Just wondering if reps can blacklist people themselves. so they can ignore posts from people who contribute nothing to threads and habitually derail threads on purpose? This practise prevents reasonable discussion and actual progression of thought on a job from being heard in most cases as reps will probably skim these at most once the idiocy gets into full swing.

Doubtful, as the only way to be "fair" is to trudge through everyone's crap, even those who need a helmet to tie their own shoes.

This forum is an all-you-can-eat buffet for feeding the trolls.
My patience has worn pretty thin, and my ignorelist grows daily. It doesn't help that certain people quote obvious trolls, and I end up having to read their crap anyway, or at least skim it.
I actually wish mods were more strict! It's really getting out of hand.

They can.
It's called a ban

Unfortunatly, mods can't do much about people as long as they are on topic.
Although, they ban people for being on topic and actually posting a serious thread, they don't care at all. Enough reports can get people auto-banned, so everyone abuses it.

As a moderator you have a duty to see and read everything, even if you don't personally like the person posting or what tehy're saying. Otherwise you're not being impartial. If the uselessness/inappropriateness rises to the level of rule breaking, then they have bans and suspensions for that.

Can they at least topic ban, if there has been repeated derail attempts.

I agree with the Op. Every thread, and now even dedicated threads are dedicated to trying to get people banned. Those posters are not contributing to the FFXI community.
