Dear SE

Recently one of my friends decided that instead of pursuing an Nirvana, he would like to change the weapon he wanted to develop for a Mythic Weapon.

He tried to see if anything would needed to be done again, like Assaults or Alexandrite. If he were to change his mind and pursue another weapon, he didn't want his progress (especially the 12M+ in gil) to go away.

After looking at various forum threads/wiki we were unable to find an answer. So my question is: would trading a different weapon to Abuhquah in WG result in my friend losing all Assault Progress, and any Alexandrite turned in previously?

I don't know much about mythic weapons..but I remember some things you don't have to repeat like killing the 3 kings for title.
...but your point was what if you payed a certain percentage already in alexandrite. Well, the trouble I think to getting a refund is the same for all the system requiring points(think merit, campaign, and whatnot). If players were to get refund for point items, they simply begging a switching game. Oh I don't want my myhic sword today, I'll refund everything and just use a staff and vice versa.

The end result is players just not doing anything like mythic or relic if they could simply "switch it over".

He means mid-progress. Like if you are upto the stage 3 relic katana but decide to go for the h2h.

Although I don't know the answer to it. I am guessing he would lose it all? Could potentially ask a GM under item recovery to recover the lost Alex and cancel the current progress?

I am fairly sure the Gamemasters can not help with this kind of things, and that progress in such quests can not be altered.
If the item recovery could be used for this kind of things, they would need to be doing it a lot for a large number of players who are requesting such things due to a change of mind, or whatever.

As far as I know, they have that ability to recover items that were lost due to a game- or user-error, or if the account was stolen and items were lost this way and even in those cases, the number of times they can do this is limited, expect for the cases where items were lost due to a game-error.

It is not for players to be able to re-set quests or return items already used for them.

I can't really point to anything other official right now, so this is obviously just how I see it.
Perhaps we will get an official response soon'ish. ^^
