This isn't so much of a complaint or asking it to be changed but I always did wonder why they weren't able to make bows and guns visible like on the back when they aren't drawn during battle.

Some bows and guns like very nice, mostly the relic/mythics/emps and would be nice to be able to seem them better.

Kinda sucks doing all that work for one of them and not being able to see them/show them off very well.

But, I assume it wasn't able to be done to to weapons like staffs/scythes/Great Axes/etc conflicting with it.

I always wanted this, but I'm afraid it's too late to ask!

Where are you going to put it on the body? We got 2 hand weapons in the back, 1 hand weapons on the sides.

This isn't Vietnam. I seriously doubt that they will be putting guns strapped on chests here.

You know back in the good ole days one could have a sword and bow on their backs. Hell watch LoTR sometime. It's not like it would ultimately cause a huge problem, but I'm pretty sure SE isn't gonna do this for coding problems/ps2 limitations/ff vs XIII (aka SE goes to bermuda)/just not caring enough/insert any reason you want here.

I agree with you Kurd. But we live in a modern society though, and therefor have to use our imagination in what people did back in the middle ages. Most people who actually studied the timeframe in question would know that this game comes nowhere near realistic of middle age timeframe. However, most people who play this game have not studied that timeframe at all, so there we are.

Look at Firion in Dissidia. That would be how to do it, I suppose.

There are at least two characters with bows on their backs in game currently, even though it's cutscene only. Semih Lafihna in the present day Windurst missions, and Perih Vashai in Windurst (S) quests. So it's not like it hasn't been done before, it's just not done for players. I think that a Mithra in one of the early Windurst (S) quests (The one who kinda had an attitude towards Romaa, had just arrived during the "When One Man is Not Enough"/"A Feast for Gnats" bit, leader of the Cheetah Volunteers. Regardless, I can't remember her name.) had a visible gun on her back.

I started playing RNG these last few days and was thinking that it'd be great to have ranged weapons visible when holstered. Can't see it happening though cos there ain't much room left. Maybe if it sat 90 degrees off a 2h weapon with the stock at the other shoulder?

we could also set it up where all of our weapons just kinda hovered in a circular pattern around us, that would be kinda cool :) or maybe the guns could be attached to our leg?

We spoke to the development team about displaying bows and guns when they are equipped. They looked into the possibility of doing this, but since there are a lot of tasks both system wise as well as animation wise, unfortunately they came to the conclusion that it would be too difficult.

Oh wow, I honestly really wasn't expecting a response to this. lol Good to know at least. Figured it would be pretty hard to do.

What about an emote of some sort, would that at least be possible? Like a /hurray that works for ranged?

I'd say Bows could be done like the Mithra NPC (Forgot her name), Guns could be down the right side of the back or the right leg, but Crossbows.. They'd have to redo crossbows to fold like in FFXII. It'd be cool, but meh. In the Ranged dept. I'm more curious as to why NIN doesn't get Throwing WSs.

Been stated several times. Due to the way the game is coded, it wouldnt be able to tell the difference between a boomerang, shurikan, bow, xbow etc. Meaning if they added it, even anyone that has a bow, gun, etc would be able to use the throwing WS as well.

I don't completely understand how the coding works that way, but I'll take that as an answer. lol

This can't be toooo difficult.
I'm sure this is almost irrelevant, but monsters tend to carry around their bows/guns. :<
I would think this would work, if bows/guns only showed if you were main job RNG or COR.
Maybe have a command to swap what is displayed, /shrug.

I doubt that's the reason for throwing WSs.
If the game couldn't tell the difference, then we'd be able to use Archery skills with Xbow, Marksmanship with Bow, and both with Throwing.
I could be wrong, but the way things work seem to point out that the game does know what type of weapon we have, whether it can be thrown, whether it consumes ammo, what ammo it's allowed to be paired with, etc.

I recall an interview with SE brought up the point that throwing weapons don't have a common ground for making WSs. Making a WS that works with Boomerangs, Explosives, Chakram, Darts, Shuriken, etc while still making sense, is quite difficult.
Leaving the other option to be to make Throwing WSs for each category...which is a lot of work/resources, and would probably hit PS2 limitations anyway.

It would probably be difficult in the way where if someone were to wear a two handed weapon at the same time as a bow, then it would look rather strange having one sit on top of the other, and they would have to deal with that problem. I guess they could have it so you can toggle which one is displayed, or it would only be displayed if the user is using a single handed weapon...but honestly I would rather them develop new content then try to deal with the little itty bitty details and tweaking they would need to get this right... just for looks D:

plus PS2 limitations!

You still blink when you change ranged equipment, I assume it wouldn't be that hard but what do i know....

Well if WARs wanted both they'd probably get it. lol

It's not that hard to do really, they would be no different than a staff or whatever. Don't even need a custom aniomation, they could just appear on the back when idle...they appear from nowhere when you shoot anyway.

They won't do it cause they are on a very tight budget is the real reason.

How is making those weapons visible full time a matter of money? lol
It just requires a bit of time that they don't wanna bother with.

If the programs that show .dat files are to be believed, ranged weapons are kept below ground-level. Just move them up. If certain NPCs can have them displayed, it shouldn't be too hard to show for us.

If those are to be believed, then greatsword, swords, and all other weapons are also kept between one's ankles.

I still think Annihilator is the worst looking relic. They even switched it with coffin maker in the official picture of all the relics lying together (the pic excluding aegis).

if they just added a simple bone(weight) to the backs of characters, in opposite direction of say.. a staff, and tweak an animation, this would be a 10 minute addition by most modelers standards. at least for archery. add a separate weight for marksmanship, and leave throwing as is. total change of 3~6 animations per race.
