View Full Version : Ranger 3 minute hate transfer, I can't be reading this right
So I was looking at this:
How long will the "ability that increases enmity towards party members positioned between the ranger and his/her target" last?
This ability will last around 3 minutes, and effects will take place for every ranged attack during this time. We do not plan on implementing a long recast time.
If we are the hate specialists the dev team wants whats up with that? That effectively just gave as much hate direction to ranger as to the specialist job.

Yah, I looked at that and was in absolute disbelief, First Bounty shot (TH) now a 3 minute long Trick Attack.
But I know I'm overreacting, for all we know this could only transfer ~5% of the Enmity generated to the player inbetween the RNG and the mob.
Either way, if its a true 100% Enmity transfer for 3 minute duration... They got some 'splaining to do when they tell us THF is suppose to be the master Of Enmity control. It was literally their only use for THF described in the Manifesto.
I guess steal?Despoil will be really god on HNMs....Oh.. they dont work on NMs...... right... and 5 minute Aura Steal = Broken to the point they wont adjust it.
Blood Rage and Impetus are cool though, Raising your Crit-Rate/Dmg to Abyssea levels anywhere is totally an okay non-broken ability but being able to Dispel every 5 minutes is absolutely game-shattering.
F*CK I try so hard not to rage at the Dev team but seriously, i can't think of any better way to explain it except:

Its like, Lets let WAR drop 12k WS on the fly, but Aura Steal is too broken to adjust sorry. Yes its an exaggeration i know... but the fudged up thing is that its not even that big of an Exaggeration,

I hear ya, brother.
After all of this rolls in, makes me wonder, what will happen to the current hate control masters - Paladins, will THF take their place in job hierarchy? (irony/sarcasm). Hell, if I'm supposed to control hate almost bare handed (all of our JAs being either long recast, short range, ineffective in capped hate situations or generating minimum enmity or just plain.. not needed) I want to at least be able to wield Ochain/Aegis with some silver/gold armor and look cool in Jeuno (THF has some native skill in Shields, for some reason).
Impetus, Blood Rage, Bounty Shot, this new ability etc, were all good/cool ideas, but given to the 'wrong' jobs if you consider classic fantasy/RPG settings.
But, in a way it was nice to hear that Devs consider THF a very powerful class, made me feel appreciated. (haha, joking!)

The only way I can think of that a lowered timer on aura steal would be broken is on yovras but who gives a crap lol. JoL can be dropped in 90 seconds if you want and if you are holding it for AV regen purposes then you can't kill it in less than 30 minutes. So that leaves us with Ovni which people already solo all day long. Some kind of explanation about how aura steal would be broken if even made slightly better would be wonderful. The first time I read the reply I was like "....wtf" and now the more I think about it I'm like "WWWTTTTTTFFFFFFF"

I'm not convinced that this new JA will do all that much. Assuming it only transfers a portion of the ranger's hate to whomever they stand behind it won't do much to manage ranger hate (we'll still be top of the hate list when the tank dies and we'll be sharing the top of the hate list toward the end of long fights). If it fails to transfer hate and just increases the hate of the tank it will be more than worthless. What ranger really needs is a hate reset ability... I wish SE would just give us one already.
Also as far as bounty shot goes: have no fear about being replaced by ranger as the TH guru. Bounty shot won't take TH up very high (only level 3 or 4) and after that it has no effect. SE can try to make rng more thf like but they're just wasting their time.

Hoshi About bounty shot i cant get it to go over 4 myself and when i had a rng come to my faf/nid run to help me proc th up he couldnt raise it since i started off with th6. Maybe its low proc rate but if so its VERY low its no way rng can replace thf as th

They won't replace THF as a TH, i was just mentioning more as "Continuing to relieve THF of anything unique".
Bounty shot can take it above 4, its just incredibly Rare, I know some people who go for upgrade items from Faf/behe/Ada bring RNGs to continually bounty-shot with THFs actively fighting, sometimes getting TH~12 or higher. just really rare.

Yeah this is True kinda hard to see a everything that made thf being given to other jobs even if it is weaker, but i guess we did get DW like nin just a weaker version atm but they could give us something else cool from other jobs >.>, like blood rage maybe or Impetus which would really help are job out and seems like a thf type thing since we have crit attack bonus as well we should have a way to raise are crit rate as well we not saying other jobs that have it dont need it. but i guess we still have steal and mug >.>.
Off topic: We got DW1 at 83 and DW 2 between 86-90 so the min we could have got it was 3 lvl's highly unlikely tho and max is 6, i was thinking it would be every 5 lvls which would mean we get DW2 at 88 so DW3 would be 93 so a chance for DW4 at 98. highly unlikely but if we got it every 4 lvls it would go 83 87 91 95 99 for DW5 if 6 we would be stuck at DW3 idk anyone lvling thf so i would have to Delvl to see where we get DW2 at, but maybe we will get a good Trait from another job after all.

To me it looks like on one hand SE perceives THF as hate manipulator and want to expand on the idea in the future, and at the same time you get stuff like Enmity Douse, DRG thingies and this RNG thingy, which contradict the idea of specialization and water it down to the point of gimmick no one really cares about.
I think about the role of an "enmity manipulator" specialist job...and I can't think of a reason anyone would be happy about absolutely NEEDING a THF there to keep hate on the tank or else everyone dies.
On a monster hard enough to warrant this, you would have to make it so that a PLD could not hold hate on its own. I can't imagine any PLD, FINALLY being relevant for challenging endgame content again, being happy about his inability to hold hate without the help of a THF.
It would also have to mean that every other DD and mage would get their face raped and unable to do their respective jobs unless a THF was there to constantly/actively control the enmity situation.
I don't know a lot of people that would be happy about that....I sure wouldn't. This does not sound like a fun Vana'diel to me.
That aside, this is of course forgetting that anything even remotely close to resembling "enmity control" is IMPOSSIBLE with THF abilities in their current state. It would take, not only a drastic overhaul of current enmity abilties, but the addition of several new ones....all with recast timers much lower than anything we have ever seen.
Let's not kid ourselves about this.....that is never going to happen. Their idea of fixing collaborator and accomplice was to increase the range by 4 yalms. They feel aurasteal would be overpowered if seperated. Their "vision" for THF is that of a "stealthy pickpocket" but yet they don't want us to be able to actually steal anything of relevance.
This is really absurd....especially when we consider that they added ANOTHER useless steal ability (post 75) while saying they don't want us actually stealing items...I don't know what to say. That's nuts lol.
Their "vision" is in direct contradiction, not only with the climate, culture and playstyle of 2011 FFXI, but even with itself in various ways.
I really wish they would forget about "enmity control" and THF altogether. That road leads nowhere for me. I'd rather they gave us more utilies with "fattening our parties loot pools"....whatever that means to them.
Rework steal abilities to steal monster's loot, but put them into lottable treasure pools instead. More TH tweaks (or a TH potency increase). Make looting NM's, somehow active and tied to meleeing.....TH abiliites that cost TP? An ability akin to bounty shot that's only purpose is to attempt a forced TH proc.....something....anything.
I just wish they'd talk to us before they decide to make all these weak changes and add useless abilities. Because they really don't seem to know what goes on in the life of a THF in today's FFXI.
