View Full Version : The Mysteries of Vana 'Diel

Are there things about Vana 'Diel that you don't understand? If you do, here's the place to ask. If you have answers, enlighten us (Especially if your name is Camate).
Why are there undead out during the day in The Sanctuary of Zitah? I can understand this with the Northlands, but here?
What's the deal with that one Coeurl in Behemoth's Dominion?
There are NPCs in Norg and Kazam that block your path to tunnels. What were they blocking? What were they supposed to go to? If SE figured there's be easier ways to get there, that's great! We'd just like our curiosity sated.
There's a stairway going downstairs in the Sacrarium. Was this merely cosmetic, or was this to serve a purpose?
There's a cave in Konstant Highlands that doesn't go anywhere. What was it supposed to be for?
So, about the Arena. Is this ever going to be used?

I've always wondered what the random staircase under the presidents office in Metalworks was supposed to be for (can see it through the wall if you position yourself right, or...)
My best guess was that it was a way to board the train/tram/trolly w/e you wanna call it that goes to the unused zones.

As far as the undead during the day, given Zi'Tah is such a dark place, since most of the sun is blocked off by the large amount of trees, and just as well, the huge size of those trees, barely any sun gets through, allowing them to stay around during daytime hours. At least, that's my take on it.

The Undead shaded by trees has always been my guess as well.
Maybe that one Coeurl was cut off just like the gigas were, or they have "attractions" to the Headstones. I don't know. XD
I always thought they were blocking shortcuts to Norg or something. They just piss me off by being there needlessly!
Stairway? Downstairs? There are a lot of these D; I can't help you there.
The cave in Kons is the spawnplace for the bomb NM during the SAM quest. Or at least one of them is. Maybe it was the other end of the rockslide that happened in Grauberg; if you go to witchfire glen there is also a sealed off cave. Hell, there are multiple within Grauberg XD
No.

Those are used for Relic Weapons Covenant.
---
In King R.'s Tomb, on the lower floors, around the area where those 2 slimes spawn, behind the walls (like, if you angle it right) theres Tunnels that look like a zoneline. like there were going to be other entrances but decided against it.
A lot of places go nowhere, The tunnels in Kazham, the Ship in Norg, etc. All these things are probably put in the game incase they add a use for them later. Chances are we'll never see uses for them, they are just "Just in case" zone lines.
I for one feel the unused Cave in Konsch should lead to a tunnel similar to Korroloka, which leads to Grauberg Present.

I think the Norg Ferry was supposed to go to Aht Urgan Whitegate, especially with their connections to the Tenshodo. After all, they're undead pirates, which makes me think of the Ephramaud. Then they realized it's a pain to use either Kazam or Norg as way-points, having to get someplace just to get someplace else. And so, they said "screw it" and made the way-point Mhaura.
I for one feel the unused Cave in Konsch should lead to a tunnel similar to Korroloka, which leads to Grauberg Present.
I betcha they planned to double up on Konshstat et al all-along, and the cave was where the Maw was gonna be. Consider the caves in Valkurm and Qufim which warp you to the Tavnazian areas. Speculation? You bet. Oh Camateeeeeeeee.........

What is the purpose for the tree root gates in The Boyhada Tree, the ones guarded by Mandragora NPC's? I vaguely remember one being used for a quest or mission, can't recall exactly. I had always hoped they were guarding Dragon Eggs so we could eventually raise Dragons for transport.

Gusgen? If i recall it was explained during the Bastok quests.
It used to be a heavy Mining area for Bastok, However on one day, it was something along the lines of "Visit your parents" Day, where the children came to the mines to see their dads in work. Then a fiend cause a colossal cave-in throughout the mines which trapped/killed everyone inside. The ~8 NM ghosts are named after Workers and the way in which they died, the spirits you see floating around are the Miners and their Children's ghosts.
The NM that caused it was Juggler Hecatomb, it spawns every ~21/24 In the basement. If you notice when you go to the basement, theres actually a gigantic hole in the ceiling (Which you can drop down from above right onto the NM), This is how he caused the tremors/cave-in.
On the topic of Gusgen mines, why is it if you get clay from the zone and approach water you can hear eerie moans/groans/crying? Urgh. I always get creeped out and chuck my clay before I make it back out of the mines.
Why are some of the guards in the Hall of Gods missing their heads or limbs?

