So while I appreciate that the big news that gets translated from Japanese to English (about 8-10 hours after its posted), I feel the non Japanese community is done a great disservice by both the slowness in translation and by the lack of complete translations. Not to mention the disparity in developer response and feedback.
About 5-10 posts a day happen in the Japanese forums by developers in areas ranging from general to even /gasp job specific forums. The non-English community is pretty much relegated to just using general discussion if we want a hope that a developer reads it.
Using babel fish/Google translate/ Microsoft translate only gets us so far, and I understand some of them are questions that were asked in JP but not English so there is no appropriate thread for the translated developer reply, but it doesn't take much to say..."In regards to a question concerning 'the barrier module', Mocci had this to say "...."
I guarantee you the English Puppet masters are just as anxious to hear about the planed changes to that attachment even if we never asked a specific question about shield block, parry, and evasion with our pets.
Personally, I would like to see more (all preferably) of the developer comments translated over. Just a simple daily transcript that's somewhat closer to when the original post would be greatly appreciated.

I would wager it has nothing to do with racism and more to do with their culture. They are not going to want to post in job specific forums in a language they don't speak, specially if they aren't 100% sure and confident that they speak that language well enough to give a decent reply.

(about 8-10 hours after its posted)We are not done a "great disservice" here. IT TAKES TIME TO GIVE PROPER TRANSLATIONS. The people posting them have real lives and work during our time period, so you cannot expect it to be translated at 5am in the morning when you see it in the JP sections. They are not just going over to google and hitting the translate button. They are doing it with care and patience so that there are no inaccuracies or discrepancies in the translation.
I hate to say it, but it makes me sick to see people complaining about this. Give me a break! You're lucky it's the same day.
Why is it such a big deal that you find out this information 10 hours late...? Are you worried that they are going to spill the beans on something in game that will raise the price of something considerably overnight and you won't get a piece of the pie? And what makes you think they don't read all of the forums here? The vast majority of people just use general because the devs respond in general. Perhaps they always respond in general so that they can be sure the majority will see it, and don't automatically presume that everyone uses general and that it doesn't matter where they post. I don't get why people always have to assume the worst. I don't get why that unless they read every forum top to bottom everyday all day that they're liars when they tell us they do read it.
Also translating isn't exactly easy. It doesn't take 6 months for a FF game to come overseas because they wish it. They could half ass it, but then we wouldn't have such nice and perfect translations that make sense in English... most of the time. I don't know about you, but I'd have a hard time playing a game that has "all your base are belong to us" translations left and right.
Ah-haaah, I remember that phrase being used in WotG missions, by Orcs I think. That was epic.

I think some of the responders here are missing the point of the original post.
It's not a complaint about how long translations take... (that was a passing comment, likely just wishing they were faster, it would be ideal, but not demanded.)
It's pointing out that there are several posts each day, from the devs, in reply to the Japanese forum posts that never get translated at all as far as we're aware. I've personally tried browsing the Japanese forums through Google translate, but that ends up more frustrating than anything, since I can only half read it, and it makes me even more curious what they're getting clarification on, that we're left in the dark about.
Makes me wish Elmer stayed with FFXI, instead of going over to FFXIV's official site or whatever happened to him.
So while I appreciate that the big news that gets translated from Japanese to English (about 8-10 hours after its posted), I feel the non Japanese community is done a great disservice by both the slowness in translation and by the lack of complete translations.
Oh, heaven forbid the English translators get time to sleep. Or that they be allowed to stop working when the work day is over.
You realize that it's a completely different time on a different day over there in Japan, right? And that the guys that translate things live in the US?

As you can see, my comment about JP being pretty racist is deleted, and it wasn't inflammatory in the least.
