So since my and many other FFXI players accounts are going to be closed at the end of this month through no fault of our own I've been looking for some other MMO's that I can play.
Anyone have any good recommendations?
I've tried wow and although I liked it to a point I could never get fully into it for some reason, I wanted to play Vindictus but no EU release still, pso2 is still a while off and tera was delayed..again.
What are some decent, fun MMOs out right now. Rift is the one I'm probably thinking of but glad to hear of any other games fellow XI players have tried and enjoyed.

dont even bother with rift, its complete garbage. PvP crap is so stupid. To be honest. The best MMO right now is probably Lord of the Rings Online. It's a pretty big game, and the story is relatively long. If i had the computer to run it, id be back playing it again, but it exploded, so i have to wait. if you have a uber machine, Lord of the rings has the best visuals of any MMO to date, unless of course you count FFIV a finished product. On max graphics Lord of the Rings will blow you away.

Gameplay >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Graphics. Whats the combat system like on LoTR:o? The Leveling system, stat growth, etc. I've read about the game but didn't give it too much thought (what with FFXI and all). I'd like to hear more about it, it sounds very interesting.
As for me, a friend of mine told me about "Dragon Nest", its a f2p "mmo" similar to Diablo II if you will, in some ways. But also very different. its got more of a "Dynasty Warrior" type Real-time combat system, multiple instanced dungeons.. its rather fun. requires 1g of free ram, other than that system req aren't too bad (my decade old machine could run it but i only have 1g ram total lol, so it freezes on me).
oh.
and.

there are some f2p mmo's that aren't too horrible, i have some on my pc as well.
grand fantasia: anime style graphics, has a unique crafting system, solo and party oriented goals. has a somewhat wow-esque feel to it
rappelz: mouse only movement, has a large selection of pets that can be used on all classes, more party oriented past lvl 20-25ish
shin megami tensei: imagine online: nice graphics for a f2p game, largely pet based (think mmo meets pokemon lol), pets can be merged to make new pets, pets have super attacks that look pretty wicked, lots of solo content as well as a good bit of party content, highly interactive (you will need to counter and dodge by actually using those actions).
Feista: this one is ok but nothing special, anime-esque graphics, i've played worse
hope these help

I'm playing TERA right now, one of the advantages of living in Korea, even though because of the billing changes I'll no longer be able to play FFXI >.> It's a great game, no idea why the English version is being delayed... I think it has to do with the Elin race and child-porn worries... hell, all the females are scantily clad, but because the Elin are cute and young looking (in an anime kind of way) they are having their armor changed for English release. Also, they are trying to change the PvP system somehow...
Another MMO I enjoyed and still play sometimes is Star Trek Online. Probably only worth it if you're a trekkie though... I bought a lifetime pass back in the beta period, so I can go back anytime I want and not worry about paying again.

Meh that's quite sad to hear, Rift was as I said the game I was most considering.
Yet another bluff thread.
This isn't a bluff thread, this is "I'm going to be locked out of my account, what else can I play?" Just becuase you're fine that doesn't mean others will be.

Aw I hate you :P I've been really looking forward to Tera for a long time, was sad to hear they put it off till next year again. I think it was cause they wanted more endgame content for release, I'm not sure :/

Was looking at this, it's a little "cutsey" for my liking but I might give it a go.

Nah but if enough get blocked you can enjoy less content due to lower monthly revenues. Not like they add much anyway but still.

If you want a completely different spin on an MMO, and not your usual killing of dragons with swords and magic, you could always look into EVE. It's a futuristic space based MMO, in the most gigantic game world I've ever seen. That and it's one "server" with up to 45k+ players on at once. Hell it's even "free" after a point since in game money can be used to buy game time.
That said, the learning curve is rough at the start. It'll kick you in the balls, and once you're on the ground it'll kick once more for good measure.
Shouldn't look past free MMOs. It's starting to catch on as a valid path to take. Hook them on the game and they'll spend those monies on expansion packs. You know a developer has faith in what they created when they go free to play from the start, specifically big name devs and games like AoE. Not so much the newbs because they don't have much choice but to go the free route with an unproven franchise. Free no longer necessarily translates to crap.

Play whatever the heck you want. this is an FFXI forum. People come here to talk about FFXI, not other games. Go pick up some F2P game, then never worry about billing again.
(And yes, it is another drama-inducing bluff thread)

I knew what Alhalenem was going to say before I clicked the "show post" button. And for once, and I do mean once, he's right.
It's enough to say--no, sing!-- "We're not gonna take it, noooo, we're not gonna take it!..." but a discussion of other MMOs should not be had here. This is the FFXI main discussion board. I think comparisons to other games can be made, but not, "hey SE, we're not gonna play, and we're taking our money elsewhere, but um... where should I go?"
If the thread can't last, there's little point in making it. If you can make a thread that protests the changes, that they have to stare at every day, that's something else. I can't imagine new threads making any change at this point. They're going to do what they're going to do, based upon what we've already said, iterated, and reiterated. Maybe new or old threads won't do any good at all, and it will take players actually not playing and paying before SE makes satisfactory changes. We do not and cannot know one way or the other. Either way, discussing it can't hurt.
But we don't need threads about what else you should be doing with your own money. Whether it's spending it on another MMO, or on anything else for that matter, has nothing to do with this forum.

Wow.
This is stupid.
On topic: You'll come crawling back like a meth addict, once you get your money fixed, this is all you'll want.

If we can pay in a secure way without anyone trying to rip us off sure, if not I don't think so.

My all time favorite was Everquest Online Adventures, I'm not sure you want to risk it thou because it was winding down. Boy it was one fun game.
Edit: If you do decide to try it for awhile chose Castle Lightwolf as a server because its the most active of the servers.