Those are dead children, I explained that :D!
Why are some of the guards in the Hall of Gods missing their heads or limbs?
They probably broke when Sky rose. If you look at old zilart pictures in the Temple of Uggalepih, You can see a picture of Ro'Maeve, and Sky still on the ground. If i recall the damage to those statues happened when Sky rose above the clouds.
Yes but Ro' Maeve didn't rise, and the Hall of Gods is kind of attached to the ground still. There's a few stairways that lead up to it, but it's not in the air like Tu'Lia.
Also in (E-6) on the second map of Gusgen, if you just stand there for a moment, you can hear this really creepy growl. It sounds like a wounded Wyvern. Ugh, this place is creepier than I remember it being.
As for the children, I'm not sure if it's them? There's nothing in the water where the crying comes from and it only starts happening when I hold the clay.

If I recall correctly - bahamut and his wyrms attacked the zilart installations the ro'maeve area. Id probably say that the damage in the hall of the gods and ro'maeve area was caused by kuluu and wyrm attacks. Just like the damage incurred in sky. Cermet as you know is pretty much everlasting. The crags are all in perfect condition. Only sustained attacks could probably destroy those installations. There are pictures in the temple of uggalephi that back up this.

More advanced than using magic, fighting dragon gods, the ability to cross into different dimensions and time travel. Makes sense to me.

Also Delkfutts control room.

I believe they said they wanted to leave this up to the imagination of the players. If someone wanted to imagine it as fur, then it's fur. If someone wanted to imagine they were tan, then they're tan.
I prefer the tan argument myself.

If you zone into Lufaise Meadows from Valkurm, there's a ??? at the top of the tunnel. What is this for? It is not for any CoP missions, and it is not the ??? for the ram NM.
South of the same tunnel, if you look over the cliff, you can see what looks like a small village. Any story behind this? Note: I'm not talking about the fomor cliff with the view of Tavnazia.
There's a small mention of Alfard being the primary threat that wiped out Bastok. Is there any similar story to Orthrus and Apadmak?

The damage to Sky and Ro'Maeve is for the most part natural erosion. Ro'Maeve has been battered by over 10,000 years of rain, lightning, golems stomping around, bombs, running water, and the roots of the Sanctuary's trees are breaking through the foundation. Sky has had 10,000 years of high winds, the streams, and plants wearing it away. Neither of these places have had any upkeep either, and monstrous "gods" have claimed them as home. We know the high concentrations of magic have created violent monsters too, as seen by the weapons and the pirates they slaughtered in Sky.
The creatures of Lumoria have been locked in a timeless paradox for over 10,000 years. Some of them are fading out of our dimension, their physical forms gone and naught left but quasilumins. Talking...Like....This......Is....Supposed....To....Express.....That....Like....their....Words....Are...Traveling....Far.....
If you zone into Lufaise Meadows from Valkurm, there's a ??? at the top of the tunnel. What is this for? It is not for any CoP missions, and it is not the ??? for the ram NM.

I don't think the names of sky mobs are specifically what they do, their original names are long lost and the names they have are arbitrary names given to them by adventurers. We're in the gardens, lets call em garden related names.
Even if they are programmed to take care of sky, those despot placeholders really suck at groundskeeping btw, there don't seem to be very good at it. The overgrowth is running rampant. Trees and grass have borne through the foundation of sky itself, as evidence of the roots everywhere and tearing through the ground/sides, and the grasses and mosses growing all over the ground and constructs. The state of sky itself is a testament to their failure to do their jobs.
The Shu'Meyo Cataclysm has been given many potential causes, but the blast area originates from where Al'Taieu would be if the crystal line defense system wouldn't have sucked it into the last mothercrystal. Possible causes are:
The attack on Fei'Yin caused a power surge in the crystal line, the celestial capital was a hub of the crystal line.
Bahamut's full powered assault on Al'Taieu.
The activation of Al'Taieu's defense system itself, seems possible as it put Bahamut out for a long time, with almost no harm to the city.
I believe all three of these happened in rather quick succession, and they all seem to be extremely powerful events in the Zilart war.
Karbuncle
08-02-2011, 01:45 AM
thats right, Now i recall.
The defense mechanism was to send Tu'Lia into the Crystal or something like that. So Tu'lia was Sent inside the Galkan Crystal (The same reason Galkas "reincarnate", its because they have no mother crystal, its inside Tu'Lia, which is inside the crystal...)
Thats why the zone "Empyreal Paradox" is named thusly. The Crystal is inside the Capital, but the entire capital is inside the crystal. So its a Crystal in a palace inside of itself. Paradox.
Thats what cause it i believe, was when the defense was activated and it caused that.

