Concerning this new transfer thing I was willing to pay the extra and put up the twenty bucks up front. My account everything went ok. My kids account getting it updated is like hitting a brick wall. My kid does not post on these forums so never linked an account to forums. None of the passwords work and customer service keeps giving me passwords that still don't work. This kid pre-ordered this game before it even came out in North America. Then he was first in line at Best Buy to pick it up when the store opened. It had always been ours and never gave a single other person access to it. So this is it if we can't access an account that we are the only owners of heck with it. If I can't transfer his I am canceling mine also and we will both move on. I don't understand this and I have had enough. Sorry I just had to get that off of my chest It makes no sense that customer service cant help us. I dont know what else to do. One more try with customer service this am and then i'm out two accounts to be cancelled due frustration and hitting my head against a will. I should not have to go thru this.

I had huge problems as well back in the days. I think it mainly had to do with trying to log on to the wrong US/EU site. Like I'd use the correct login, but at the wrong place.
Make sure you try both sites, in case you were trying the wrong one.

I sympathize completely, expect to be attacked by SE apologists.
See? This is the kind of suffering the new billing system is causing and will continue to cause as more customers find out that, for whatever their individual circumstances, they find themselves forced to stop playing due to SE's billing changes. There's NO reason for them to have to go through this.

I don't mean back in the day, Im trying to transfer this account currently. His is one of those accounts he does not log into very much but I have always paid and keep it up and going for when he wants to use it. I can't get it transferred to keep paying for it. I don't know what else im supposed to do. My kid is in college now and does not play that much. But to this day he occasionally logs on to play with me usually knock around fun on low level 40ish characters. I think the problem transferring has to do with it not being linked to a forum account but neither one of us can now get any of our passwords to work.
Up until yesterday when I tried to transfer his account was working fine. Now we are locked out of it. I don't know what I am supposed to do.

I feel bad for you, and I know that all of these unnecessary complications are causing a lot more of this than we will ever actually see on the forum. As for what you should do, I'd send a polite complaint directly to SE about their increasingly awkward handling of payments on FFXI and then just look for something else. SE is a broken and out-dated company, and it's probably only going to get worse here.

this isn't about the payment. The passwords are not working.
OP, did you recently activate the account in july or have they been active the whole time? The reason I asked this is because at first I had issues cuz of my password, then it said I had to wait till next mnth cuz I just reactivated my account this month.
If you do not have a sqaure enix account you need to set one up. And by the sounds of it this is the case. If not make sure you type the password slowly and that the caps isn't on. Sometimes I have issues typing in my PW cuz I type it out to fast and a button doesn't go through.

Also my family had a bad run in with paypal. Somehow my moms password no longer works. And we had several issue trying to get payments through using paypal.
This is about SE overcomplicating the process of giving them your money, and also you are such an extraordinary hypocrite.
...ok, you told him to check for caps lock and make sure he entered the password correctly. If you aren't a troll, I sincerely wish the best for you.

The account has been active the whole time and I have tried our passwords both online and to make a square enix account. When I tried to make the square enix account it kept telling me that my password was incorrect. I called customer service twice and they gave me new passwords that still dont work. I cant make a square enix account if I cant get access. I cant transfer and make payment arrangements and apparently customer service cant really help. So indirectly it is about payment. Its just to much frustration and I am gonna try customer service one more time before I cancel both accounts. well cancel mine I guess his will go dormant or something.

that does suck, I had a similar issue when i reactivated my account years ago. I wish I could suggest more to help you. I would suggest calling up your son and ask if he changed his password if you haven't done so. He might have. Or it can be possible while in college he sold the account. (this isn't uncommon)

Its about transferring what was a perfectly good account until I started the transfer progress yesterday and ran into out of the blue password issues. I went the crysta method on mine and was planning the same with his idk whats going on. I know it is the last straw. Changing payment methods should not be this complicated.

