Details:

Just recently got my dell xps 15 L502X. Went to the playonline website and looked to buy the ultimate abyssea collection i choose to purchase the game with direct 2 drive once the download completed i installed final fantasy xi and the expansions that came with it then i set the shorcuts for the playonline viewer and ffxi. Then I had a problem, once i clicked to start as administrator it loads about a second then a black cmd menu appears then the im prompted with a message playonline viewer stopped working.

Steps:
1. Playonline viewer opens with a black cmd pop up and i am prompted with the
message playonline viewer has stopped working.

2. I attempted to reload the viewer. Restart my laptop and try to load the viewer yet it still stopped working.

3. Try to run through troubleshoot compatibilty will all possible window modes nothing worked.

4. I decide to go back online to playonline to search for a alternative playonline viewer which i found that was vista/windows 7 compatible version downloaded it and unistalled my previous viewer. Installed the new one and still the same problem occurs.

5. I put down firewalls put playonline as a program permitted to load the same problem happens.

6. The final thing i attempted i found port numbers from Square-Enix and applied the following port fowarding numbers 25, 80, 110, 443, 50000, 65535 perhaps i may have done it wrong. I don't know what else to do please help.

Think it's a problem with the Nvidia chip. A lot of people with the Optimus/Intel combo have had to disable the Nvidia and run it on the Intel chip. Forget all the details, but I think they were disabling the controller in Device Manager or something.

Edit:
Yeah, googled it, got a hit about it at FFXIVPro:

Figured it out, make sure your intel drivers are updated and disable your good nvidia card in device manager >.> ffxi just doesn't like optimus, you have to use your integrated card.

Further down in that thread though, there is a post (on 7/31) linking to a Beta driver that seems to have gotten it to work using the nVidia card for one user. Might be something to look into. Just remember FFXI doesn't always like the latest and greatest hardware/drivers.
