I would WORK FOR FREE! play ffxi 24/7!
And also if they feed me food!
And let me stay in there office! and sleep on the office chair it be my dream!!!!
As long as the AC is back on, I'm down for this.
I don't know about playing 24/7, gotta work on development some time. But my biggest 3 projects:
1. Ps3 Client
2. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/11395-Jeuno-Quest-Bulliten-Board
3. Bring back auto trans. I know JP don't use it, but it helps my spelling.
I would dispose of PS2 support.
Then work on improving the game in all those things that are limited from PS2 limitations.

I would Fire the STF and the person who made the auto ban tool! Then I would unban everyone even the people that did bad things and give everyone a 2nd chance since SE cant tell the difference between RMT and legit players...
(alt account banned and blamed for RMT) That's a huge insult being blamed for something like that then not being able to do anything about it since customer support is worthless.
After that mess was cleared up I would fix customer service so they aren't completely worthless.
Now that all the wrongfully banned people are back SE would have a better income and I would start on a new expansion and change back all the dungeon zones they messed up.
http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/rule/specialtask.html look at all the money that was lost from a faulty autoban program! Sure we all know bannings need to be done but 10,000-30,000+ people in a month? That alone should of been a red flag on thier end that it was wrong. If I was SE I would be furious about that many people in 1 month being banned.
10,000 people with 1 character no mules is $129,500 for 1 month or $1,554,000 a year.

Ya what everyone has said so far I'd do. Seriously, had some friends unfairly banned by SE, have my own beefs with the customer service (or lack there of), and of course PS3 take over.
I would design fabulouth armor.

I'd fix Summoner in like a week. Rest of the time I'm not sure what I'd be doing. Probably just answer questions on the forums to make people happy.
Nothing special, just the things I think someone should already be doing.

I would ban people like OP for being moronic.
Let me clarify a little. I am a game graphics programmer. I spent 5 years at a very intense college learning my trade. It is very clear that the vast majority of you have no idea what goes into making video games. You want to play games all day? Congratulations, you are qualified to be a tester and make $10 an hour. I am not kidding.
Developers rarely get to play their games for fun. Even then, by the time we are done with crunch, we don't even want to look at them. Stop living in the clouds.

SE, on the other hand, has been making games for a very great deal longer. And it doesn't take a either a B.S. or Master's in Computer Science to see that FFXI gets a whole lot right, and there are things that can be improved, and they leave a forum open to that.

rmt bans are iffy. And rmt is more then just buying gil. It is buying and selling your accounts as well. You can also get ban from knowing a person who bought gil and or bought/sold account. Or getting gil from a player who bought gil. It isn't fair but Least SE took things seriously.

1) Get rid of Tarutarus completely
2) I'd make Insurgency a Crit WS.
3) Give DRG an Attack boosting JA
4) Separate Waltz timers
5) Separate Magic Blood Pacts and Physical Blood Pacts from BP: Rage
6) Separate Buffing Blood Pacts and Enfeebling Blood Pacts from BP: Ward
7) Make a whole new category for Healing Blood Pacts.
8) Show Accuracy, Evasion, Critical Hit Rate, Magic Attack and Magic Defense in the menu.
9) Remove PS2 Support and finally
10) Push for more areas, and/or, revamping old ones completely. Can we just agree to get rid of hall of the gods?

Oh, you're going to have fun. I hope you like talking about melee summoner and fixes for elemental summons.
And what I would do if I was god of SE and could add batcrap random things
a) add new classes, most of them gimmicky and broken so I could laugh at people on the forums trying to fix them (geomancer, Time mage, astromancer, templar, gladiator)
b) give my char an aymur
c) create a new clown bst tribe that was true sight and hearing, that aggroed to blood, sound and sight. This bst tribe would not attack PUP