Al'taieu seems to be the "missing" part of Qufim Island as Bahamut rises from the Shu'meyo Sea at the beginning of CoP. The palace defense mechanism that shifted the whole palace into the Al'taieu crystal was also the device holding off the Wyrmking at the time.

i think you can read all (or most) of the game text on wikia. just click on the mission path you want, go to the bottom, and then click the next mission. not very 'novel' like, but if all the dialog is there, still viable.

Divine Magic is radiant. Divine Magic is derived from elements which radiate energy, making it easier to generate an "area of effect" -- pun intended.
Dark Magic is the exact opposite. It absorbs light, and has a tendency to collapse in on itself. Making it harder to expand it into an effect that spread across an area. That's why Absorb/Aspir/Absorb-Stat abilities draw from one place and "collapse" into another as single target.

In one of the missions involving Fei'yin, a NPC says they found ruins similar to Fei'yin on Cape Teriggan. What is this supposed to be?
The cermet headstone near the Cloister of Gales is made of the same material as the Fei'yin structure.
Why is Kingslayer Doggvdegg (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Kingslayer_Doggvdegg) in Limbus?
This is a tough one.
If we assume Doggvdegg fell into the Crystal line after the battle with him in the WOTG Sandy mission then it's possible he remained there in limbo until the Al'taieu crystal became linked to the system during the events of CoP.
It isn't exactly impossible seeing as Lion pulled off a similar stunt that sidelined her from the conclusion of Zilart until the post-CoP followup in Apocalypse Nigh.

Year 1129 of the Crystal Era just began. What event marks the start of the "Crystal Era," though?
The star Gordeus in the Constellation of Alexander went supernova and lit up the night sky for an entire year.
AKA, the last Ragnarok.

Apollyon is the Greek word for Abbadon, which is Hebrew for "Place of Destruction" or "The Depths of Hell". Temenos originally meant an area set aside for the worship of gods, but has come to mean the plane of a deity.
I think that Limbus is one of the afterlives of Vana'diel.

I think the Heaven/Hell comparison is only meant to be cosmetic.
In reality, Apollyon is the Promyvion of the Al'taieu Crystal. The Emptiness surrounding the crystal has created an area of exploration culminating in the battle with Proto-Omega which was last active during the battle against Bahamut.
I seem to recall a Quasilumin explaining why exactly both Apollyon and Temenos are populated with monsters. I'll have to look that up shortly.

I guess I should have been more clear. I meant that Apollyon and Temenos are both types of hell which is why they are both full of very bad things.
Originally Apollyon and Temenos were called "Lower Promyvion" and "Ou'Hpat Obelisk" respectively. In the update that ushered in Limbus (or maybe the one right before it, it has been a while) the names were changed to what they are now. (Nag'molada mentions Ou'Hpat Obelisk in one of the cutscenes even after the name changes.) That really doesn't have much to do with this discussion, just a neat bit of trivia since you mentioned Apollyon being Al'taieu's Promyvion.

The Light Protocrystal is a good question. Alexander is the odd man out with the Celestial Avatars, outside of summoning, he only manifests in vessels. (And even as a summon he manifests in the form of his last vessel.) It is possible that the in-story reason for the lack of a Light Protocrystal is that it was lost when the Gordeus went supernova in the last Ragnarok, but even then he was summoned in a vessel, so it is hard to say. It is possible that the Light Protocrystal could be under Qufim, the basement of Lower Delkfutt's Tower could lead to deeper levels that we cannot reach where it could exist in cannon.
I would hazard a guess that the three non-functioning ancient apparatuses were something that they planned on using but never got around to. Maybe they were going to add a fourth one in an expansion zone and give them level 2 skillchain properties. In the Jeuno quest data files there are unused quests for each of the 8 elements called "Mystery of (Element)". It is thought that this was how we were originally supposed to operate the Strange Apparatuses, but even that leaves out the three non-functioning ones. It is always possible that they might remember that they exist and decide to add in something for them later.

If you're talking about "Strange apparatus", They're used in a mini-quest to get items like the Arcane Flower pot, Rune Weapons, Cermet, and Crystal Clusters.
Decoration i think :X, some of them have prisoners inside.
See!! THIS is what makes this game brilliant! :)

Because Tarutaru are the Master Race and don't deign to lie with their lessers.
More seriously, though, Tarutaru are the only ones that have demonstrably procreated. Almost without exception, if there is a mother, a father, and a child together, they're Tarutaru. Most other races have childless couples and single-parent households.