Hmm imma list all the steps i used to make a SE account i know this is a rather frustrating time for you so if I make mention of things you've already done i apologize beforehand.
1. go to playonline.com/ff11us/index.shtml
2. click on SE account management system in the upper right corner
3. click on register new account to the right
4 select your region
5. select your country
6.confirm region and country
7. enter Birthday
8. accept the terms of service agreement
9. enter email address and confirm email for temp registration. also take note of the steps in the upper right hand corner
10. follow the link in said email and complete the remaining steps
when navigating the labyrinthian confirmations and password security systems of square enix i find it best to have a checklist with me when at all possible so that was merely all i am trying to provide here. i hope things do work out for you OP.
EDIT: the reason why i think you are having trouble is because SE accounts have different passwords then a POL account which is kinda stupid because in the end both end up existing at the same time even when you link accounts which even further complicates things.
EDIT EDIT: also if what i typed in no way even remotely addresses your problems then sorry bout that ^^;

Nope my son is is here for the weekend and he didnt change anything. He never sold the account. We logged in and updated it before I started to transfer it. We don't sell accounts or anything like that. We are just normal players.

It is an issue of transferring the account though. If things had been left alone, none of this would need to be bothered with. My main point was that you can't dock Paypal in one thread because your mom forgot her password, then come here and say, "Well, you just forgot your password."
Telling him to make sure caps lock is on summarizes your relationship to this whole situation pretty well, actually. You don't seem to have any understanding about this issue (which is ok, you're young and you're not expected to yet), but for some reason you don't see that and you think it's everyone else who's confused.

yes I agree they could did a better job at it. You had no issues with your account, just your sons right? As i suggested a bit ago I would call your son and find out if he sold his account or changed his password. Trust me SE is the worst when getting your password.
long story short, I had quit ffxi a few times and the first time I had completely forgot my account info and my password. I tried everyone one I could and had to ask my boyfriend to call SE up for me since It was under his card. I ended up setting up a new account just till my old account was fixed.
Pardon me, Neonii. It's late and I've been up all night. Which passwords are you trying and where? Passwords to log into Square Enix's website? Into Play Online to log into the game?
Edit: Okay I think I understand now.
I don't think payment issues should correlate to passwords not working.

excuse me but honestly, I'm 26 years old and I have more then my fair share of SE issues. You are infact twisting this thread to fit your adgenda. The reason for the switch is because they are phasing out playonline. And making all account SE accounts. The payment is just part of it.
They said they are having password issues when doing the transfer, so I gave them logical advice since I in fact had the same issue before I found out I had to wait.
Please stop stiring the drama pot and twist things around. And stop making rude comments about my advice.
And honestly who ever is the troll who using tags to insult quit it. it beyond annoying and childish. I'm not doing anything wrong but trying to help a person out with an issue I am infact familur with.

Rosina is right SE is doing this to faze out pol and also make a single payment system for all the mmo's they plan too have. its all in one system and under one set of sakearatie instead of 7 or 8 different ones. they have dun things in tipickel fuster cluck SE stile and things are just a pain in the ass ATM.
Neonii, you would do well to simply ignore Rosina. They've spent the last couple days telling everyone, essentially, that they're stupid crybabies for not liking the changes to the billing system, and that ClickandBuy is only for Crysta purchases (it isn't, it's for CC payments too). I'm sorry that they're here in your thread.
Try to follow Alpheus's steps to make the account, and perhaps we can help you through the next portion, transferring the POL accounts and setting up your new method of payment (which, yes, is more complicated than it needs to be and requires setting up an additional account with a 3rd party).
Keep in mind that the transfer doesn't need to be completed till the end of next month, and judging by the enormous amount of backlash, there may be changes for the better before then. If all else fails, you can call SE support and get a live human on the line to help you:

Ok spoke with customer service guy said there is maint going on and I have to retry to transfer after the 1st of the month.
He also checked account and said everything with the account itself is in order. He issued me a new password, So at this point i'll take a wait and see approach.
Edit: If I understood what the guy was saying maint was the cause of the issues i'm having. Ok we will see. I guess since I already had my character linked to forums it did not hold up my transfer.