1: Add the tarutaru backflip in Asuran Fists to Victory Smite too.
2: Give WAR and MNK a way to do more damage.
3: Give BLM a way to do more damage without any enmity gain.
4: Give RDM and SCH Cura natively.
5: Allow BRD to control monsters charmed with Maiden's Virelai. Allow the BRD to cast songs on the charmed monster. Add a song that increases the power of your pet. Allow BRD to charm a greater array of monsters because they're more alluring.
6: Allow adventuring fellows to equip automaton attachments. Allow players to control their actions with /petcommand. In order to balance this, it will no longer be possible to summon an automaton, monster or avatar while an adventuring fellow is present. It will also no longer be possible to summon an adventuring fellow while a called monster, automaton or avatar is present.
7: In order to establish MNK's mastery of it's own body, introduce hand wraps. These can be equipped while using a H2H weapon in the "Sub" slot. These will increase the activation rate and damage reduction of "guard" on par with various shield sizes, depending on the wrap.
Aegis Wrap
(Wrap) All Races
DEF:40
Augments "Tactical Guard"
Magical damage taken -40%
Lv. 90 MNK
... would be an example.
8: Make certain job combinations that defy logic impossible. For instance, WHM/DRG. White Mage Can't Jump.
9: In order to bring order and nourishment to the galkan hordes, give all galka players the ability to butcher any NurseryNazuna on sight. This will provide meat for sausages. In order to promote realism, once a BST has his NurseryNazuna butchered, he will not be able to summon another one until he completes what I outline in item #10.
10: Add a quest for BSTs to raise pets from birth to adulthood. This must be completed before a BST is able to summon that particular beast. If a BSTs pet is defeated in battle, he must raise a new one from birth again. This will promote responsibility among beastmasters.
11: New event for BSTs. Similar to the VNM system, invisible monsters will roam each zone throughout Vana'diel. These monsters, however, may strike at a BST at any given time. These are the revenge seeking zombies of pets left for dead. The roam the countryside looking for BSTs to prey upon. Although these monsters may be tough, there are rewards for granting them. Laying a former pet to rest will grant a beastmaster the status effect "Peace of Mind" - which will grant +5 MND and a Clear Mind job trait for 30 minutes (wears off upon zoning).
12: In order to compensate for a summoner's low HP pool, and therefore, greater risk of dying, if a summoner calls an avatar while at low HP (yellow, or below 75%), the Avatar will immediately use it's two hour ability. This will consume all of the summoners MP and Astral Flow, but it will grant a percentage of damage dealt to the summoner's HP pool. Note: There is an issue where if a summoner summons an avatar with HP below 75% while Astral Flow is inactive, causing the avatar to repeatedly try and fail to use it's special ability. We are aware of this issue, but there is no current time frame to fix it.
13: Due to popular demand and QQing, we have made the following adjustments to the thief job:
- The following Job Traits will be added to THF: Dual Wield IV, Counter, Subtle Blow.
- The following Job Abilities will be added to THF: Counterstance, Impetus, Berserk, Barrage, Meditate.
- The following spells will be added to THF: Utsusemi: Ichi (Lv. 10), Utsusemi: Ni (Lv. 30), Utsusemi: San (Lv. 50), Utsusemi: Shi (Lv. 70) and Utsusemi: Go (Lv.90)
- Through the use of "Despoil", THFs will now be able to steal a free month of FFXI from GMs... if they can spot one.
- It is now possible for THFs to use Aura Steal on players inside Abyssea to steal their atma effects. There is a known issue where these effects will not wear off unless changing jobs, even if the THF leaves Abyssea. There is currently no timeframe to fix this.
- The recast of Perfect Dodge has been lowered to 5 minutes upon reaching level 90.
- Upon reaching level 90, the new "Two-Hour" ability will be called "Grand Heist". This ability allows THF to raid the treasury of any major nation to obtain vast riches and luxurious items and powerful equipment exclusive to this job ability. If the THF is "caught" during the heist, he will be transported to Mordion Gaol where he must pay a GM 1000 gil to be released. If the player lacks gil, he will be released but unable to obtain gil for 30 minutes (Vana'diel time). If the job abilities "Hide" and "Flee" are active during "Grand Heist" - the THF will never be caught. Here is just a small sample of the items that can be obtained via "Grand Heist":
Lightbringer
(Sword) All Races
DMG: 74 Delay: 220
HP+100 MP+100 STR+20 VIT+20
Additional Effect: "Flash II"
Additional Effect: "Holy III"
Additional Effect: "Skillchain: Light"
Lv. 90 PLD
Rog's Gaiters
(Feet) All Races
Flee duration +120
Spell interruption while moving -100%
Latent Effect: Movement Speed +100%
Lv.1 BLM/RDM/THF

