View Full Version : Black screen reboot
Okay I am about at the end of my rope with this issue. It started last month when they crashed the billing system. I was playing and ll of a sudden I was knocked off. Don't remember the error but it was related to the billing system crash. Ever since then except for a brief period of time like maybe a week whenever i switch to my main character ... the screen goes black (not blue) and my computer restarts. Doesn't happen with any of my mules. I have reloaded the game, setup port-forwarding, even removed all my anti-spyware and anti-virus software and still the problem persists. Is it possible that since I was playing on my main when they booted me that there is data corruption on the server? Can they rebuild my character? I have downloaded all current device drivers as well ... anyone have an idea?

It is usually very difficult to find a reason for such issues, especially if they're of random'ish nature as they often are.
And then there is the possibility of malicious software being at play.
If it happens when you log-in on a specific characters only, and does that always (are you able to log-in on that particular character at all?), it could be an indication of data corruption indeed, but more so on your hard-drive than the server, which I can not see being able to affect your machine in such a way.
That said, you could try running a check on the hard-drive, and for further assistance, information of your Operating System and hardware would be really helpful, and needed even.
Here is a template you can use and tips and information on what to add, check the thread:

Here's the thing ... back when all the content I's got cancelled I was playing and the system bumped me off with an error code that I do not remember but it was related to the no ID issue. I believe that since I was bumped while in game the system corrupted the data relatred to that character and the damage is on the sever. Just tonight I started windows in diagnostic mode ... no devices or background programs running and it still rebooted as soon as I started that character. All mules work fine even in the same zone where my main characyer crashes. Ergo .. the problem is not on my computer. I just wonder if SE can rebuild my character ...

They can't rebuild your character, since their servers are on fire, flooded, heavily irradiated and occupied by Somali pirates.
But seriously, account issues cannot cause your PC to crash. They simply can't.
Corrupted files ON YOUR PC, or graphic driver conflicts ON YOUR PC will however. Perhaps even a damaged HD or dying video card.
Scan for damaged sectors in windows, then try to repair the FFXI files using POL.
You could also try to log in from another PC.

Onyx,
We apologize for the problems you are experiencing, however Kristal is correct. While there may have been issues in July with the billing system that led to some PlayOnline accounts becoming cancelled, this would have no affect on the character data itself, beyond making that character unavailable due to having been cancelled.
If your computer itself is restarting, this is indicative of a problem with the hardware itself. One (or more) pieces of hardware could be failing or have failed, such as RAM, processor(s), video card(s), etc. The computer may be overheating, or the power supply may be insufficient for the hardware’s needs.
Unfortunately as the problem is with your computer hardware, and not the FINAL FANTASY XI game software, there is little more that we would be able to provide for troubleshooting steps. We would recommend contacting your computer’s manufacturer for further assistance at this time.
We will, however, leave this thread open for the community to try to lend further assistance as well.