It's great they were able to make things work. Last month there was some kind of accounting debacle that's now causing some problems in the transfer process. You guys might want to wait it out.
edit: By wait it out I mean you might not want to jump into the transfer process immediately, but you should keep an eye on things. Waiting till the last minute, of course, would be a terrible idea.

Okay, you're starting to sound genuinely apologetic at this point, so I'll try to extend the olive branch and help you out here.
The problem is that you just deleted your error and acted like you didn't make it, rather than just correcting your thread and saying that you had provided false info. And after doing so, you continue to make erroneous statements without anything to back them up.
Selzak's analogy actually makes a good point. If you don't fully understand something then just don't talk about it. The reason you're being hammered with seething responses is that you continue to make statements that are outright wrong in your ardent and unwarranted defense of SE's practices.
No one would see any reason to bite back at you if that weren't the case.

LOL i know for a fact you didn't read the thread now.
I wrote "sorry for the mis info i did my ffxiv account on my ps3 and the click and buy logo didn't load up."
which is the truth the ps3 doesn't load sites properly all the time due to IE6.
honestly truth be told this is not SE first dealing with this type of attitude. ffxiv player base did exactly what you guys are doing now.
I feel for the reps having to clean this up. more so Bey.
Straight up though, there is honestly no rhyme, reason, excuse. to act childish over a change. There is no need to go around threads calling me out on stuff you do not know yourself. There is no need to insult me over your angry.
I am not enjoying having to go through this for a second time.

I think some type of detailed official statement which includes the issues which may come out would go a long way towards management of customer frustration. Thank you everyone for attempting to help me. We are not out of the woods yet but I am a reasonable person and i'll wait and see what develops after the 1st. Lets just all take a deep breath and calm down a little (me also). Fighting each other is not productive.
When you admitted to "mis info" you neglected to say what was wrong with your post, just like a politician saying "mistakes were made," it's a non-admission. The original content of your thread was "everyone stop raging over nothing, you're all dumb and need to do you research, ClickandBuy is only for Crysta, you can still pay with CC." In place of all that junk was a tirade against people arguing against your many erroneous statements.
Just stay out of the discussion. You're not qualified to discuss the things you keep talking about, so just bow out. Throw in the towel.
I'm honestly telling you this to help you. If you're truly not a troll, then you wouldn't want all the spotlight and negative attention. You will continue to be hammered again and again, by people who won't pull their punches like I am now, and they won't always be as cheeky and witty as Selzak.
edit: And I apologize to Neonii for responding to Rosina here; this sort of thing is happening all over because of the statements of certain people who don't understand the frustration most people are having with the billing changes, or who for some reason take it upon themselves to defend SE for what's truly indefensible.

