Last month I bought Final Fantasy XI: Ultimate Collection Abyssea Edition. This month I want to link my FFXI to my Square Enix so I can utilize the new system. Everytime I try to link/transfer my ID it just says "This PlayOnline ID cannot be transferred". I have a brand new Square Enix account and nothing has been linked to it yet.

Maybe you can't link it because it's still under the free month?

POL tells me to to have my account linked/transferred. Square Enix account tells me I can't link/transfer my account.

You are certain that you are trying to Link it first, which is what you need to do before being able to Transfer?

When does it actually complain you about the PlayOnline ID?
At the part where you enter it to be Linked?
Does it say anything else than just "no can do"?
I have a faint memory of something about the Free Trial and this Transferring period, but I really can not remember for sure, and even less what it was really. I can't find it anywhere right now at least, either, but if it was because of this, I highly doubt it would not clearly state it in the FAQs and at the site when you try to Link it.
So I really doubt it's about that, but can't be sure either.
Another thing I can't remember for sure right now is if you have to have a payment method set up before you can do the Linking. This I would assume the site would clearly state as well though, but eh...
As a side note, you will likely not get an official response here, other than one locking the thread and suggesting you to contact the Account/Billing Support (since this is not really a technical issue, and they can not/will not offer support via the forum).
So contacting them via a phone or the chat support (check the Support Centre) would be what they usually tell people to do. I would probably eMail them personally, but to get a response can take a while and is not that likely to help even.
Anyways, just some thoughts~