This is actually a good question.
I'd guess this means that Humes and Elvaans are very closely related. I haven't gone through the entire WoTG missions, but as far as I know, it remains to be seen whether Lilisette is fertile or not.
I think any other combination doesn't work because they are too genetically dissimilar.
Of course, this is a fantasy game where the 5 races come from crystals, or the tears of Altana, or one of those Legendary wild dates between Altana and a drunken Promethia (I don't even want to think about the chains....) or whatever the retconned origin is. So, maybe we don't have to worry about details like compatible genes. Excuse me, I here mitochlorians calling.

My personal belief is that Carbuncle would have more to do with the Light Protocrystal than any other Avatar. If I remember correctly, Carbuncle is actually supposed to be one of the strongest, isn't he? He just is the least connected to Vana'diel as compared to the others. I may be wrong about this, or remembering it wrong, but the fact that only he is pretty much the only one who has extended conversations with the players makes me feel as though he's the only one who's representative of his true self, and as such, more likely to be significantly powerful. He's only as weak as he is because without a baseline summon Summoner would be too dominating in appearance. The absence of a Light Protocrystal could be indicative of why Carbuncle is weaker than the rest -- because he has no means of fully projecting himself into the real world like the representations of the other avatars do.
Or at least, that's my assessment. I'm pretty sure they said that the other avatars are just shadows or remnants of the real ones.
I could be wrong with all of that, its been ages since I've seen a SMN cutscene.

This. Half a hume is still twice the size of a Tarutaru.
Tarutaru could have largely dominant genes, though. Anything that is half taru is born looking fully taru -- that's not too far fetched.
I don't, personally, understand what the purpose of making Galka and Mithra completely separate races, myself.

You've got avatar lore a bit mixed up.
Carbuncle is one of the terrestrial avatars like Bahamut, Fenrir, Diabolos and Phoenix. These avatars are called terrestrials because they are merely magical beings created after Altana split the mothercrystal and created Vana'diel.
The celestial avatars however are immortal beings who existed before Altana created Vana'diel but are currently dormant save for Alexander and Odin. The fear the terrestrials have always had is that if awakened, the celestials would attempt to reunite the crystals and destroy Vana'diel thus bringing the world back to "paradise" meaning the end of their lives.
Sound familiar? The Zilart attempted to revert the world to "paradise" but were stopped by the Kuluu who would be destroyed if the plan succeeded. Bahamut assisted the Kuluu because he knew that he too stood to be destroyed if the world were to be reverted.
Skip forward thousands of years and you have Carbuncle's current plan.
Carbuncle believes that by making pacts with the races of Vana'diel, the celestials might change their minds about reverting the world to paradise when awakened by becoming attached to the lesser beings who have flourished in their absence.
Alexander would be the individual with a protocrystal since he is the celestial avatar of light, however I do not believe SE has ever given us a definitive reason as to how he was awakened or even where his protocrystal is.
What we do know is that Alexander has been awake a long time and much like Odin has not attempted to revert the world back to paradise due to their ongoing feud and the ego trip he seems to get from being worshiped by the individuals on Vana'diel. They keep building him physical bodies afterall.
Odin seems to be enjoying himself so much with the concept of building up an army and creating "knights" out of the inhabitants of Vana'diel that he stands to lose if the world were reverted to its original state.
Simply put, Odin and Alexander enjoy Vana'diel because it gives them purpose even though the way they go about their purpose leads to death and destruction for the inhabitants. Very much like kids and their toys huh?

Gear changes mid-fight, I've taught sword-fighting (and other weapons for that matter) for rennasaince fairs, SCA and the like; if you take the time to change armor between swings you'll be dead by the 2nd swing, not to mention some armor actually needs assistance to get on, particularily plate armor. On the other hand, if you have decent hand speed and agility you can change weapons pretty much without penalty.
Why can't we throw knives? Honestly, I have a dart board with 3 of them in it in my home office.

In one of the missions involving Fei'yin, a NPC says they found ruins similar to Fei'yin on Cape Teriggan. What is this supposed to be?
Fei'Yin was a Kuluu settlement. Same as Horutoto and the Temple of Ugga. They might've had a settlement that failed on take on Teriggan. Alternatively, it was something they built to interact with Garuda's protcrystal. The Kuluu created Summoning magic after they were exiled by the Zilartians. Was the reason Zilartians were afraid of the Kuluu and tried to purge the Emptiness from them, since the taint of Emptiness was what prevented them from hearing The Whisper of the Soul that allowed psychic communication between Zilartians. They wanted to remove the difference between them so they wouldn't have to be afraid of an army of Summoner prols rising up to crush the psychic bourgeoisie.

