Dear SE,

Can we please get a dislike button to go with our like button? I have read so many interesting posts on this forum and find that it fills me with hope, that we as gamers can now voice our concerns to you, as well as share information with each other. It is amazing how many creative and well thought out ideas are being presented. Absolutely fabulous that people take the time to post in-depth research about why certain things (i.e. haste, accuracy, etc.) are important to macro in with gear. I enjoy reading these posts and hitting the like button every time I see a really unique, constructive idea. What I don't like is the number of people I see who, (apparently rather than add constructive criticism or more ideas) just focus on making the OPs thread all about them and stray the conversation off the original topic. I, personally, do not respond to these types of posters. Anyway my idea is this:

The like button can be used to let the moderators know that a particular post within a thread is getting a lot of hits. This means that post needs some attention because it:
A) has good information for other users
B) has a creative idea from a member of the player base that a lot of other players might like to see implemented.

If there were a dislike button it would also be able to give a heads up to the moderators of the forums that someone is being particularly undesirable in their responses to a given post. Rather than argue with any poster and clog up good threads with more garbage, we could simply hit *dislike* and continue holding discussions about the more relevant topic of the original post. It provides us all with a benefit including the attention wanter. They get to see a mass amount of dislikes so they know they were noticed. The original poster gets a clean thread so their message doesn't get lost. The rest of us get to acknowledge we didn't like that one person, while still being able to stay on topic.

Thanks SE for making this forum. It is really awesome knowing you are trying to listen to your player base. Many of us understand that while our ideas may be good they can not all be implemented. *simple fact* If you have a perfection, there is no reason to try to improve.

What if it's a controversial post, ie: an even ammount of elitists dislike the post as there are non-elitists that like it?

If you had read the recent interviews you'd appreciate why this is a terrible idea. The like button is a remedy for the fact that 90% of the posts on these forums are perpetually negative and Dev-bashing. The "Like" button is the only way Devs know whether or not something is good, despite the overly vocal negativity since apparently most people who actually like something can't be bothered to say and when they do, often get flamed out of the forums by the hyper vocal negatives.

More griefing, no thanks.

Griefing and negativity? I was simply stating that there is no reason to allow people to take over good threads with their all about me kicks. As for controversial posts well thats completely different, but most of what I've seen that I am referring to is *You're an idiot for posting that!* *You're a bad player cause you don't believe it* and then the good one *WAHHHH he called me a bad player and I'm not.* There is nothing wrong with controversial posts as long as both sides are contributing contructively. It is when a really good thread gets ruined with all the other stuff, because rather than ignore the people, they get responded to. Hence giving them attention and distracting from the original topic. Honestly I'd like to say a few things to these people myself, but I try my best *not always great at it and very often fail* to be a nice person. I would just like to be able to read a thread and enjoy it for the good points in it, without the excess. I am very sorry, though if it was a bad idea. I was unaware that it was going to cause such negative results. Thank you kindly for the responses, however, as I do alway appreciate feedback.

Again really sorry...I am still kind of new to the whole forum thing, I typically just stay in game or hang out with my family.

I would like to say I've seen your posts a few times. I really like your signature. Anyway your point is still a very good one. I did not consider controversial posts as I haven't seen that many of them yet that had any substance. It isn't always about elite vs non-elite though...oh wait yeah most of the time it is, but it really shouldnt be. We should all be working together to make the game more fun for everyone. Guess I'm just an idealist, but meh...Anyway thanks again for the responses. :)

The flaming is kind of what I wanted to try and negate, but I would be happy to see those interviews if you could post a link please? I am still fairly new to the forums, signed up a while back but didn't start participating until recently. Maybe reading them will help me understand what you mean.

I think it was one of the FFXIV interviews, the DEVs talk about how the Like button is the only way they can offset how rapidly people post about things they dislike and how seldom people post when they do (for fear of being flamed.) The Like button effectively offsets it because you can see how many people actually agree with a single positive post (a positive post may have 50 likes while there are like 15 really negative posts) -- this lets you know that sure, there are issues worth address, but there are also people who are satisfied.

The dislike button won't stop people from posting about things they dislike, because that negativity and anger will drive them to pressure the issue no matter what, so the dislike button would just skew the numbers in the favor of the negative sides.

Sorry about referencing the interviews, I forgot they are for FFXIV (same forum structure, though, so same basic principle) so you might not have seen them.

I would like to see neither Like nor Dislike button(s).

I just can't see them useful.
But that's me. ^^

Sorry but i do not agree with the suggestion. A like button is even stretching it, but Dislike would just be asking for abuse.

The road to hell is paved with the best intentions. frankly put, you may picture it being useful, but in reality you'll have people running around rating down anyone they don't like regardless of the content of their posts. People are petty and stupid, and it would be abused.

In short, use the report button, it can easily be abused but its at least less easily done so.

Thank you that information does help a lot. It changes my perspective on the matter. SE is also right, because I don't respond to some of the threads I would like to due to all the negativity. However, I do use the like button on the posts I think have merit within those threads.

Dear SE,

I want to be a bigger jeark to people on the forums. (Can I have it?)

You only have to look at Allakhazam's forum to see how bad an idea that would be. That high-school mentality does not need to be brought here.

What about instead of a dislike button, more of an "ignore thread" button. There are so many troll threads on here that could just be ignored and a button that would just stop them from showing up when you click the "new posts" button would be really nice. My 2 cents.

I don't want to be a jerk to anyone actually and never made such a post anywhere on this forum or any other. I am sorry if it came across that way. I probably wouldn't even use the button myself. I just thought it would be more polite than people constantly bashing each other for having an idea.

Sorry I haven't been to high school in several years, nor Allakhazam's forums. In fact, I typically do not hang out in forums, only came on these cause they are specifically for the game I play and I was told they had a lot of good info. It has been pointed out why it wasn't a good idea and I readily accept that. I really was just trying to help.

I would like to say that is a neat idea but the last time I shared my 2 gil it kinda blew up in my face, so doubtful I'll bother again. It really isn't worth the effort to try and think of something to improve...well anything at all here really. I love the game, so I'll spend my time enjoying it from now on. I'll read the posts from SE about updates, but other than that I see no point in this site anymore. Thanks for the response though. :)

Wasn't calling this a troll thread fyi. I like the suggestion. I hope it didn't come across that way lol. Now that I read it again, it does a little.

I am sorry, I also liked your suggestion. I was a little frustrated last night *mix of issues IRL and then being called a jerk*, because (even though its not a such a good idea after all) I had an idea that I thought might help keep people from bashing each other so much. I actually will contiue to share my ideas, as should you and anyone else who has one. I just wish people would learn to be nicer to each other or not bother to respond. In retrospect, after one of the responders to my OP left me a link I did go read the link and it was a good reason not to implement the idea. I'm cool with that, after all it was just a thought.