OK, I'm going to try to go through this step by step.
My kid does not post on these forums so never linked an account to forums.
This is a red herring. Being able to post on this forum has no bearing on being able to play Final Fantasy XI.
None of the passwords work and customer service keeps giving me passwords that still don't work.
The problem with getting into FFXI is there are about half a dozen different "passwords" here and there that all need to be in the right place. In order to really get through this, you have to be very specific about terminology and describing what's going where.
Now, I'm going to go through the contents of the "Change Settings" window in the PlayOnline Viewer. To get there, start up the PlayOnline Viewer, and then keep hitting the Esc key until you're at the scree that lists along the left-hand side a long list of options, like "Member List," "Information," "Guest Login" and so forth.
From there, on the right, click your kid's name.
On the next screen, on the left, click "Settings."
You are now presented the "Change Settings" window, with the following options:
Member Name: This is not important. This is can be anything and it doesn't matter. This only affects how the account is listed in that first PlayOnline screen. Do not worry about what you type in here.
PlayOnline ID: This is important. This is what all players were given when they first started playing the game. This is a string of four capital letters, followed by four numbers. This is not your Square-Enix ID.
Set Password: This setting is for having the PlayOnline Viewer save yoru PlayOnline Password so that you don't have to enter it every time. You will probably want to set this as "Save." If your kid uses a Square Enix ID (covered below), this must be set to "Save."
PlayOnline Password: This is important. It is a password that is necessary for getting into Final Fantasy XI. This particular password does not allow any special characters (such as ='s, *'s, #'s, so forth), only letters and numbers. Do not confuse the PlayOnline Password with the Square-Enix Password, they are two entirely separate things.
Member Password: In the name of all that is holy, leave this blank! This entry here exists for no real reason other than to confuse people.
Confirm Password: Should be blank and grayed out, becuase you will not being a Member Password because it is confusing and evil!
Square Enix ID: This only means something if your kid actualy already has a Square-Enix Account. The Square Enix ID is different from the PlayOnline ID. If your kid has one of those number-generating keychains, and has a Mog Satchel in-game, he probably already has one. If he does not, there is a chance he does not have one and this will be left blank for the time being. The Square Enix ID is something that you make up yourself at the time of creating the account (if he made one), it could be anything.
One-Time Password: If your kid has one of the aforementioned number-generating keychain, set this to "Use."
After saving all that, the log-in process should work. If your kid actually does use a Square Enix ID and the keychain, he will always be prompted to enter his Square Enix Password (not the PlayOnline Password, which is saved up above) and the number generated by his keychain.
Worry about being able to get into the game for now. Once you are in that position, make sure you take note of which password is which (and which ID is which). Again, you need to be very careful about terminology.
Then we can worry about what to do from there.

@OP I hope you his account up and running. Nevertheless, here's a fine example of why the Chrysta system doesn't work. You've paid in advance, and circumstances change, and unless things go differently, you won't be playing. And it's wasted money. . .
And unless things change, there are going to be simliar stories like this. There will be replies in this thread announcing their retirement, and new threads about people quitting.

This may be the root of your Problem Neonii. Seem to recall this was tripping up a LOT of people originally. At some point in registering/linking the SE account, you have to put in the POL password and everyone was putting a password for the SE account. Have to pay close attention to what you are putting where. Wish I could remember the specific details, but I set up my account a loooong time ago.

Actually I did all those steps up until the step where you had to enter Id and password and the only password associated with this account didn't work. There was a second box you were to click if you didn't have the square e id number. But customer service said the problem was caused by maintenance. We will see what happens after the first stay tuned.

If there is one and only one password associated with it then it must be the PlayOnline Password, and you must not have a Square-Enix ID tied to it.
So... leave the Square-Enix ID blank.
(But yeah, wait for after the maintenance and see what happens before doing anything else. Usually best to do one thing at a time when trying to sort out these puzzles.)

I had the same problem.... The problem was that(for me at least) after the update and linking/transfer of the accounts, they added another Tab under the Play Online "Members Name - PoL ID - PoL Password' It says "Square-Enix Member ID" after you enter the newly created one it will ask for the password when you try to connect.
I didnt see it before because i just never in the years i played ever looked twice at that section since i dont have a Keychain Password generator thing, Its also easy to overlook its at the bottom So in adition to creating the Square ID and PW you also have to go into PoL and type it in to go along with your existing PoL ID/PW.
I missed it because it was more logical that something they are reffering to as "Tranfer/Linking" be actually linked and not just "Added" to it which is a more exact term in my opinion.....
Dont make the same mistake as me and type it in the "PoL Merber Name" and PoL PW though... that was my mistake, glad it was a simple fix.

-edit- Removed the hostility-
If you really are getting passwords that don't work, you're entering the wrong password or entering it in the wrong place, or have some other incorrect setting., as several other people have said. Make sure you're putting the right password in the right place.
Also: If your account does not have a security token, make sure One Time Password is set to "Do not use" ! If it does, you MUST have it set to "Use" or you will get errors.

when I transfered I had no problem with it, but my friend had a heck of a time and explained to me what she was doing, she was entering the SE password in the POL password field....and she was trying to use her POL handle not the POL ID...it seems lots of people are doing this

I don't like your attitude. Does the man paying for your account know you signed up with Click&Buy?
