Since my old Logitech RumblePad 2 was getting a little long in the tooth I thought I'd try to use my Xbox 360 USB controller with FFXI since it works so well in FFXIV.

Unfortunately FFXI configuration isn't recognizing the 360 pad's left and right triggers as buttons. I've looked online and found this is an old problem and there has yet to be a reliable workaround. I'm hoping the devs look into this as finding decent PS2 style USB controllers that work well with FFXI is getting more difficult.

Please look into this so we can use the Xbox 360 USB controller properly. It really is the best one on the market, and by far the most accessible.

Thank you!

Forgot to clarify this is for the PC version of the game.

Yeah the trigger buttons are considered another axis so they won't work with the default xbox360 driver.

In order to get it to work you're going to have to install a 3rd party driver for it.

Google "XBCD" and it should work for FFXI. If you're using Vista you'll probably have to go through some bullcrap to get the driver to install.

EDIT: There was another post about this a while back, maybe it'll provide you with some information.

http://www.katch.ne.jp/~morii/driver/x360c/index.html

this website has drivers posted for the wireless and wired controllers. its a little tricky setting them up, but they work perfect once you get em going. If you don't speak JP, try using google chrome for auto translate.

It's because the left and right triggers are actually sliders and FFXI won't recognize them as buttons. As stated above you can use the XBCD driver, but this will also disable xinput which some modern games require for controllers. The ideal solution would be for SE to change FFXI so that it can recognize sliders as buttons.

Only applies to 64-bit Vista and Windows 7. The driver isn't signed so you have to hit F8 at bootup and select the option to disable driver signing enforcement. 32-bit Windows will use unsigned drivers with no problems.

IDK about 32bit, but the f8 thing doesnt work. The only method I got to work, after a week of messing with it, is to put windows into 'test mode' and sign my own driver.

EDIT: actually now that I think about it, the f8 thing works but you have to do it every time you turn on your computer, which isn't acceptable to me.
