Ok seriously... Either:
A) Make the Condescending NPCs Disappear on their "Holiday", who hangs out at the shop on their day off???
B) Get Rid of the Holiday...

Please.

Yes please and on top of "this shop is closed on Lightningsday" (example), you have to wait until 8 for it to open again. :)

Haha, yeah. Would be nice if the NPCs would disappear. I can understand them having a holiday, but it seems to always be the one day you're running there to get a single item that isn't available on the auction house and would take hours to farm.

We checked with the development team about the holiday NPCs. Since there would be no real way to get information from holiday NPCs if they simply removed them, they are looking to making the holiday NPC’s dialogue a bit easier to understand.

So they're not just going to get rid of guild holidays?

I'd settle for the NPC telling us that it's a guild holiday, you know, so I'm not showing up at like 2:00, checking the NPC because I kept forgetting that it will not tell me it's a guild holiday, AFKing until open time only to find out it's a guild holiday. That really gets on my nerves.

I've just never been good about keeping up with holidays so when I actually remember I'll use my ffxi helper add on for firefox to figure it out. I remember it's watersday for Smithing though(I think), only because of about a few dozen times of hitting it up on Watersday back in the day until I finally learned my lesson.

No, seriously. I don't think anyone actually likes this "flavor" being in the game. It doesn't help anyone. If there were some perk to the "holiday" like better crafting rates on the holiday for that guild and they are all there because they want the enhancement themselves without being bothered by adventurers, then sure, that would be cool, and would make sense.

That not being the case, it just makes the npc's look like the biggest losers ever.

Something tells me you think I am talking about actual "Holiday NPCs" like the ones that explain Holiday events... I'm not.

I'm talking about Guild NPCs like the Blacksmithing Guild that stand there on Watersday and try to convince me that they're having the day off, when they're RIGHT THERE.

But like Bigboy said above me. IF there was some bonus (or penalty) to crafting on the guild's holiday it would make the game more interesting.

"I'm sorry adventurer, we're cleaning up the shop today and not selling materials until tomorrow. It's too dangerous to have people crafting in here today considering the unpredictable effects <DAY> has on <CRAFT>."

Where say in the case of Blacksmithing, Watersday would increase HQ's by 5% but also increase Synthesis failure 5% and Material Loss by say 25%.

Just do away with guild holidays period. A little slave labor won't hurt pixels.

IIRC, this weekly holiday comes from Japanese culture, shops have or used to have one day of the week set aside as a holiday. That's why it's like that, though not ALL shops have a holiday. If it were my choice I'd say just get rid of the holidays, but that opinion is out of pure annoyance.

My question is, why do the Fishing guilds on the BOATS have Holidays?
They're on the boat, they're at their shop on the boat, but they went through this trouble to tell people they can't sell anything on their holiday?

"Guild shop" type NPCs always annoy me.
1> Holidays are frustrating, always.
2> Even fully stocked, there's not even enough of an item for one player, let alone multiple. Which leads to 3...
3> One player buying out all of an item due to reason 2, causes that item to cost a fortune and have very little in stock the next day. Then hours later you can have one person buy out the guild again~

Lock the door on those days and put a message saying they're closed when you click the door? Guess people could just be in there beforehand though. In which case, just code it so they get kicked out when the shop closes (at night) and lock it then.

It's quite silly that the NPCs are there when they're supposed to be closed, for whatever reason. It's not like there aren't other NPCs that disappear under certain circumstances, such as Besieged. And yes, this includes Merchants, like the one that sells Corsair Dice in Al Zabhi.

Personally, I would like to see the guild shops open 24/8 like every other shop in the game. Guilds could still restock at a certain time of day, and they could even not restock on their current holidays if you're worried about this small balance adjustment. Example: Woodworking shop is always open, and restocks its supplies at 6:00 every day except Firesday. But guild shops being closed at any time serves no purpose other than to be inconvenient.

I agree. I don't think NPC guild shops should ever have holidays. It's just an inconvenience for the player and makes the game more annoying to play.

Obviously REAL people running a shop need to have days off, but NPCs in a video game don't. They should always be open, 24/7.

You guys are SO selfish.. These NPCs have kids, they have families and they need their days off to stand at work all day and neglect those kids and families. You people are horrible! ; ;

Are you saying non-guild merchant NPCs don't have families?
The Mithran children in Ru'Lude have their shops open 24/8, SE doesn't feel bad for them!