I thought the Celestial Avatars were created after the formation of Vana. They're called the Celestial Avatars because they're their own constellations. There was a whole series on the legends of each of those avatars back when they were doing the Tribune still. They were all mortals that moved the heart of Altana with their actions in life, so she called them and someone important to them to Heaven and they became a constellation/Celestial Avatar. Like Garuda was a bird that healed her master's illness, Ifrit was some monstrous general that repented for his deeds. Each of the brightest stars in the sky (the colored ones) is part of their constellation and named after the person or thing called up with them.
The Terrestrial Avatars were just bound to Vana because they were in charge of the Mothercrystals.
That's just what I remember from the tribunes though, there might be something in the Smn storyline that contradicts that and those are just fun stories and legends people made about the stars.

Well. Hexaguns aren't machine guns. They're pepperbox guns. Pepperbox guns are what predated revolvers. You'd have multiple barrels that could each be preloaded, like the wheel of a modern revolver but with extra long chambers. But the wheel didn't spin when you pulled the trigger or cocked the hammer the way they do in modern single and double action revolvers. So after firing each shot you'd have to grip the barrels and spin them with your hand to the next shot. The advantage was that you have a bunch of shots loaded up already so you wouldn't have to open the breech and fumble with another bullet.
FFXI's other guns are all single-shot rifles of some kind, or stubby shotguns, I dunno. But they all have much longer delays than hexaguns, which fits with the model of a pepperbox gun having lots of shots ready to go.

The stories about the Celestial avatars seem to be written from the point of view of an ordinary citizen of Vana'diel. Most Vana'dielians know nothing about the Kuluu/Zilart conflict, the emptiness or that they are the result of the meltdown that happened in the wake of the earlier conflict.
The stories of the celestials seem to be nothing more than myth. A way for the people of Vana'diel to explain what they don't know.
What the player learns through RoTZ and CoP is a vastly different story that leaves no way for the celestials to have existed as mortals.
Altana created the world from the Mothercrystal, the Zilart attempted to reverse this process and were stopped by the Kuluu and Terrestrial avatars who would cease to exist if Vana'diel were destroyed. The conflict led to the dawn of the races that currently occupy the world.

This is correct, the Celestial Avatars came first. The 8 Celestial Avatars fell into slumber when the Mother Crystals were separated, Carbuncle fears that if they wake up they will attempt to merge the Mother Crystals back together to restore Paradise.
If I remember the story correctly the Terrestrial Avatars were normal animals before the Mother Crystals were split, and if they are merged again they will go back to being normal animals. They were created to protect the Mother Crystals, but the are less powerful than the Celestial Avatars since they were created after Paradise.
Now here is my question. It was clearly stated that there are only 8 Celestial Avatars (one for each element): Ifrit, Shiva, Garuda, Titan, Ramuh, Leviathan, Alexander, and Odin. It was clearly stated that there are only 5 Terrestrial Avatars (one for each Mother Crystal): Carbuncle, Fenrir, Diabolos, Bahamut, and Phoenix. Then what are Cait Sith, Atomos, Dark Ixion, and Auroral Alicorn? We know where Cait Sith came from, but what about the rest? Are they a class of Avatars like Temporal Avatars, or do they have some other classification? Inquiring Summoners want to know!

I know that Dark Ixion and Auroral Alicorn have auras like avatars but are they really? They seem more like legendary creatures like Wyrms or Sandworms to me.
Was there any information other than that "Ixion is come!" article I missed out on?
I mean even Atomos can speak yet the Monoceros dont and they actually drop to the ground rather than self-dismiss like other avatar battles.

The only mystery that REALLY matters is the Cactuar Needle and Doll Gizmo one. They've been around for 8 years and have NO purpose!! No quest, no recipe, nothing! At least make Cactuar Needles used in some kind of Bolt or Arrow recipe and make Doll Gizmo used in a new PUP attachement or Frame.

