Anyone know of any "Synergy for Dummies" sites. I just don't get the hang of it.

1) Do I need to have high crafting skill to do it?

2) Is the Synergy say for "Genbu's Shield", do you have to have high synergy lvl?

Just can't figure out what I can do and what I can't, no one I know does it, once I figure out what I can do, I need to figure how to.

1)Consider nearly every synergy recipe as having a sub craft. Sites with recipe lists (such as ours (click here) (http://ffxi.gamerescape.com/wiki/Category:Synergy) will list the sub crafts required and the tier of those crafts required. If you see that a synergy recipe requires more than one craft at a very high level, then you will need to have someone who has that skill into your party. You do not need to have any of the sub crafts yourself, if you have friends or can find people that have them..

2)The synergy level has nothing to do with the name of the item or where it comes from. If you want to do synergy augments, a high level is not required, but a higher level will help with your results. All synergy augmenting recipes have a low Synergy skill requirement and no sub crafts.

The above link also has instructions, and an explanation of certain specific aspects.

It's a lot easier to just show you ingame, though I can't do that, not being from cerberus. I can try to answer more questions though.

I "operate pressure handle" to power level crafting. It can get to be expensive and you'll go through a ton of Dark Fewell, but you'll get lots of skillups.

its cheaper and simpler to just take any of the "Nugget" synergy recipes above your level (it doesn't matter how far above- you will still get skill ups) and feed fewell, but feed too much/not enough before you end it so it doesn't complete.

Synergy is Synergy skill. Craft skills are also used in Synergy I guess as an attempt to solve people's complaints about crafting breaks that's probably so messed up in code that they couldn't just take breaks out even if they wanted to. Synergy has the HQ tier system. It is still unknown to me just how it works but apparently it's really high from my experience when you're 20+ levels above a cap.

You'll want to do no more than 10-15 levels above your current skill. DO NOT waste your time doing a skill 50 recipe for skill ups. They are as slow as anything ever and ever. I made the mistake of following the known skill up strats at the time and had horrible slow results. I caught wind of the 10-15 level gap idea and it worked wonders. Also can do dark fewell skill ups through operate furnace which brings skill ups faster but it's more costly. You should at least use thwack furnace option as it's free use and will get you skill ups time from time.. maybe 10% chance.

If you have access to haste spell, use it during Synergy and pick a recipe that will use earth fewell. Earth element explosions will put slow on you. If you have haste it will be nullified thereby allowing you to keep spamming Earth fewell until the furnace runs out of Energy, which is ultimately how you skill Synergy, spamming fewell and sometimes just not worrying about any furnace operations. Any action can get you skill ups, though it's generally accepted that you need to use fewell for the given recipe and not something unrelated.

There are other more advanced stuff about Synergy but all of this should get you started. Lastly, do not forget to train a skill every 5 levels of Synergy. Talk to the NPC and it's one of the options down at the bottom of the list. I chose feed fewell, thwack furnace, and repair furnace but those are by no means gospel choices.

Lastly part II, some craft skills are required to skill up my way. Cooking and alchemy, mostly. These days though there are better options without crafts involved. From the start, you can do teleport earrings to 20 > find a feet abj or god seal and do that to like 30 > other abj body pieces or more teleport earrings > Myth nugget(earth fewell) to get close to 50 > gold nugget to 60 > etc etc. Just check out wikis to have a better idea at options.

When you are at caps and ready to make items, choose end synergy to finish. But do not worry about that menu option until you are ready to make items, and not during skill ups. Making items are simple but takes practice to get the hang of it. But it boils down to matching elements up.

No other craft skill is required to simply raise synergy skill. It's only required to do most anything useful with it other than the teleport earrings. Just use nuggets; they can get you basically al the way and you can just sell the mats back when you're done.

If you don't want to raise crafts, and also don't want to try and skill up on stuff 50 levels above you, look into the various etching recipes. That's what I used starting out, etching gear for evoliths. You can do bone harness to 10, padded armor to 20, silk coat to 30, behemoth knife to 40... the items you use can of course differ, these are just examples of items that cap at those levels.
