long time before they happen -- they usually say "Early", "mid" or "Late" -- and those ranges are pretty reliable (usually within a couple days of each other... most "late" dates are between the 20th and the 25th, for example.)
But yeah, its not big deal, but frankly I'd like to know when its going to land.

Proven false by the delay of the account transfer deadline and addressing of people's payment complaints.

Not every nitty-gritty little detail is covered by the update notes, either. Take the new THF ability for instance. First, everyone took it for what it said and thought it meant "Intimidates the target once" and assumed it was total garbage. Then we eventually learned that it's better than that (By how much, you can be the judge)

They said "mid fall." How hard is that to understand?
When you're in a business like this and you give exact dates or very close approximations, hell will get raised against you if you miss that date. They are vague because they don't want to set people up for disappointement and then have to deal with the subsequent onslaught of complaints and whining.

mid fall is mid October to most .... and they have given projected estimated times many times before and any mmorpg they will whine and complain but its a company that is synonymous with lack of disclosure as most will say is used to peak our interest but really if people wanted this intrigue and mystery they wouldn't be data mining heck out of it on release night / day and establishing wiki sights so that others can reference to on a massive scale the time of mystery and excitement is gone people just want to know info not be siting with their thumb up their @$$ playing guessing games all the time, well maybe some people do but majority of us don't
Alhanelem
08-24-2011, 04:49 AM
Uh, SE is not synonymous with lack of disclosure. I find it riduclulous when SE gives people a month or more of notice about something and then people come on the forums and post "thanks for telling us at the last minute!"
Seriously? a MONTH or more is not enough notice? When they announced the account transfer, there was over a month before the transfer was enabled and another month before it was originally going to become mandatory. Since people had so many problems with it, they're extending it further. But it's ridiculous to suggest people weren't notified with a reasonable timeframe.

That was sort of my point -- I'd like to actually see/experience what the update changes before I make a decision -- which would involve getting he update before I have to make my next payment. Since it was supposed to be this month I have less and less time to make a decision if the update still comes out before September -- which it doesn't look like it is.
I don't particularly mind if they are still working on things, I just feel like most of what they announced is probably already done and I'm hoping (less fist shaking, more, meh oh well) they have some more things to surprise us with if we have to wait until mid/late September.

Erm, lionheart is saying they DID take the effects of the tsumani into account, I'm saying they didn't. I'm not sure what the hell you're saying.
Pretty hard to imagine them revising a year long plan within a week or whatever with all the other things that would have been going on at the time. Also pretty hard for them to predict how bad the situation would have become.
We're about a month off the schedule prescribed by that (now very old) roadmap. We were a month off schedule for the "June" update. I can't see them simple having an entire month of development time go down the drain for any reason but the effects of the tsunami really.
In short, no. I find it entirely unlikely that they somehow magically forecast a month of server shutdowns (including the test server probably) and rolling power outages probably resulting in the closure of their offices.

I really don't think there's very much more coming. Looking at the road map, the announcements that are still to come should be:
Daily Reward System
Abyssea Adjustments
Voidwatch Part II
Fellow Announcements (level increase and summonable areas) (Did they do this, I honestly have forgotten)
Mission and Quests Tweaks (including Magian)
Synergy and Crafting Skill Cap Adjusting
Possibility of Second Job Addition and Adjustment Teaser
That assumes that everything mentioned is close to being rolled out. They could probably stretch that over two more weeks at the rate they`ve been releasing "official" teasers. If you're concerned whether you should pay next month because of the quality of the update or how it will actually pan out, you should probably just wait until things get figured out. Honestly (of course this is just me looking at it from my point of view, your mileage may vary), the update looks kind of lackluster and the whole billing issue makes me (personally) believe that SE doesn't deserve my money next month. I plan on sitting back and seeing how everything turns out gameplay and billing wise.