This is why I ask the question. Before the advent of Magian Moogles the only things that had that aura were Avatars.
In the Ixion is Come! (http://wiki.bluegartr.com/bg/Ixion_is_Come%21) article (I archive pretty much everything), it is stated that Ixion has "fiery eyes burning with intelligence" and that Elvaan folk lore state that the Unicorns are sent by the Goddess to help the dying into the afterlife. That sounds fairly Avatar-ish, considering how the Cait Sith were born. But a definitive answer would be nice.
Why is Angelica's palette upside down?! D:<

I think the Ixions are creatures created by the Goddess much like how Cait Sith is an 'avatar' but technically is a small fragment of Altana's power, not a real Avatar per se. Atomos is another entity as it exist across space/time and is probably one of the Primordial entities of the Universe like the Celestial avatars that existed before the Mother crystal split. This is probably so since Altana can't impose her will directly on Atomos itself he is of equal or greater power.

Come to think of it, wouldn't Atomos be his own element? He's not celestial and he's certainly not terrestrial. Transcendent
Avatar would seem more likely since Altana's power can't control him (as seen in the Wings of the Goddess missions), but rather awaken him (using the feathers to travel through the dormant maws.) Atomos maws, however, have been used for other travel such as Abyssea. (And Shantotto hinted at it in Dissidia, but that's just a reference I believe.) They can be everywhere, and no where it seems...

It's different I think. The normal events that happened before we could travel in time still happened even after we stopped, so they're still extinct for the same reason before we could use the Maws. Whatever reason that may be. If we did keep killing them, then they would just become extinct a lot sooner.
It's different for Pixies because we were rescuing them rather than killing them. So I suppose we could assume that the monster who was carrying the Bottled Pixie was going to pull a Legend of Zelda and release it when it died in the midst of the war. Thus killing the Pixie? Which is why they were extinct before we messed with time.
I hope that all made sense, it's my theory and I'm sticking to it!

The rank-and-file in Jueno (probably even Wolfgang, the head of the Jeunoan Military) do not even know about Kam'lanaut and Eald'narche, the Armathrwn Society is keeping everyone in the dark about what the pair did and were planning on doing. when did Mithra's come to windy? and have they and taru always been friends?
Mithran Mercenaries were brought to Windurst to help during the Crystal War since the Tarutaru were so few in number and Cardians could only do so much. To honor their service and sacrifice, the Star Sybill gave them the Mithran Groves area of Windurst Woods and seats on the Parliament of Patriarchs.
The Mithra and Tarutaru had been allies long before the war, the Mithran Pirates and Windurst Navy conspired for years to block Bastok and Tavnazia from using shipping routes to the South and East through the Pamtam Straits until Bastok and Tavnazia joined together and waged the Elshimo Naval Battle.

The MHMU is part of a massive conspiracy to use adventurers as vessels for power. The modern adventurer system, which we are all a part of, allows us to gain power swiftly, but the moogles hold all the strings and can change this at any time. And depriving us of our levels is only part of their plan, not only will they render the nations powerless, but they will take that power unto themselves.
So, a lot of their time is spent filing reports on our actions to the MHMU and receiving correspondence on the latest aspects of the conspiracy. Thankfully though, moogles have grown attached to us over the years, and for the past decade or so their plan has been that it's far more useful to work with us than to stage a coup. But, should we ever decide to return to our mistrust of them (They ARE beastmen after all, and mankind once distrusted the furry little devils), they will not hesitate to take over and show us who's holding all the cards.

My question, in the Shadowreign era, relic weapons can be seen everywhere, most of the NPC's involved in the relic quests can be seen either as campaign NPC's or in WotG cutscenes. While there may be some NPC's with relics that don't show up, I can only think of one NPC who does show up, but without his relic, Mieuseloir B Enchelles, leader of the Crimson Wolves, and Wielder of Ragnarok. He is instead seen wielding a sword and shield. Why does he alone leave his relic at home?

Don't think the NPC had Ragnarok yet. Similarly Elvira isn't the girl in the CS that gives you Annihilator, instead it's Elrica. So some of the NPCs probably die and/or pass on their relics to others.
I think it's the opposite. Unless they changed the NPCs in the CSs when WotG came out, I'd think it's because Elivira may still be alive, just not seen. Kayeel-Payeel is alive AND seen, but no longer weilds Claustrum. I always assumed the CSs were ghosts of former owners that haunt the weapon. Which brings me to Guttler. Even in the Shadowreign era Guttler is possessed. As for Elivira, I thought I read that Annihilator was a family heirloom that was passed to her. So Elrica could be Elivira's Mother, Grandmother, etc. OR could be someone completely unrelated.
The guy who supposedly has Ragnarok can be seen in San d'Oria in the past, he has a Bloodsword/Gluttony Sword. It seems like I saw a video of the Excalibur CS and Kilhwch gives it to you.
BTW How is Dynamis connected to the past? You have to get a Shard of Necropsyche which is said to be remnants of a soul trapped in Dynamis. I always figued this was the soul of the person you meet.