@Tarage: I have a friend who was a video game tester, and your right its not what we would think it is and most people would go insane from doing that job. Personally I would much rather be a video game tester than work at fast food places, sure its incredibly redundant work, but for more money than fast food and less annoying customers, i'd personally prefer that. Also if you have a problem with people being stupid or wrong on the internet, well this is a bad time for you to be alive, because most people are stupid and wrong and they like to reside on the internet. However I think its good to let people know the truth about things, like video games not being super easy to make and that the average game developer doesn't want anything to do with a game he has made, he (and for that manner other companies including SE) has a whole group of people dedicated to finding out what people thought about his game, and thus he can use that knowledge to make the next game better, or worst depending on what he tries and how it turns out (Sometimes good ideas are only good in theory). Good luck trying to fix smn, it has been broken since it was released and tho it has gotten some good ideas, it has never been what it promised to be.

most things you have suggested are things that are time consuming.. which makes this game good. Being able to say 'Yes, I did it'. And as for the EXP changes, you would be saying the same thing to birds if Soulflayers wer fought more on a mass-scale EXP PT type mob, there are many exp mobs out there, that people just dont go to because they arnt good at targeting and finding its weakpoints. lol.. and 'Increased SMN skill up'.. seeing as you're SMN90.. skilling up said skill shouldnt be a problem at all, just abyssea PT with MM atma and use carby and Poison Nails, it does OK dmg, and you will NEVER run out of MP, whilst still being able to heal and buff etc... just saying..

What the hell are you talking about? I didn't say anything about SE, I was complaining about Lordscyon who seems to think that this is a chat room and he should just spout whatever moronic things are on his mind.
I was simply correcting the flawed view that 'working for video games is fun and easy!' It isn't. Next time why don't you learn to read huh?
Assuming he's not a troll to begin with (and you're taking him very seriously), his question is entirely hypothetical anyway. I don't think he's getting into the hours and pay rates, 401k and health care plans; he isn't really asking about being a real developer. I'm taking this as more of a "what would you do with the game if you could" kind of question, instead of too literally. I think the OP was merely expressing taking joy in actually playing the game, and a commitment to the game itself, so why rain on his parade?
Asking what others would do as developers is a perfectly valid question, and really, is an implicit part of the entire forum. In part, I was using your reply as a platform to vent some design decisions that as a long timer Final Fantasy series player I find frustrating. Mostly, I was just pointing out that there are bigger than you out there, and even they aren't perfect, so experience does not make you "better" than he is, which you seem to need to be. Desperately, I'd add.
So far, you've used the terms,"moronic," "learn to read," and "pathetic," and have condescended to the the OP via how much money he'd make, condescended to myself, and "the vast majority of you," so I was just sticking up for a little guy from a condescending, pretentious, know-it-all bully.
And upon reading your 'adjustments', I just have to give you applause. You don't know a single thing about game design do you? All of your proposed adjustments either fit into 'This is so horrible it would break the game' or 'I hate Abyssea QQ'. God, this is pathetic.
And as for understanding game design, I believe that the greater the challenge, the greater the sense of victory, and with high risk comes a sigh of relief when you don't lose. This game is neither challenging atm, nor does losing mean much anymore. If you think otherwise, the only person that doesn't understand game design is the guy who, ironically, went to college for it, and uses as a platform to look down on others.
Good day.

