Looking for a good way to solo Ice and Thunder staves. Thunder looks like it will be a huge pain since half of the mobs aren't present in Abyssea(Beetles/Slimes) and no Thunder IV yet.

You really need to solo them? There's usually a small party of Blms at each trial spot working together since everyone gets credit from a death blow.
If you have to do it solo, just melee the mobs down to low HP then finish with a nuke if the mobs aren't present in abyssea.
I've done a nuking wind staff (which no one does) and that's how I did it mainly. I really suggest finding a party for whatever trials you can especially the later trials. Ice should be easy. Not sure how popular a thunder staff is though.

I got partway through wind (level 80) before I got sick of it, I'll go back after a trip or something. You can do the last stage of Ice at Cape Riverne iirc. Aside from level Blm I'd suggest getting a melee friend bring them down low for you (would almost certainly be faster than you doing it solo) and then you just nuke it dead at low health. Do it yourself should be either your last option, or because you really have nothing better to do.

You know RDM can't equip it, right?

Not sure what you mean... Rdm can use all elemental magian staves. They can't use the STP/WS damage Staff or the Emp/WoE/DA/OaT Staves.

Why didn't anyone tell me this before I worked for so long getting my wind staff that I use on a regular basis to solo stuff in abysea on my Rdm.
...oh wait

I started off trying to do it this way but eventually I found it faster to just nuke mobs down and finish with the correct element.
At the moment I'm working on a Thunder staff (slime trial) and I've yet to encounter these supposed hordes of Black Mages teaming up at trial camps. Perhaps it's just that they've all finished by this point and I missed the boat.
The trials are tedious and dumb, but the end results are well worth it, not only for the huge boost to nuking damage, but also the sweet sweet casting time -12%.

Are you referring to the Empy? (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Staff_Trials)

I've been thinking about starting a magian staff, but not sure what to make aside from Cure Potency. Magic Accuracy hasn't been an issue, so I'm thinking about one for nuke damage. Any suggestions? More than likely going to be ice since I have ice merits anyway.

The ice staff is a good starting point as far as elemental nuking staves go. It's the fist one I've completed and I'm very pleased with the results. It's like dual-wielding HQ elemental staves and wearing an extra pimp hat, you can't possibly go wrong with it.

I feel like no moatter how much MAB or +Ice affinity Atma I use or MAB or INT gear I wear, mobs always survive to 1% from a Bliz IV->Bliz III combo in Abyssea. Hopefully Ice Staff will change this.

Sounds like a good one to start then. My wife has one for her BLM, and she swears by it, even gets on me for not having one yet, lol.

Doh! Seems that this is the only weapon that this applies to. All other weapons are the same jobs for all trials. I didn't scroll down past the empy weapon, but I guess I should have noticed seeing as I know that whms wear the +22% cure potency staff, but they also aren't on the empy.
My bad >.>