Well, the original lore of it was that an elite group of soldiers known as the "Hydra Corps" were sent to the assault on Xarcabard, in the end darkness swallowed the land and they found themselves trapped in the realm of Dynamis. It was originally illustrated in one of the old tribunes, and there are CS's in the WotG cutscenes that play along with this. Several of the relic NPC's that you don't see in the past are introduced in one specific CS, and shortly after, you witness the catastrophe that supposedly swallowed them. It is unclear however, how the other NPC's like Kilhwch, Mieuseloir, Lhu Mhakaracca and the other's souls ended up trapped as well. This is all based off memory, so forgive me if I have messed up on a detail or two.

*spoilers*
In CoP 3-5 Diabolos says; "I am the ruler of dreams, and within my dreams--within my kingdom of Dynamis--people can escape the harshness of reality. Emptiness consumes the body, but the soul lives on--it lives on in my world." The original story of Dynamis is about Raogrimm's companions in their expedition to the Northlands trying to put his soul into rest as his soul is tortured by the memories of what he did in the war. About Hydra Corps, you can see them in a CS in WotG storyline wearing full sets of AF2s and relic weapons. So basically what we find to wear in Dynamis are Hydra Corps equipments. I assume that the shard of necropsyche is the essence of the original owner's soul who possessed the weapon in the first place.

I for one feel the unused Cave in Konsch should lead to a tunnel similar to Korroloka, which leads to Grauberg Present.
I would like to see them add all three of the unique past zones to the present and call them like "Grauberg Remnants" ect.
They would just be totally destroyed because of the war and could have all kinds of mean dead ends that make you zone all around creation to get to various new NM's (like KA)
I believe they said they wanted to leave this up to the imagination of the players. If someone wanted to imagine it as fur, then it's fur. If someone wanted to imagine they were tan, then they're tan.

What's with the very very ugly tree in Batallia Downs at D-5 called Aged Arbor? Why is it so... different.... And why is it there? There's no ???s, no NMs, no cutscenes about it or any quest that might involve it in any possible way, so what happened to it?
There is a 21-24 hour NM that spawns there. It is a treant that calls a bunch of saplings partway through the fight, and a stronger beetle NM pops when the treant is defeated.
The story behind the tree is that its a really, really old tree.

Thanks for the information, I'll have to look into it! I have been there very often for a reason or another (I like to show it to friends who don't believe me there's such a tree) and never seen anything!
What use are Cardian Cards? Cactaur needles?
Why are some of the Windurst tarutaru militia divisions named after constellations that don't exist in the skies? Why are some of the San D'Orian militia divisions named after animals that don't exist in the world?
Why don't we just tell one of the people waiting for their other half in Sandy and Jeuno that the other person is waiting on a different floor or part of the staircase? I get the joke and reference, but it's been years now and they still don't have a clue.

In the case of Tarutaru, their legs are basically one giant thunder-thigh that's barely usable for running. In the case of all other races, it is to show solidarity with their tiny, thunder-thighed compatriots.

Why is the intro video to the game based all around Tavnazia and most of the artifact quests go back to the great war and Tavnazia, even some areas in limbus (apollyon) resemble the tattered streets of tavnazia, and that random npc in safehold above auction house that talks about tavnazias "current state" basically saying those monsters in tavnazia now are very powerful, utterly challenging any player that reads this to say: "like hell i'll crush them all", yet we are never given the chance after all these years, wanna know what to do at 99 with all this untapped power we'll have?? Troop on over to tavnazia and stir up a sh*tstorm.

My totally uninformed and mostly unintelligent guess is that it makes Conspirator also affect the person with enmity.
Although Krabknuckle is onto something with it being a piece of equipment for Thief. I bet it adds +magic accuracy for that particular game day if the moon is over half-full, if and only if Tiamat's spawn window is open.