[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XI FORUM Guidelines (http://support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=20&la=1).]
It's not even a matter of liking one more than the other. This is an attempt to even out Abyssea allied experience points with traditional 6 or fewer man parties, as the doubling of experience points per mob wasn't enough to accomplish that. I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting Conquest Points or Imperial Standing while making experience points per hour that are as good as anywhere else. Even hard core Abyssea players may not want to use stones and or time on Abyssea. I see no reason why Abyssea and traditional parties cannot co-exist as equals.
[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XI FORUM Guidelines (http://support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=20&la=1).]
You're missing the point. One of the flaws of the traditional experience points system is that experience points are rewarded based upon the level of the mob, not the level of difficulty of the mob; a Colibri and a Soulflayer should not give the same amount of experience points. Sure, some mobs get a bonus, but I'd like to see more of that. A party can go after easier mobs for a smoother, less stressful party, but they'd get experience points that are appropriate, but still good enough. If a party is brave enough and skilled enough to party on Soulflayers, they should get a ton of experience points.
[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XI FORUM Guidelines (http://support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=20&la=1).]
Low drop rates do not make monsters easier or harder, just repetitive. The problem with staggers is that it's boring. It's a lot of standing around and waiting for a kill order if you're not doing the staggering yourself. Standing around is not engaging game play. And as far as jobs go, it's said there's only about 5 useful ones right now, but that's quite another discussion.
[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XI FORUM Guidelines (http://support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=20&la=1).]
I don't see how crystals cluttering up one's inventory has anything to do with supply and demand. By all means, someone please explain it. I regret that I don't think you would be able to so in a civil manner, Tarage, so I'd hear it elsewhere.
[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XI FORUM Guidelines (http://support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=20&la=1).]
Yes, they will actually. You omitted that healing magic, which White Mage has a high skill in, would play a much larger role. White Mage would caste Cure V with much greater potency, and therefore mana-efficiency, similar to a Black Mage nuking harder than a Red Mage with the same spell (yes, I know that's more about MAB and INT, resistances not withstanding).
[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XI FORUM Guidelines (http://support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=20&la=1).]
Rousing Jig would be the Raise-Jig that the Dancer community is clammering for. A healing job that can't raise? And as for TP, I see it as nothing more than the equivalent of Summoner getting Auto-Refresh. With the JA SE mentioned, every job but dancer would get regain, so not give it to Dancer natively? At 1-2 TP per tic, which is already possible through other means anyway, I don't see how this breaks the game. At 1-2 TP per tic, quite some time is going to pass before they can do much.
[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XI FORUM Guidelines (http://support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=20&la=1).]
Yes, it was. It doesn't take a degree in C.S. to see that standing around waiting for 10 minutes for an airship isn't engaging gameplay. As a fishermen, I'd rather wait 5 minutes than 10 for my boat.
[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XI FORUM Guidelines (http://support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=20&la=1).]
You're misinterpreting the purpose. It's an Astral Flow countermeasure. No more gathering up every last mob in the zone. The range can be just enough so that kiters can do their job.

Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean that they don't have their own education in gaming and or programming. And what you are missing, sir, is a the ability to disagree without being disagreeable. It makes forums a more productive and pleasant place. You cannot say, "Lordscyon who seems to think that this is a chat room and he should just spout whatever moronic things are on his mind," and then turn around and say things like,"Gonna go cry to mommy?" "asspained," and "WAH" multiple times. One cannot remark upon someone's play skill when you haven't played with them, much less their age and education level when you've never met them. These remarks reflect much less on me, and much more on you. I sincerely hope, for your own sake, that you acquire it.

And now I see no point in even trying to explain all the things that are wrong with what you just said. It's pretty clear that you have no concept of balance, no concept of what makes a game fun, and no concept of a rational argument. My favorite is the "Astral Flow Countermeasure". That sums up your entire list. Complaints. "They aren't playing the way I want them to play, so they should be forced to."
Keep trying to sound sophisticated though. It's making for great sig material.

If I worked for SE I would more than likely get fired for putting some of them in their place for the total B.S. they have been pulling these last couple years.

Friendly advice, stop arguing with Panthera. I know you weren't there for the last time someone let him go on about Abyssea, but it was seriously something like 50 pages of absolute bullcrap. I'm pretty sure he still has me on ignore from that, like everyone else he decided he didn't want to listen to.
Edit: I remember what it was. He adamantly believed that playing the game in absolutely any way but the way he felt it should be played was straight up cheating. Yeah.

I did say it was a weakness. Still, I feel that children should be educated, not patted on the head and told their ideas are good when they really aren't.
I didnt say dont teach them, getting mad doing so over childish dreams is just..

I would rather correct them so that they don't have delusions of what the world truly is. That would be harming their future if they believed that they can achieve something that doesn't exist.
And this forum isn't meant for kids. The game has a high enough rating that if you are playing, you shouldn't be considered a child anymore.

You're right, it's not.

Does this sound mature to anyone? I thought the bit about breathing water was particularly dignified.
Ridicule is not the same refutation. Paraphrasing does not prove your point. It takes a lot more than a patronizing tone to make you right. I admire your passion--I do--but you don't provide enough reason to persuade. You throw out conclusions without premises and supporting evidence, granting little weight to your pronoucements. Anyone can carry on in this way; it doesn't take a lick of talent or skill. And worse yet, you pick an easy target. Again, assuming he isn't trolling, there's misspellings, grammar issues... he may simply not be, how shall I say, academically inclined? It might be said of me that I'm doing much the same thing, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.
Kay, nobody cares you guys. I'd say take it to private messages but those don't exist here so...
If I worked for SE I'd implement a private messaging system for the official forums.
I would also hide from the official forums because it looks like people are out for blood with this payment plan business.

Not really, and he really should have read the Forum Guidelines. ^^