Let’s uncover a couple of these mysteries shall we?
Q: What’s with that lone Coeurl in Behemoth’s Dominion?
A: Seems like the Coeurl is all that remains of when this area of land was once vast and open. The landscape of Qufim was changed quite drastically during the ruin incurred by the ancients and Zilart and some of the creatures from that time still remain today.
Q: Whassup with all these caves all over the place that seemingly lead nowhere?
A: These areas were essentially created beforehand with the idea that they would lead to new areas which contain new content.
Q: Seriously though - Where do those stairs in the Sacrarium lead?
A: It could be a connection to a passageway that would allow priests to flee the Sacrarium safely.
Hoping to get some more soon :)

Makes me wonder if Qufim/B.Dominion was attached to Zi'tah at one point...
I'm a little confused now... is Lumoria supposed to fit in the cove of Qufim, or the entire circular area of water that runs from Beaucedine to Batallia to Rolanberry to Sauromunge then north along a coast just to the west of Zi'tah?
I'm thinking Lumoria pretty much occupied the entire Shu'Meyo sea, and Qufim is kinda a leftover that probably shifted it's position? The northern/eastern coastline of Qufim seems too small to compensate Lumoria...

From what I've heard the Shu'Meyo Sea is basically the crater formed by Al'taiu shifting into lumoria. If you look at the borders to the sea, you'll notice that the land is blacked and sometimes even has crystalline growths coming out of it. This was caused by it shifting.

You really didn't pay attention to the AF story, because it's all there. The Crimson Grimoire is what happens when a Grimoire like we normally have is infused with the blood of mages, specifically, the blood of your colleagues. That's why we can't have it (murder is bad and all). I would guess the Crimson Grimoire is what gives stratagems the behavior you see in the AF3 fight.
As for Gunther, his identity is explained in the G5 fight. There should be a youtube video of it somewhere that you can watch.

The pirates who live in Norg are former Tavnazians who no doubt picked up the art of necromancy from their trade relations with the Near East.
Aht Urhgan seemed to dabble in necromancy before the Lamia broke loose and decided to use the magic back on their own soldiers along with the Ephramadians.

Someone will probably prove me wrong, but I always assumed they once powered some of the things in Gusgen Mines or some other mine in that area. The only apparatus would be a single shaft going straight down, and the mine no longer being used would explain why the windmills are no longer manned.

From the Konschtat Highlands Stone Monument:
The wind that blows incessantly through this area is called "Odin's Wrath." Seeing its potential use, some ingenious Bastokers decided to build windmills here, a long time ago.
Flourmills, to be exact. In this desolate land where nothing more than potatoes can grow, the wheat brought in from San d'Oria was a true lifesaver to Bastokers.
San d'Oria, in turn, relied on their consumption of its surplus wheat, and also on the flour that came back from Bastok's mills. The mills became the symbols of their mutual dependence.
Even in times of war between the two, this trade continued. Both armies' brass were infuriated, but none tried to disrupt it lest the bread disappeared from their own tables! Ah, the irony!
A toast, to the merchants!

He died (some sort of disease or illness). His daughter continued his task of mapping the world after his death. There *are* more monuments than just the ones involved in the map quest.
La Theine Plateau
This plateau is a land of many features, but by far the most memorable is the Crag of Holla.
I call it a structure, for I have no other word. It is surely not a rock born of nature, nor does it seem to be a hall built by the gods, as the priestly scholars say.
Yet there are no seams in its bone-white surface, and it is faintly warm to the touch. But through a fortunate accident, I have found proof of its artificial origins.
I shall head north to the land of Valdeaunia to verify my findings. I fear this may be the longest, most perilous journey of my life.
I leave my daughter Enid to find her own path.
May the gods watch over her in my stead.
--Gwynham Ironheart, 764 Crystal Era.This is the last Stone Monument according to date from Gwynham, the rest for the Mindartia continent were from Enid. I organized them by year, Vunkerl Inlet comes between Rolanberry Fields and Batallia Downs, Grauberg comes between Valkurm Dunes and Pashhow Marshlands. (La Theine Plateau is after Pashhow Marshlands. Oddly enough, West Sarutabaruta, Buburimu Peninsula, Meriphataud Mountains, and Fort Karugo-Narugo are all the same year. Enid must have been very efficient.) There are also Stone Monuments in the Riverne sites, but they have no text.
Gwynham Ironheart went to the Northlands, but there are no Stone Monuments there. Why not? The Multinational Expedition in 854 didn't seem to find anything particularly dangerous up there, there was no Shadowlord, so there were no demons, and according to the official timeline Gigases didn't occupy Valdeaunia until 859. What fortunate accident lead him to believe (correctly) that the crags were artificial in nature, did he go to Fei'yin to confirm it?
I think that there is a very interesting story in all of this, a nice follow up to An Explorer's Footsteps. Maybe require us to get Clay tablets for Vunkerl Inlet, Grauberg, and Fort Karugo-Narugo, then go to the north to find out what he found in the north.
